TobiasRosetta 06-26-2010 05:38 AM

True that. *Nodnod* I haven't spoken to her in ages though, so it doesn't even matter. I hope she finds some way to be happy.

How've you been, then?

Vix Viral 06-26-2010 05:41 AM

So do I. We're friends on msn but don't really talk.

I'm alright, waiting for my hair to dry. We dyed it black for the first time ever!

TobiasRosetta 06-26-2010 05:48 AM

OOOOH! I love having black hair. I have to dye it often though. I'm naturally blond, but it looks like garbage on me so I keep it black. With blue streaks, atm. Do you like how it looks? What color is it normally?

Pearl 06-26-2010 12:31 PM

I usually prefer natural colours on people... either their original, or another naturally occurring colour.

I remember a craze for very black hair in school. I can't think of anyone it suited.

Vix Viral 06-26-2010 01:58 PM

My hair is naturally dark brown and looks almost black but it lightens up in the summer and that's when I don't like it.
We grabbed the most natural looking black dye they had because I don't want my hair look all dried out and disgusting when I spend so much time taking care of it. My mom has black hair so it looks good on me. I'll take pictures at some point today.

Pearl 06-26-2010 02:57 PM

I have dark brown hair, I'm guessing it's gone a bit lighter. I usually get one or two completely bleached white hairs in the summer.

A uni friend is visiting on Tuesday! Monday's my birthday. 19th.

Nice that England's having a bit of a heat-wave, though it's probably pretty tame by general American standards - 77F today.

Nolori 06-26-2010 03:55 PM

@Peral: We've been hitting 80+(F) degress on a daily basis for about a week here in Cali. It's actually been pretty tame for us as a summer, really. Last year we hit 100 a couple times.
And I hope you have fun when she gets there!

I am way too impatient to scared to dye my hair. I'm worried I'd mess up and turn it pink or something.

Vix Viral 06-26-2010 04:19 PM

Here in New England we hit 90-100 on a regular basis during the summer.

This was my first time having my hair dyed at home.

Nolori 06-26-2010 04:37 PM

Is it a nice dry heat over there? I can't imagine having 90-100 degree weather if it was humid. Euch.

You are indeed a brave soul to do it!

Vix Viral 06-26-2010 04:38 PM

It's always humid here.

It's not a big deal.

Ria 06-26-2010 04:42 PM

Woo more people have arrived! ^_^
I've been so busy this week I've hardly had time to sit on forums and say anything.
It's fantastic today though. All sunny and warm, looks like we're having a BBQ.

I've dyed my hair black myself a few times at uni. I make a lot of mess but it's worth it when I can't get to my hair dressers. :3
Speaking of which, I really need a hair cut...

I'm so excited, it's the last episode of this series of Doctor Who. I don't want it to be over, but I hate cliff hangers. D<

Pearl 06-26-2010 05:02 PM

@ Ria - GASP I completely forgot!

Will write a more detailed post afterwards!!

Nolori 06-26-2010 05:53 PM

@Viral: I guess it's all what you're used to. But man, I hate it when it gets humid. Though I guess if it was humid we wouldn't have fires so often. Hn.

@Ria: That'll be fun! I love BBQs. I never got into Doctor Who. I really feel like I should, though. It sounds great. If I did start watching is there any one generation I should start on? (Generation? Season? I'm not sure how it works with Doctor Who. I know there have been, what, ten doctors?)

EmiEmi 06-26-2010 06:16 PM

hihi everyone. ^^ What have I missed?

Nolori 06-26-2010 06:22 PM

@Emi: Hey there again! Let's see. Hair dye, heat waves and two entries? There's almost ten! I am excited for this.

Pearl 06-26-2010 06:59 PM

@ Nolori - well, it originally ran from 1963 (first broadcast day after the Kennedy assassination) to the 80s or 90s. It was revamped and given new life in 2005, and since then there have been 3 more Doctors. (We're on no 11).

Most fans nowadays probably never watched the originals, including myself. The effects right now are cheap, but the old ones are just completely laughable.

The 3 Doctors since 2005 have been Christopher Eccleston (he played the invisible man in Heroes, did 1 series), David Tennant (Barty Crouch Jr in Goblet of Fire, did 3 series) and Matt Smith (fresh face, comes from my uni, his first series finale just broadcast).

Because it has so many writers... well, each series is a mixed bag of episodes, but generally has one over-reaching arc which you'd miss if you watched them erratically.

Maybe begin with the 2005 series, the first of the modern Who.

Nolori 06-26-2010 07:22 PM

@Pearl: Oh okay! I was worried I'd have missed a lot of continuity since I didn't see any of the earlier stuff. So I'll see what I can hunt down on Netflix if I get the chance. It's a romantic, sci-fi comedy mostly, right?

Pearl 06-26-2010 07:29 PM

Yeah, each series is its own story.

Eh... I think traditionally it's an adventure, possibly drama (children's, family, whatever) show. The 'rom-com' aspect started to creep in from 2005. I mean, it's always been a bit silly at times, but it depends on the Doctor.

I prefer it when it's more a ripping yarn, a hero's story, a classic fairy-tale.

The best episode *ever* (says me and some magazine polls) is Blink, by Steven Moffat. Definitely watch that, even if you skip the series.

Socrates' Child 06-26-2010 07:36 PM

Oh, Doctor Who. I've only ever watched it sporadically (the new version that is, I have a hard time sitting through the older ones, even though they are regularly on my PBS channel...) It's quite entertaining. I liked the episode that may be called "Angels" I'm not entirely sure. It had angel statues that came to life and terrorized people... Which one was "Blink"?

Nolori 06-26-2010 07:56 PM

@Pearl: Really? I'd like that classic adventure stuff better than the romance, so this deffinately sounding more and more like something I should be watching.

@Socrates: I keep staring at your signature and I have to know. Do P. Diddy and Bjork actually have a duet together? The thought of this is making my brain try and implode on itself.

Socrates' Child 06-26-2010 08:00 PM

@ Nolori: Not that I know of. I can't help but think it would be a hilarious mash-up if they did...

Nolori 06-26-2010 08:04 PM

@Socrates: Wouldn't it be, though! I feel like this is something that should happen. Like, now.
Though to be fair P. Diddy DOES do a lot of duet/mash-ups/whatever. I'm not sure it'd be totally out of the question for him. xD

Pearl 06-26-2010 08:33 PM

@ Socrates - Blink was the Weeping Angels, yep. You probably could have guessed... "Don't blink. Don't turn away."

Maybe you could start with the latest series, Nolori, that just finished. The Doctor is quite interesting in this one.
Blink is excellent (also a bit scary, the best ones are a bit scary) but so is The Empty Child, which is the first of a 2-parter.
*Definitely* watch The Empty Child. The best family entertainment of the decade. Truly great. Be warned - if you were 6, you'd wet yourself. Doctor Who is traditionally a 'behind the sofa' kids show.

Cardinal Biggles 06-26-2010 08:53 PM

YAY! I loved that one :) (oh sorry, I'm Socrates too)

Lol. I have the world cup on, and my parents haven't seen it all this go around.
Them: What's that noise?
Me: Oh, those are the Vuvuzelas, a sort of plastic horn. They are the big thing at this year's world cup.
Them: -pause- Well stop it.

Nolori 06-26-2010 08:55 PM

@Cardinal: I heard people were using those things. Are they really annoying? I haven't actually sat through a whole game during this Cup. I should probably do that.

@Pearl: Hahaha, truly the best kind of telelvision!

Speaking of telelvision, has anyone watched Faulty Towers? My mom just finished watching the series and was really bummed it was over. I wanted to find something else for her, but didn't know of anything in the genre. (I know it's the same guy from Monty Python's Flying Circus, but she wasn't as interested.)
