Yea, but I always run into the problem of what to write, xD; I think pretty differently from most people, so what I find interesting others may find boring or confusing.

Oh dear. A lot of stuff. I usually write based off of ideas that come around from stuff that I hear or dreams that I have. They tend to be very.... far apart usually. I need to go pull out my creative writing books when I get back from Montreal and look at writing styles too, XD; I've been reading stuff like Hemingway lately, so my brain is in a weird setting.

@zazabar: I think that's a great way to start writing. You could post a sample or something in the Lit forum and get feedback... if you wanted Mene's feedback. I'm no expert on literature, but I've read in a lot of different genres and would love to read something you wrote. :)

Yea, I've been taking peeks at the literary forums, they look pretty nice down there, =]. I'm thinking of doing some sort of story revolving around a young man who has yet to learn to enjoy life because of how serious he has always been, and how he learns to let loose and enjoy himself while traveling. Not sure if I can make that entertaining though, XD;

@zazabar: It's worked for hundreds of other stories, so why not give it a try? These days I think a lot depends on character development.

That is another thing. The perfectionist in me hates the fact that it is so hard to be original. It drives me up the wall, xD;

Ooh, that's a toughie. Perfectionism is rampant among graduate students. I'm having trouble these days simply opening a document, as I know it's going to be a "shitty first draft" and I hate having those cluttering up my computer. I don't fear the draft itself, but the random file sitting around.

Yeah, I can see how that might be annoying. My mind is pretty fresh on older stories lately though. I had two literature classes last semester where what we read was 90% stuff that was written before 1960. So I need to read some modern literature that isn't Harry Potter to see how writing styles have evolved.

*snicker* "modern literature that isn't Harry Potter" :rofl: Just avoid Twilight -- though that style is undoubtedly popular these days. *giggle uncontrollably*

Hm, I haven't actually read a lot of recent fiction, mostly nonfiction in my area.

The last somewhat modern piece of literature that I have read by choice outside of Harry Potter was Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. And that was a few years ago. Since then, I haven't really read much because of how much science literature I have to read for my career.

And yea, I'm avoiding Twilight with a 500 foot pole, haha.
