@ Jonesy: ahh.. *sighsmile* thank you! :hug:

My daughter's teacher sent homework home over Christmas break. I sent it back with a very polite note that my children do NOT do homework during vacations, weekends, or other family times.
I figure four days a week (for third graders) is more than sufficient.

@Castella, yep sewing, but I have to do the theory work, I have to do a research project on a designer and start the design part of my garment that I'm making when I go back to school, the design part is developing a design brief, material testing, design sketches, selection of material, evaluation, production plan, inspiration board stuff like that, basically I have to finish my design brief and come up with some sketches for now.

@ Castella: Yes, in a round about way. She graded it an "F". I told my daughter not to worry about it. Its not like third grade transcripts will decide my children's future. And if the world gets so bad that it would, I'll buy an island or something.

@Jonesy, its takes forever but we do parts of it at a time, *nods*. Last year people in year twelve had two A3 sized portfolios for the design part of their garment.

@Textless: Wow....that's really cool! And this is for high school? So...is this a technical class that's offered then? Or is it more along the lines of home economics? And, just curious...are you planning on pursuing this further? In college? Or a specialty school?

@Sinister: Wow...that's terrible. Some teachers just have no sense...at all. It's like they forget what it's like being a kid. I hope I never become that way. -_-; I like the idea of buying an island though...maybe you should go ahead and buy one...even if the world doesn't hit the fan. Just for kicks. ^_~

@Jonesy: Sewing classes...wow....never had anything like that. We did have some technical classes at my high school, but I don't remember a sewing one being offered. Wish they had...I might've been interested...

@Tegan: woah!!~~ thats intense!!
i remember i was kinda like that trying to sew a costume to a convention i went to... but i ended up finishing the project the night of the thing and just barely finishing too! (up till 1 woooo~)

@Star: really? well it might have been offered as a "home economics coarse" or something along those lines around my area its normally included with cooking.... >.> i hate cooking..

@ Castella: Ya know what, I just might ;)

I had sewing class back in the day. We also learned such necessary skills as homemade pie crust, tuna casserole, diapering, feeding, burping, and household first aid. :roll: It was called "Home Ec".

@Jonesy: Yeah, home economics was a cooking course for us. I wanted to get in that so I could eat food (and because I needed to learn how to cook...still do, actually)...but yeah, our technical track offered veeeery little. And now (and this makes me want to spit fire)....our state has gotten rid of the technical track completely. Everyone has to go to high school and prepare for university whether they plan to pursue higher education or not. It's ridiculous. But that's Tennessee for you. -_-;

And I have to say...I can't believe your teacher said that...about dropping sports so there'd be time for homework. I'm not saying that the athletes shouldn't do their homework, but some people can't give up their extra-curricular activities...there are some people who are actually trying to make a career out of that. Ugh...that sort of stuff makes me so angry...

@Tegan: Ouch, but i guess it would probably help you in the long run though!
and probably create a better/nicer garment in the end!! ^.^

@Star: Yeppers she said that.... and being a figure skating takes up like 2 hours almost everyday of the week too =.= so its hard fitting in that much homework... >.> i'm glad i don't have to deal with her again!!

Having sewing classes is a good way to maybe even doing some tailoring as a side job for extra money.
