Yarn Craft!
Hello everyone! YOu may have seen me around and you may know that I love to crochet! As such, I looked for a hang out that had to do with yarn craft and was unable to find one so I am going to attempt to make one! Here it is!
If you like to crochet, knit or do any neato things with yarn, come hang out with at least one like-minded individual! Share patterns, stitches, instructional vids, you name it! To start off the convo, I am making my own hat pattern. My hope is to use the star/daisy stitch. My first pattern! |
Good luck.
(: |
Boobical?
|
There's a few knitters and crocheters scattered around site. I can knit but I am slow slow slow. I do crochet and I'm currently making squares for a couple blankets and some lace that will someday grow up to be a tablecloth.
|
Had to start a round all over. D:
---------- You can tat? (working with lace, I am told, is called tatting) I am jealous. That work is too fine for my fingers and eyes though, I haven't actually tried it yet! I can knit, too but slow like you. I find it unnecessarily complicated but, it makes other folks happy so, good for them! |
No, it's crocheted lace, filet, not tatting, although I wonder if I could do that. Never tried.
I started to knit a beautiful cable knit shawl but I'll be 70 before I finish it, lol. It is probably how I hold the needles but meh, I'll stick to crochet. I'm better at it. |
How do you hold the needles? I can do the knit stitch fine but Pearl screws me up!
I cheat when I hold them. I rest them against my leg when I am going through a stitch. :P |
lol I can't describe it really, probably the same way you do. I have a death grip on them, that's for sure.
|
Lol! Yeah. I think both knitting and crocheting take a certain finesse. Sometimes you have it right off, most times you gotta practice. Other times...no luck, eh?
I work with kids and I teach them to knit (I know enough to teach them basics) and crochet and they always make their stitches so tight! They come to me with a tight chain thinking that I will teach them another stitch. |
I tried teaching my daughter but she's more interested in drawing and painting, which is fine. My stick people have issues about being poorly drawn so I don't bother with that.
Here's some stuff I made recently (lol ignore the mess that is my house in the background): http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...Picture003.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...Picture002.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...Picture001.jpg The middle blanket did end up done. It was for my daughter. I personally think the colors don't look right together but the girl child loved them so I shouldn't complain. The third is still being worked on but it has a bunch of ribbing and I hate sc ribbing. I got bored and shelved it for a bit. |
Those colors actually aren't too bad. It makes me think of winter time. What sort of yearn are you using for the first one?
Let me see what I can find for my stuff. A lot of it is at work. ---------- http://www.menewsha.com/forum/member...cture33206.jpg I made this hippo for my boyfriend. I have a little book of how to make 10 different amigurumi animals! So much fun, so easy, and so quick to make! http://www.menewsha.com/forum/member...cture36792.jpg This is the second hat I ever made. Completed it last week. Only took about 6 or 7 hours total. I made another one at work in blue that is nowhere near as cute because I used a bigger hook. Everyone loves this hat. |
I used the homespun yarn for the first two and then regular worsted yarn (Red Heart off white I think) for the last one. I like how the homespun yarns are so very soft but they tend to get a little shaggy (or alot) when you wash them.
I do like that hat. I've not tried to make a hat. I've made little bags but never a hat. |
I like red heart because they get really creative with their colors. They have more multi-colored yarns than Lion Brand. In my experience working with it though, it becomes very stiff and scratchy. After blocking it's really nice but Lion Brand is warm and comfy all the time. :)
Hats are easy! Take a couple hours to make. I finished a new one I have to block and picture today. |
I am more of a cross stitcher but I am teaching myself slowly to knit and crochet. I am taking my time doing those, since I am just getting back into cross stitching and plastic canvasing as well. My project with plastic canvas is going to be just the Disney Princesses part of the kleenex boxes patterns that I have. I can just stitch up the princesses and place them on the wall.
|
Ooooh. What's plastic canvassing? Sounds neat!
|
Plastic canvasing is where you just stitch on plastic canvas and you can make alot of things. I would love to make barbie items but my daughter wouldn't appreciate them. I made an entire bedroom set for her and she ended up ruining it. You can also make coasters, kleenex boxes, magnets, bags, and tons more things. I really crave to make things out of plastic canvas but that would all depend if my daughter will suck it up and be a girl for once. >.> And play with dolls so I can make her those items again. They are so much fun to do and you stitch differently than cross stitching so that is a nice different pace for me.
|
Lol! That's cute that she is a tomboy! You said "again?" Was she a girly girl before? If so then she is just going through a phase. I see it a lot at work. If a girl in school can't make friends with the other girls then they become a bit more boyish and make friends with the boys. Sometimes something just clicks in them and they become that way. ...I work with kids, o.O
|
She has 3 brothers and they pretty much don't like her so she always into boy things more. Even though she plays with Bratz dolls.
|
Bratz are the new barbie. I am convinced.
|
Ya it kinda is. They changed the name of it and the look of the dolls and I forgot the new name of them, but they are cuter. Well this week I will be getting 334$ so I might just go and buy some of the patterns if my daughter will swear to using them cause if not then I have to find something else to make hehe.
|
You're only getting 334? I got just under 1k. :D I am head of house though. I also got mine forever ago. I am assuming you're talking about your rebate. ...I am.
|
No not my rebate, I sold alot of things of mine on amazon.com and that is the money that is being sent to me in a few days from the sales.
|
How do personal sales on Amazon work? I was always curious.
