I started getting A's in math during high school. That's pretty sad when elementary and middle haven't taught me SHIT. I looooved spelling though. Apparently I taught myself how to read by age 2 or 3?

Business Calculus right now is focused on pre-algebra and algebraic skills. Pretty much a review though I honestly don't know what I'm doing anymore (Statistics has fried my brain so much).

For-Chan Cookie 09-09-2009 08:10 AM

I never got help for my homework. My mom would have been useless at if and my dad wasn't around a lot since he worked off shore on oil rigs. I remember calling my grandfather once to ask about military time XD I hate math. I'm so bad at it. The simple stuff is fine. If you start throwing in letters and functions and formulas, I just can't do it x_x

white2fire 09-09-2009 08:12 AM

I love to read and write. But spelling was a bad subject. It was along the lines of even though I studied I just couldn't get some words right. Most of them had to do with the spelling laws. You know the basics. Apparently I could never get those straight cause there was so many exceptions my brain couldn't get it. >_> Oh well, at least I'm not entirely illiterate. ^_^

Marguerite Blakeney 09-09-2009 08:20 AM

What spelling laws? Do you mean "i before e except after c" kind of law?

Yeah my mommy never really wanted to help me on my homework. She hired my cousin as a tutor for a day and honestly, that really didn't help at all.

white2fire 09-09-2009 08:24 AM

@Mar-Mar: yeah, those laws. there were a few other but I don't remember them. >.<
I actually needed a tutor for Physics. First one didn't work cause it was awkward....Second one helped a lot. I was able to pass the class w/a C. I was failing in the actual class, but with the tutor, I was able to get an A on the final (we weren't' supposed to have). So I thankfully passed the class. :)

Marguerite Blakeney 09-09-2009 08:33 AM

Wait, you weren't supposed to have a tutor?

GAH I hated physics class. I passed with a C.

white2fire 09-09-2009 08:39 AM

Well, I usually don't need a tutor. But the teacher wasn't that great and everyone was doing bad. It was even worse cause we had the one smart person who complained that she got a B on her test. I was like be lucky you have that cause everyone else was practically failing. >_> There was only one person worse than me and sometimes even he got a better grade than I did.
Goes to show how great that school was.

Marguerite Blakeney 09-09-2009 08:41 AM

Geez, yeah that's bad.

For-Chan Cookie 09-09-2009 08:44 AM

Be back in a bit, the computer keeps bugging me to restart. -_-

white2fire 09-09-2009 08:45 AM

@Mar: Yep. ^_^
That school wasn't the best education either cause we kept on changing teachers constantly. It's a private school that had the high school part have one teacher for each subject, and classes were combined. >_> We had one English, two Bible and Science (same), one for Math and only a couple others. And there was the case of teachers getting pregnant and such, so as the years went by many left and many came. We were lucky we even had teachers for some subjects. >_>
Bad school, Although as I'm keeping up with a few friends that still go there it's apparently getting better. XD

@Cookie: lol see you. ^_^

Marguerite Blakeney 09-09-2009 08:50 AM

At least you've got friends, but wow, that much change in a private school? That's usually unheard of, isn't it?

white2fire 09-09-2009 08:55 AM

Well, it's got 100 kids, kindergarten - 12th grade. Now it's about 50 since the economy is crap. It's tiny I had 7 kids(including me) in my graduating class. And I'm one of the lucky ones since sometimes it's only one or two kids in a class. >_>
Small school, doesn't get a lot of publicity.

Marguerite Blakeney 09-09-2009 09:08 AM

But it's accredited at least, right?

For-Chan Cookie 09-09-2009 09:09 AM

Back!

Private schools can kinda hire whoever they want. You don't need the same credentials that you'd have at a public school, so saying that a private education is better is a bit of a myth.

white2fire 09-09-2009 09:13 AM

Welcome back!

So that's what Mar was asking about. >_> Thanks Cookie.

Yeah private education is not all that its cracked up to be. But I did have a great English teacher. So it wasn't too bad. She actually taught us what to expect in college. So not everything was bad, just most things. XD

For-Chan Cookie 09-09-2009 09:15 AM

Thanks. ^_^

I dunno, I wouldn't say that teaching people what to expect is the best way to go about teaching children. It's better to give them the basics, so they're prepared for what's ahead and will be able to tackle it because they have the tools necessary to conquer the challenge.

Marguerite Blakeney 09-09-2009 09:18 AM

At least there's a positive.

Welcome back Cookie!

For-Chan Cookie 09-09-2009 09:19 AM

Thank you Mar-Mar

white2fire 09-09-2009 09:20 AM

Well, in elementary we were given basics day in and day out about grammar. She gave us basics for writing actual papers. And we wrote a lot in her class. >_> But she was nice, and the actual doing part was better than just telling us what was what.

And yeah a few of our teachers didn't have degrees or something and were only able to get jobs at this place cause we were desperate.

Marguerite Blakeney 09-09-2009 09:21 AM

So how come you didn't go to public school?

white2fire 09-09-2009 09:26 AM

Well, I started off in that school and by the time I thought about going to public I was only 2 grades away from graduating. Not a good time to switch schools. That and you had to get up earlier. We didn't start until 8:30. Public schools in my area started around 7 or so. So I decided to go through with it and had a good set of friends as well. I got my culture shock in college. Although it wasn't too much of a shock as a lot of people would have expected from me. I kinda fit right in, although I was mostly a wallflower and not much of a fan of the party scene.

Marguerite Blakeney 09-09-2009 09:33 AM

I'm not a partygoing girl either. Last weekend's college escapades scarred me for life. I was planning on attending Vegas Night this Saturday with some friends but highly decided against it. I mean I was gonna bring my telescope so my friends and I could look at planets and stuff while we were at school, but I just don't wanna go waste my time when I could be doing something better. Meaning I really have to do homework.

SUPER WALLFLOWERS UNITE!

white2fire 09-09-2009 09:37 AM

Wow, that bad huh. The telescope thing sounds fun but homework does need to get done. XD
Yeah, I was able to avoid the partying for the most part. I already knew about that part since my parents used to have lots of parties with lots of alcohol. XD Some at their friends houses. They brought us along cause no babysitter and we found stuff to do anyways. So I know how to avoid the bad ones at least. I was able to find a few friends who had parties but didn't push alcohol if you didn't want it.

Knitted Doll 09-09-2009 09:40 AM

Eek, I'm off to uni at the end of the month o.o I was just looking at the freshers week stuff; there's a different pub crawl every night, and sometimes more then one that I want to go on ;___;

What happened last weekend to put you off?

The private schools over here in the UK are generally much better then state schools, partly because they filter out the people who can't afford them xD

For-Chan Cookie 09-09-2009 09:41 AM

I don't drink or party or anything! Woo hoo! I'm super boring! *boogies*
