Just wanna say that I heart you, PhoenixIllusion. I read all four books as a light read between the high fantasy and scifi I normally devour.
OH, where do I start...Bella's a MarySue to the millionth degree, Edward is like my psycho ex-fiancee who wanted me me not to go ANYWHERE or talk to ANYONE, dress in fourteen layers of clothing and message him every time I changed locations because he was so 'afraid I would get hurt and just wanted to protect' me (i.e., from anyone better for me than him), Jacob is a furry doormat pedophile, and Stephanie Meyer is a misogynistic brainless turd who tells, and never shows, in her writing. I know why everyone was so shocked (pissed, upset, vomiting) about RPat's casting-- She never actually described what Edward looked like. Sure, he was 'hot, sexy, handomse, inhumanly beautiful, chiseled, pale, hot, gorgeous, handsome, hot, statuesque, hot'...and so everyone had their own idea of how he looked (personally, I was envisioning somewhere between Keanu Reeves, Hugh Jackman, and Billie Joe Armstrong) and only the witless, mooing fangirls who have the amazing ability to believe anything and everything they are told actually thought that Pattinson looked like anything other than a caveman whose magic time portal crashed him chest-first into a Claire's Accessories shop.
A site I read once also brought up an interesting point--Stephenie Meyer apparantly thinks all women should be a blank template like Bella, waiting for their respective sparkly or furry father figure freak to anoint them with fairy dust and turn them into real girls. Why is it that female 'werewolves' (shapeshifters, *shimas* or whatthefuckever) become sterile when they change, and the males are raging furballs of testosterone? Why could Edward imprgnate the human Bella, but Rosalie, the only one who wanted and seemed mentally capable of caring for a child, could not have a child with her vampire lover? Because women can't be supernatural without losing what makes them women? Can they not have that one-up on mankind (and I mean MANkind) by having supernatural powers AND the ability to create life? Isn't that a bit scary for a modern woman who should have been taught to at least strive to be a man's equal, even if they don't consider her to be? (insert Mormon rant here)
Also, she has a closet fascination with paedophilia, however you look at it. The obvious one is Edward, but people often don't consider the wolf camp, who are a bunch of grooming pedobears (pedowolves?) themselves. I think the quote goes something like "They are whatever the subject of their imprinting needs them to be"...and the text goes on to infer that this means "until the subject is mature enough for a sexual, romantic relationship". OH wait, Meyer says "it's hard to resist that level of devotion", which means that since she's a girl, she doesn't really have a mind of her own anyway, and she'll think the hulking, temperamentally unstable fuzzbucket drooling over her is TEH SEXY.

My gay friend and I have founded a tradition that involves sneaking into the local alcohol-serving theatre, ordering a pitcher of sangria (hurr hurr irony), getting shitfaced, and making wholly innapropriate (but TRUE!) comments throughout the movie, much to the chagrin of the shimmering masses, draped in too-large, hastily-Bedazzled Team Tweedledee & Team Tweedledumbshit t-shirts. I had a friend who read the first book and told me this. She said it was like really bad fanfiction. That is precisely what it is. It is really bad fanfiction.

The characters are stop-and-stare gorgeous, they're smart, they're popular. Bella has like four people ask her to a dance after she's been in town for a week. A WEEK AND EVERYONE IS ALL ''OH UR BELLA SWAN I CAN EAT U OUT PLX?'' Everyone wants to be her friend. Everyone knows her name. Edward is like... mind-boggling beautiful, with beautiful eyes and a beautiful face, and a beautiful voice and gutjnfvgbhgfrd plx 2 b dying nao.

Don't get me wrong. I am all about the pretty vampires. But when they're described as having "bruises under their eyes"... That's not hot. That's dead. Bella is a necrophiliac.
