I tend to stick with monks and fighters in 3.5. My partner has a monk character he'd like to try out but my very first game of D&D the DM ended up using an item to turn my monk into a cat-girl type. I was not pleased.

Hello to you two!

My favorite classes include the Beguiler, Wizard, and Sorcerer (in 3.5), and the Warlock, Swordmage and Bard (in 4th edition).

I don't mind branching out at all, though, and have played many, many classes.

Well it's really hard to find a good dungeon master these days and hard to find anyone who really plays and enjoys a good long session of dungeons and dragons. Most people I know don't have the patience to sit through a good long four to six hour session. How long do your sessions usually last?

@Scribbled Lore ~ You play Dungeons and Dragons too?! Awesome!! My friend and I both play a lot-- usually once a week if not more. He plays monks and fighters too, he doesn't care so much for spell caster classes.

Hi there, Locke! *waves* :)

I simply don't have a lot of experience with spell casters of any sort when it comes to D&D and I tend to stick with what I know, so. That's why I end up playing monks and fighters so often.

I don't mind long sessions but the eight hour ones boggle my mind! By that point I want a serious nap.

KiwiRose 09-08-2010 08:45 PM

@Kole We have two games every Sunday, the first is 6 /2 hours long, the second is at least 5 1/2 hours long. All times subject to change, obviously. Last Sunday the second group played for 7 1/2 hours because the first group couldn't get together that morning.

We occasionally like to play extra games, and one-shot adventures too.

Hope you are doing well, monks and fighters are definitely fun to play, then again it also depends on who all you have in the group and what they are playing as. I have a new character I just created which was an elven paladin which is an interesting creation according to my dungeon master lol. seven hours or eight hours is the maximum I want to play, ten I need a serious nap as well.

@Kiwi Rose ~ Two different games in one day?! Wow, I think I would probably fall asleep in the middle of the second adventure. One shot adventures would not be as fun, maybe they would but I would like to continue something that I invest a lot of time in. You guys are dedicated as eight of us played for six months solid every week, but then people began slacking about showing up to sessions but it lasted for almost two years.

CZ and I, along with a friend, are doing a D&D 3.5 based game here on Menewsha where CZ is playing an elven monk and I'm playing a human paladin. I was frustrated I wasn't able to find the type of god I wanted for my paladin but she seems happy enough with the typical god of paladins.

KiwiRose 09-14-2010 07:48 PM

Yeah, we managed to find a group of addicts. Most of our groups are a little on the large side, so if one or two people did get get bored, we'd still have a decent-size party.

-pops into thread- Hello, everbody! -notices newcomers- OOH! FELLOW GEEKS!!!!! ^-^ HAI!!!!!! -waves enthusiastically-

Scribbled Lore 09-14-2010 11:05 PM

Hi there, Cadone! *waves*

So do any of you play with the D&D minis?

KiwiRose 09-15-2010 07:47 PM

We use minis for combat. I personally prefer to buy Reaper brand Minis to use for my characters, but other than that, we use the D&D brand for everything else.

Scribbled Lore 09-15-2010 09:46 PM

What's the difference between Reaper and D&D brands?

Kole_Locke 09-16-2010 04:36 PM

Speaking of which I need to get some minis for my Dungeons and Draongs sessions. We use paper machettes which is kind of cool but nothing like the nice pewter or hard plastic minitures that you don't constantly have to continuously fold up. We use a map for combat as well.

Scribbled Lore 09-16-2010 10:52 PM

Isn't it difficult to find a miniature to represent the character image you have in your head? Like finding a red haired female paladin.

KiwiRose 09-21-2010 05:28 PM

D&D brand are specifically designed to match D&D monsters and races. Reaper is more generic fantasy, with it's own game, bu the minis rock.

Google it, I'll bet you love them.

Scribbled Lore 09-21-2010 08:32 PM

*does just that*

KiwiRose 09-21-2010 08:56 PM

Most reapers come un-painted, but if you browse long enough, you can find painted ones.

If you want to browse miniatures from several companies, try RPG Shop & Board Game Store

Scribbled Lore 09-22-2010 12:10 AM

I think that if I could find a female paladin carrying a warhammer then I wouldn't mind if it was unpainted or not. I might even prefer an unpainted version!

KiwiRose 09-22-2010 01:23 AM

I'll keep my eyes open for you. I'm ALWAYS browsing miniatures. What race?

Scribbled Lore 09-22-2010 02:36 AM

Human. Telema is a human paladin. I hope that makes it easier rather than harder to find. I definitely appreciate you keeping an eye out for me.

I saw the map packs in the store that you linked to and I think I may be lusting after them.

KiwiRose 09-22-2010 02:45 AM

I know... I lust after SOOOO many things on that site.

Damn, so far, tons and tons of female Paladins and Knights, but they all have swords. Grr...

Scribbled Lore 09-22-2010 04:11 PM

I know, right? It's like no one carries warhammers or maces anymore. What's up with that?

KiwiRose 09-23-2010 02:49 AM

I saw a few with maces, I think. I'll double-check and get back to you.

There's a kit, too, with weapons you can use to replace the ones that come with your miniature. Probably has hammers on it.

Scribbled Lore 09-23-2010 02:26 PM

Oooh, see, now I didn't think that the weapons could be removed from the miniatures.

KiwiRose 09-23-2010 05:35 PM

Yup! Most the minis are made of pewter, so they can be modified.

Scribbled Lore 09-23-2010 09:50 PM

That's really cool. So maybe I could pick up one of the weapon kits and a paladin/knight that I like and just switch out for the warhammer. Hm..

Of course, this is all dependent on me having a reason to pick up some minis. Right now all my games are online. We're not doing anything face to face at the moment.
