Here's the onigiri I made :D I have an onigiri shaper, so that's why they're such a nice shape.

@Jake - Ah, I'm not feeling too hot tonight. I went to lay down rather early. I'm up now, but still rather blah.

adella_demona 07-24-2010 10:23 AM

Oh my gosh they're so cute <3 (even tho they're plain. lol.)
I wish I had a shaper. I have to stick with my hands or a measuring cup. lol. Last time I made them I did it with my hands and they wouldnt stick together. Kinda upsetting. I think maybe I didn't boil the rice long enough. Or maybe had them too wet or didn't squeeze it tight enough. I know the rice was real hot though.

dragonjake 07-24-2010 10:26 AM

Cookie: its a flower ^_^
Adella: i love using my hands to cook, its fun when you have to squidge things togather like when making burgers

For-Chan Cookie 07-24-2010 10:28 AM

@Jake - Yep :D

@Adella - I live in Louisiana! So I've got the same problem. Even out local Asian markets don't carry Japanese ingredients. It's all Koroean mainly. *sighs* I have to order a new bottle of tonkatsu sauce online.

I love mochi ice cream! Mochi in general is very yummy, though I've only ever had sweet mochi. It's got this chewy, pillowy marshmallow sort of texture and wrapped around ice cream. Oh man, so yummy. Red bean mochi ice cream is one of my favorites. One of the Japanese places here serves it, but they charge a lot for it. =/

I've been to a few hibachi grills. They're pretty good. They're fun to watch if you have a good chef anyway. The food is just a glorified stir fry though. I think you go more for the show and the socializing than the food.

If you can get your hands on a bottle of tonkatsu sauce, I'd recommend making katsu (chicken or pork is the norm) because is's pretty easy and delicious. Okonomiyaki as well, but only if you like cabbage, if you don't skip that.

I think I want to try to make some croquettes next.

adella_demona 07-24-2010 10:29 AM

lol. You're funny Jake ^_^
I'm squeamish when it comes to ground beef for some reason. lol.

I'm going to have to wait til everyone is up to mess up the kitchen. It's nearly 5:30 here. I've decided I'm going to make some tuna Onigiri with mayo, pickle relish, salt, pepper, and maybe some finely diced onions. I wish I had scallions.

*sighs* I need a job. Sometimes I tire of being a student.

dragonjake 07-24-2010 10:30 AM

Cookie: your a genius
Adella: thank you
im not, i love squishing things like beef and chicken :lol:

For-Chan Cookie 07-24-2010 10:33 AM

I'm bad, I'll cook in the kitchen at all hours of the night. I always get complaints about cooking at three in the morning ^_^;;

Nobody's home now though. I might make some crepe batter :drool:

Am I Jake? Thank you.

adella_demona 07-24-2010 10:33 AM

OMG! What part of Louisiana? I'm about an hour and a half, maybe two hours if there's heavy traffic, from New Orleans. lol. Real close to the state line. If I wanted a daiquiri all I have to do is get my dad to go about 10, maybe 15 miles down the road. lol. (I'm not 21 yet. Shhhhh!)

I'll have to look for some Mochi Ice cream. I'll definitely keep an eye out for it.

And I love cabbage. love love love it. Smells nasty when it's cooking but I think it's tasty.

*writes stuff down*
I heard that sauce was similar to Worcestershire sauce.

I'd go cook again, I cooked the rolled eggs at 3 am, but I'd make a lot of racket.

dragonjake 07-24-2010 10:35 AM

Cookie:you sure are :)

For-Chan Cookie 07-24-2010 10:39 AM

I'm in Lafayette. I'm two hours north of New Orleans :D My friend says there's a Japanese place there that also has a small Japanese grocer attached, but I've never been to it. I really should go visit and make her take me!

Tonkatsu sauce definitely has a Worcestershire sauce sort of taste. It's very strong and if you look online most recipes that you'll find for tonkatsu have Worcestershire sauce in it. But Tonkatsu is a sauce made with lots of fruits, so I've found the recipes just don't hit the mark.

I love cabbage as well. That's why I really like okonomiyaki. When you're frying it up, the cabbage keeps a nice crunchy texture, unlike when you eat it in corned beef and cabbage. And there's not much of a small when you fry your okonomiyaki. :D

adella_demona 07-24-2010 10:43 AM

Oh wow. you're really not far away from me then. lol. You should totally go to the French Quarter Fest next year. I'm hoping to be there again. I love the square ^_^. We could catch a bite to eat and tromp around the market ^_^ There's several Chinese and Japanese buffets not far from the Quarter. And some merchants are actually Japanese. Quite interesting people you meet down there.

I swear I'm not a creep ^_^
Just excited someone not so far away has the same interests as meee *squee*

And I'm seriously writing all these down and googling them. lol.

For-Chan Cookie 07-24-2010 10:46 AM

Oh man. We just missed Mechacon! It used to be held here in Lafayette, but they've switched locations to New Orleans and it was last week. That would have been a perfect place to meet. Ah well, maybe next year.

That would be cool. I really need to get out of the house soon. I'll go craaazy. ^_^;; And I haven't seen my friend in a while. We're both too alike, hermits.

adella_demona 07-24-2010 10:50 AM

I have never been to any Conventions. Just like concerts. Never. lol. There's Louisianime...then one in Biloxi...and the Mechacon that sooo many of my friends went to...I just never have the money or the means or the time to get to one. That totally woulda been perfect though.

*sighs* I'm such a Hermit too. I rarely talk to my friends IRL. My phone is dead 5 days out of the week...but that's because my charger is screwed. lol. I need a life V__V;

I know the French Quarter Fest is in April...I wanted to go this year but I didn't have the money. Definitely might next year :D

For-Chan Cookie 07-24-2010 10:53 AM

I've been to quite a few conventions. They're fun. Although, mostly I just go shopping at them :rofl: Of course there's panels an other stuff, but usually I shop. The last time I went to Mechacon, that's all I did, blow money in the dealer's room, take a few pictures of cosplayers, then leave.

Hermits unite! All of my friends live somewhere else! The closest ones are in New Orleans. I have some in California that I lived with for a while, but that didn't pan out. I still talk to one of them. I miss living there. It was really nice and I loved Japan Town!

adella_demona 07-24-2010 10:57 AM

lol. I mostly have "new" friends I met in college. I don't really have many old HS friends that still talk to me. They've all went down their paths...two have kids...two are married...one turned to drugs and alcohol. And I went to college. lol. As an art student, nonetheless.

Met some cool peeps there. One is learning Korean and Japanese. I think she might be a little over ambitious. Our school doesnt offer those language classes. Just spanish -_-;

that girl introduced me to j-rock/pop and k-pop. ^_^

dragonjake 07-24-2010 10:57 AM

are you two on MSN?

adella_demona 07-24-2010 10:59 AM

No, but I have Yahoo, Jake. Can't people on MSN talk to people on Yahoo?

For-Chan Cookie 07-24-2010 11:00 AM

I don't do MSN. ^_^;

@Adella - I went to an international high school in Scotland! I don't see any of those people, though one recently friende dme on Facebook. She's married and living in Texas.

Most of my friends are either from college or the internet. Though I still talk to some of my old middle school friends from before we moved to Scotland.

adella_demona 07-24-2010 11:03 AM

Waaaah! Really? That's awesome! I've never been out of the South. Never left the country. Furthest north I've been is Oxford, MS.
Furthest West was where I was born in Texas. Galveston doesnt count too much. lol. And I visited Florida for vacation.

I might be going to Tennessee for a couple days the week before Christmas with my Fiance to visit his sister, but that's a big maybe.

dragonjake 07-24-2010 11:04 AM

Adella: i have no clue, but if you want to try my email is [email protected]

adella_demona 07-24-2010 11:04 AM

lol. [email protected]
XD

For-Chan Cookie 07-24-2010 11:05 AM

My parents are both from Rhode Island, so every summer, we'd take a road trip up there! We've done a looooooot of driving across the US! We also took a road trip to California when I was young and went to Disneyland. I did the Walt Disney World College Program too, so I lived in Florida and worked at Walt Disney World in the Magic Kingdom. I worked in Pinnochio's Village Haus making hamburgers and fries ^_^;;

I really don't get the whole msn thing. If we're all on Mene, why not talk on Mene and earn gold for it? The only thing I've seen come out of MSN conversations is people talking about other people behind their backs. Not cool, so I don't even bother.

dragonjake 07-24-2010 11:06 AM

i have done it Adella ^_^

adella_demona 07-24-2010 11:07 AM

Wow. That sounds like a wonderful experience. I think I'd love to work at Disney World.
I'm stuck in MS though. lol. I still can't drive and I'm 19, which is more common than you'd think. Katrina threw me off balance a little (in the head. I'm crazy apparently. PTSD)..and I never got to the point of getting my permit. I was 14...almost 15.

Still need to. Kinda have a paranoia about wrecking *nervous*

It works, Jake, but this PC isn't friendly with multiple programs. I want my computer fixed T_T
