Yes, it does make sense, don't worry. :3 You might want to elaborate the line "And sorry I could not travel both" and its meaning. But that's what you have written so far, and I've got no complaints. Never judge a work in progress. ^^

nemo.love_22 04-07-2010 09:30 PM

Oh, thanks! Yeah, I am just rushing to try to get a rough draft written and thanks!
Yeah, at least even if it does suck, I can get feedback from my peers tonight, I have about 2 1/2 pages written now, and It's only taken me about 20 minutes. Yay! :boogie:

Blood Savant 04-07-2010 09:31 PM

See? You're an ESSAY MACHINE! Essay machines deserve some caps-abuse. xD

You've produced so much sensible text in so little time! Kudos!!!

nemo.love_22 04-07-2010 09:34 PM

Hehe! Yay! All done, I think it helps that I'm really familiar with the poem. :)

Quote:

The Road Not Taken
There are times when one has to make a choice of what to do in their life. The roads of life are ones that can sometimes be hidden, or disguised from view. Not everyone will take the same roads. Most times one will take the road that seems the easiest, that’s not all ‘brush’ covered, or hidden from view by those metaphorical dark trees that make things look harder. Robert Frost’s poem The Road Not Taken helps to illustrate this point, of decision between these two roads that one must decide to take.
The persona is a traveler, who’s traveling down this road and reaches a fork in the road, where “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,/And sorry I could not travel both” (1-2). This traveler, must decide which direction he wants to go, as of course, being only one man, he cannot travel both. If he goes down one road, he has to stay on that road and cannot take the other one he chose not to take earlier. In a way, the traveler wishes that he can travel both of the roads, as you never know where one will take you and he’s interested in them both. But, he knows that this is a time where he has to choose one over the other, as once you go down one road there’s no coming back to take the other. “And be one traveler, long I stood/And looked down one as far as I could/To where it bent in the undergrowth;”(3-5). So as the traveler stands there, looking down the roads, one of them, he can’t see that far down, as it’s covered and hidden from view. He can’t see what is down that road, as it seems like it’s a less traveled road. No one has bothered to clear it for easy traveling in quite some time. Whereas when the traveler looks upon the other road it seems like a better one to travel, at first glance, “Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there/ Had word them really about the same.” (8-10). Other travelers had passed over this road previous, making it look more appealing.
It being early for this traveler, having gotten an early start on his day, he’s just standing there, looking down the roads, trying to decide, which way to take his life. “And both that morning equally lay/In leaves no step had trodden black.” (11-12). This is the persona’s first time to try this. No one has tainted these memories, or this time for him, and he’s trying from a fresh start. No one has stepped where he’s going to go, no matter which road he has taken. Fresh leaves are covering all those footprints of others traveling the roads of his life. As he’s just come to this part of his journey, it makes sense. Footprints can only be left where he has been, not where he hasn’t been yet. And these roads, are both places he’s yet to go. “Oh, I kept the first for another day!/Yet knowing how way leads on to way/I doubted I should ever come back.”(13-15). So this thought of going somewhere new is exciting to the traveler, yet he has realized that this is now the time that he must make the choice. He has to decide which road that he wants to travel down, as life rarely takes you back to places that you’ve never been before, as you’ve already experienced those things and made those choices.
So, with the time and knowing that he must make a choice, he decides and he realizes “I shall be telling this with a sigh/Somewhere ages and ages hence;” (16-17). At the time, the decision that he makes seems like the right one, but you never know where the other road would have lead and taken him. At the time, the decision that he made seemed like the correct one but seeing as it’s just the journey through life, he will never know where the road he chose not to travel down would have taken him. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I-/I took the one less traveled by;”(18-19). So, through his deciding and looking between the road that’s better traveled and the road that was less traveled and more covered in shadows and harder to see down, he chose the one that was less traveled, because in a way, that’s how life is. One never knows what’s going to happen, and it’s a mystery. “And that has made all the difference.” (20). And for the persona, this decision to take the less traveled road, had changed his life, and made him who he is, whether he realizes it or not.
It seems like, this is what most people face on a pretty common basis, having to decide which road that they want to take in their lives, and it’s a common issue that we can all relate to. Having the personal be a traveler just helps to enforce the point that everyone is a traveler in their own lives.

That's my whole essay, well rough draft. ^-^ And I have about a half hour before I have to go and print them out. :boogie: Once I get started, I really can't stop. It's just finding that focus to do it that I usually have issues with.

And with the right formatting that my professor wants that's about 3 1/2 pages of text.

Blood Savant 04-07-2010 09:37 PM

Well, I can tell there's no stopping you once the writing bug bites!!! Really good stuff. :3 I like it a lot. Very concrete and shows that you know your Frost. XD

nemo.love_22 04-07-2010 09:43 PM

Thanks a bunch dear! Yeah, there are times when I'll get 20+ pages of text written for stories with out even realizing it! I was doing my best to talk about the lines as much as I can, I'm sure I can write more, but I can do that later, after I get feedback. ^-^ Happy now that they're both done! ^-^ With time to spare. ^-^ Just getting ready to head out over here, have to go and print them up, and I'm considering packing up my laptop as well, and bringing it with me and doing some writing outside before class. ^-^

Blood Savant 04-07-2010 09:49 PM

I sometimes stray from writing outside the issue ... Say, the essay topic should be colonialization. I write that and then I stray to writing an additional chapter to a book. xD; I can write a lot once I'm inspired, but I'm not so sure about its quality. I never show my creative writing to anyone else, mainly because it's possible they don't understand it. I like to write minimalistic language and sometimes I use devices that people don't get. I like to write Palahniuk-ish stories. Gruesome in detail yet diabolically sharp. ^^

nemo.love_22 04-07-2010 09:52 PM

Oh, I sometimes stray from the topic as well, I know how that is. I've done that many many times.
I have issues sharing my work with others as well, in fear that they will judge me based on what I've written.

Blood Savant 04-07-2010 09:57 PM

Yeah, it's pretty scary to think people define you by a work of fiction you've written. :s And there's always the possibility that the message that you're trying to convey through your work is not figured out the way it should be. Over-analysis is some serious shiz! D:

And now that we've been talking about writing I can swear my bookshelf is staring down at me. If only reading books could be a profession ... </3

nemo.love_22 04-07-2010 09:59 PM

Oh, yeah, exactly! And sometimes you take something one way where as someone else will read it and take it totally differently.

Speaking of sharing works of fiction that we've written, this (link) is something that I'm willing to share, only because I'm actually pretty happy with it, for the most part.

Oh, I wish that I could have more books here with me! I have a book shelf in my room and it's crammed full of books! Books! How I want you!

Anyways, I have to get going, I have a half hour before my first class of the day, and I need to go and print off those essays before class (which I could do after class because I don't need them till 6:30, which is my second class today. :P

 Talk to you later Jules!

Blood Savant 04-07-2010 10:01 PM

I kind of hoard books whenever I go shopping. XD My friends might buy clothes and cosmetics, but I walk out of Blackwell's happily carrying new books. 8) Reading books has always been my refuge from reality. <3 I have plenty of books I have read and there are still a lot that I haven't read. I'm dying to get my hands on Ildefonso Falcones' Cathedral of the Sea. *drool*

nemo.love_22 04-07-2010 10:02 PM

I hoard books too! Expecially Horse Related books, an entire shelf on my book shelf at home is devoted to horse books and that's still not enough room.

Blood Savant 04-07-2010 10:03 PM

Alright, I'll see you later! Have a nice class. :3

nemo.love_22 04-07-2010 10:05 PM

Thanks! :glomp:

Talk to ya later! Bye!!
