I'm not actually sure what happened to Wessex xD
My knowledge ends there.
I look forward to reading it, Vix.

Ipswitch? Ipswich? I'm not sure how to spell that one either. She either lives there or someplace near there, but that's the name I remember. xD
I'm glad you're still working on it, Vix!

Ipswich! I pass Ipswich on the train going to university. It's like an hour outside London, and half the people on the train get off there. xD
I have no idea what it's like though.

The pictures she brought looked really pretty. Also there are apparently a lot of pink houses. xD

That makes me think of the movie "The Covenant" though I know it has nothing to do with the Ipswich ya'll are talking about ha ha ha.

I have never seen that movie! I take it Ipswich is a name of a person in that movie rather than a place?

No Ipswich is the name of a place in that movie, but I believe it's supposed to take place in like, Pennsylvania, or Maine, or Conneticut.

You know Americans ruthlessly plunder/appropriate other countries' stuff all the time. Blah, can't contribute in an intelligent manner at the moment... Just you know "New Jersey" etc. I'm going to go over in the corner and lie down. I hope that's alright.

If it's any consolation, our name plundering confuses us probably as much as it confuses you. I live in a place near Ontario in California, but I have a friend who lives in Ontario, Canada. It is the cause of much confusion. xD

Was that addressed to me? Yet another person who thinks I am British (or at least, not American). I'm getting good at this subterfuge...

Lol, Ipswich as a name?
That kind of thing seems extremely stupid to me. Like calling a poor kid Paris or London.
I'm glad my town doesn't have an equivalent overseas. It's too small to.

@Biggles: I don't even take guesses about where people are from anymore. It's too hard. You just mentioned name plundering so I thought I'd join in. -shrug-
@Pearl: I've actually heard both the name Paris and London! Granted, Paris was named after the Trojian hero, so I don't know if that counts.

Hahahaha All the towns near where I live are all Native American names, really. Washougal (my home town), Yakima, Yacolt, Kalama, Dechutes, stuff like that.

It's funny that although Native American culture has been almost completely suppressed by the immigrants, the place names are still retained, leading to non-Native Americans developing an identity with Mississippi, or wherever, which seems like an ultimate victory for the Native Americans.

Or it could just be typical American laziness "God, Don't make me name something. Oh, someone already named it? Awesome."

I really treasure my Native American heritage, honestly, and I'm glad that Americans didn't squash it out of existence completely. I'm just under half blood Cherokee and Seminol (The other half being Irish, Wlesh, Romanian, and a plethora of other european countries. {{Great great great grandma on my fathers side was from a family of nomads.}}) My boyfriend is half Cherokee as well. It's nice to be able to indulge in that side of my life.

I'm 'Native English' as far back as the 13th century. Peasants, peasants and more peasants.
Of course, there have been so many migrations/invasions before then, but I think it's likely my ancestors have stayed pretty static.

The farthest back my family can confirm it's ancestry is to one to the viking invasions of Britain. Our surname still bears it's traces.

Erm. My ancestors were allegedly reinforcements sent from Denmark in the battle against king Alfred*. They lost, but settled in the south east of England anyway.
*it was Alfred, wasn't it? -Googles-
Edit: Yep, t'was Alfred
