Bri I can't afford to go see a doctor. I have no insurance.
I don't tan either I burn. I don't have long hair. I keep it very short. |
That sucks so much! I'm sorry. I really hope you get better. :< I'll pray for you even though I'm not sure how much I believe in god.
I used to have long hair, but I cut it just below my ears recently and I'm thinking I'll keep it that way forever. :3 I tan because of my Spanish heritage, but I'm never outside long enough. |
I have an even shorter cut then that Bri. When I was growing up I had hair down to the middle of my back.
|
Ooh, really? I've always wanted really short hair, but the only time I ever tried it came out as a longish bob (I did it myself. orz).
|
I go to have my hair done. I am in need of a cut. It's to long for me. When I can brush it back and have it stay that way it's time for a cut.
|
I actually adore long hair on both males and females. I used to have long (ie past my shoulders long) hair for... about ever and a day. But around August I was feeling really depressed and self destructive. I started rummaging through my desk drawer to find something to cut myself with, but instead I found scissors first... so I cut off ALL of my hair and then shaved it bald with one of your standard gillette doohickeys. It was a price to pay, a pennance, to lose my hair. Thankfully aside from my own jokes never got accosted in any serious manner for being a neo-nazi or anything -_-;
|
Well at least it was scissors and hair rather then a blade and cutting. Hair will grow back eventually.

Hi! XD
My name's BloodyLuciel or Luciel for short I've never thought what gender i really am since i know i'm straight. but sometimes i can't help think that maybe i'm a lesbian or bisexual because i act like a guy sometimes... and people constantly say it! i mean just me wearing a skirt and everyone makes a bug fuss about it saying things like i'm growing up and turning into a "dalaga" the tagalog word of Lady. but right now i know i'm androgynous, but i want to ask is that the same as androgynes? its the same right? i'm so confused right now, sorry for rambling... |
I would think that it might vary from person to person, Luciel. Some andros could be attracted to one side of the spectrum, the other, or neither.
|
What appeals to me personally about androgyny is being so "towards the middle of the spectrum" that people have to second-guess your gender. Ideally, they wouldn't be thinking about your gender at all and would be amazed by your knowedge, your skills, and your hobbies... just to be appreciated for who you are and not to feel 'outed' among certain circles due to the fact you happen to have XX or XY chromasomes.
What bothers me is where I hear guys yelling (and in the past beating) at their wives for "not giving them a SON" when it's the father that determines the gender by passing down the X or the Y. I remember having SONs was such a huge deal in ancient china and female babies were left by the roadside to die... |
Crow that bothers me as well. Females have always been seen as the weaker, more undesirable sex. There are very few instances through history of strong women. Though Joan of Arc was one of the most powerful women in history. As was Cleopatra. Though I would put Joan of Arc ahead of Cleopatra.
---------- I personally feel that women are the stronger sex. They have to go threw periods, giving birth, menopause. And no offense intended but I don't feel a man could handle some of the things we women go through. |
I do think in the most ancient of times women were more valuable though. I'm talking about caveman ish days, where they didn't understand biology and WOMEN were the ones to have BABIES, not men! So originally, that was why males were sent to battle because they were more dispensible but the 'magical baby having people' needed to be protected. I don't know specific tribe examples, but I do believe there were certian Native American/First Nations tribes that existed in a Matriarcal (Female-leadership/family based) model as opposed to the Patriarchy anyone with a western european mindset has been stuck with for the past few thousand years.
|
Crow that is very true. I know that the Jewish faith is a matriarchal faith. You hear a lot about Jewish mothers.

Luciel- Though I haven't read the graphic novel(s, yet), I've heard that in "The Crow" saga, one of them was a female. Plus the avatars on menewsha seem to be rather effeminate looking in general.
|
I'm most definitely a boy under this here dress!
For years I've battled with being myself, both online and offline; I've found my comfort zone, and proudly call myself me. I spent countless time online claiming to be a girl, seeing that as my only cop-out for having a female avatar, or a female RP character, for liking boys, or... what have you. I was the type of boy that had Barbies, was obsessed beyond words with The Wizard of Oz, Return to Oz, and The Wiz. And I still am. I had these black penny loafers that I used to wear around the house and call my ruby slippers! I'm very grateful for having a very supportive mother, and for having such a liberating childhood that I'm capable of knowing who I am, what I am in my eyes, and where I'm headed down this yellow brick road of life! I for one am quite glad to see a thread like this, and totally respect you and every single person in here. Hope the thread goes well, and I shall totally be popping in for a visit from time to time! If not on a regular basis. ;) ---------- And I'd have to say the overall effeminacy of the avatars here on Mene are a definite attraction for me. =3 |
I really must say that I am glad there is a place like this here on Mene.

This is a great thread, and I hope it goes well.
Sometimes I think it would be great to be of the "opposite sex" if there really is one... that is, there are times when I'd rather be a boy than a girl... especially with the stereotypes dominating everything and what not... Why should people judge others by how they dress or act or what gender they are? |
Quote:
You think that too? about girl turning to boy. i don't want to change my gender but sometimes i think "what if i was born a boy"or "what if you can turn into the opposite sex without ever doing surgery" things like that flash through my mind. |
Treating somone, especailly impressionable children, by way of the society's stereotypical gender roles is just doing them a dis-service. I teach a computer game design and lego robotics class and I swear I've never had more than 2 females per class out of a group that's circa twenty. However the ones who are there are just fine, and are often quick learners, effective at the battle games they play with their robots, etc. They have a great time and are there to learn the skills and have fun... it is just a shame that so many parents shy their little girls away from an environment where they learn the most basic of basic science concepts.

Parents can be so old fashioned sometimes, its hard to find parents or adults alike that are fine with their kids taking different interests and not judge them if they are manly or feminine. |

Also, this thread is awesome. I'm a big advocate for... well... how to put it? Gender, really. And more people need to be aware that sex and gender are not the same thing. The LGBT community is in the limelight right now, but people still leave out the 'T'. Frankly, I think it's because people are afraid of it. People don't know what to make of it. Gender and gender roles are so ingrained in our heads, we don't know what to do with ourselves when something different comes along. |
Talking: I've heard about this, but never seen it first-hand. People within the GLBT community leaving the T out because they feel as though with that, their sexual orientation is a choice. S: Maaaaan, always gotta be someone not nice in the group.
|
I still wish there wouldn't have to be a label stuck on someone for just trying to be themselves. I guess it might be helpful if you're in a supportive area to hop on the "LGBT" train for support and companionship... but really... I'd still like to point back to the most original of my points that people should still be respected for their skills and assets to the community, not because of what they like to do behind closed doors that has nothing to do with their jobs, or what 'parts' are in their pants...
By labelling, you're still creating and enforcing a divide between 'straight and falls in with society's gender roles' and yourself. I don't want to be labelled, damnit. In fact I can't even really say I have a SEXual orientation because I'm still a virgin. And as far as my gender identity, I believe I've gotten that across in my last few posts. I'm a person, who deserves respect, dignity, kindness and who plans to turn to treat my fellow race, the HUMAN race the same way. When you get 'help' or 'respect' by boxing yourself (ie affirmative action in education and employment), that's not true freedom, I say UPSET THE FRUIT BASKET! (reference to a children's game where everyone in their chairs has to find a new seat, and fast!) |
