O.o
Nuuuuuuuuuuu TT.TT
Where'd you get him from?
And is it pronounced Steh-fawn or Steffin? *knows people who've had it pronounced both ways*

Cardinal Biggles 06-25-2010 03:20 AM

And how long does he stay like that (I'm going with the masculine pronoun, given its name)?

Harley Q 06-25-2010 04:25 AM

Steh-fawn and yes, I'm calling him male. I don't know how long he'll stay like this, my last caterpillar [who was a wooly bear] ate like a mammoth and then turned into a cocoon after a few weeks. We'll just have to see, won't we? :]

My mother got him from the pet shop, he [and many others of his species] are sold there as food for bigger animals.

Crimson_daffodils_Layla 06-25-2010 10:17 PM

O.o
But they're so cute!

koneko of the nekos 06-25-2010 10:19 PM

I want to get some caterpillars to watch turn into butterflies. I don't know any shops around here that sell them though. I've only seen crickets and millworms (sp???) for reptile food choice.

Cardinal Biggles 06-25-2010 10:21 PM

I've seen these netted house kits in magazines. It comes with a pop up house and some monarch larvae that you can raise. They seem pretty spiffy.

koneko of the nekos 06-25-2010 10:24 PM

Yeah. I've seen those little butterfly houses before. I'm nervous because they send you the house and then you mail some certificate for the caterpillar larvae things. I'm just worried that I'll pay for it and be scammed somehow. lol

@Harley: the pic finally loaded for me. i looooves him. SOOO cute!

Crimson_daffodils_Layla 06-25-2010 10:24 PM

I love monarchs :) They're so pretty :)
Are caterpillars expensive? Like to buy and then to feed and house and things like that?
I think my favorite caterpillar (if it is one, I'm not sure if it is or not) is an inchworm. Woollyworms are close though. So... fuzzy...
it helps if you refresh the page. that's why you can't see people's signatures sometimes.

Cardinal Biggles 06-25-2010 10:26 PM

Hm. I don't know much about it all. I know my neighbour bought one. I guess I could go ask her about it.

Crimson_daffodils_Layla 06-25-2010 10:30 PM

suddenly I feel like finding an inchworm and scaring my sister with it. Sadly, she is at work right now...

Harley Q 06-26-2010 04:19 PM

I don't know how much caterpillars would cost, this guy was only a dollar fifty, but with my previous caterpillar pet I just caught him in the wild [I think that's easier].

Inch worms are SO adorable, I love them so much but I really don't see them all that often.

koneko of the nekos 06-26-2010 04:22 PM

I used to see inchworms all the time at a house I lived in as a kid. I haven't seen one in years and years though. They're so adorable.

Harley Q 06-26-2010 04:23 PM

They're just so neat in the way that they move, but I can count on one hand the amount of times that I've ever seen [and played] with them.

Crimson_daffodils_Layla 06-26-2010 10:23 PM

same here *sighs*
I think, if I want a caterpillar pet, it will have to wait until I move out because no one in my family (save my brother, my father, and I) is fond of bugs or other critters :P

Harley Q 06-27-2010 01:17 AM

The great thing about caterpillars is that they're small so they're really easy to keep. And it's not even like a cat or a dog that would make noises and inform other people that it's there. I just have my guy in a little plastic enclosure with some sticks and leaves for him to crawl along.

Wow. Don't I feel great now. In third grade, we had a project that involved raising a caterpillar. The students did a great job... mostly. Mine died in it's cocoon.

Harley Q 06-27-2010 01:30 AM

Aww ! Well.. if it makes you feel any better, I lost my last caterpillar. It.. went into a cocoon and then.. disappeared. It was weird. It might have died, but I really don't know enough about caterpillars to make that judgement.

PLUS when I take care of a caterpillar I put my everything into it, I'd take it outside.. if it wouldn't endanger its life.

koneko of the nekos 06-27-2010 01:50 AM

lmao. sounds like me and fish. those suckers die on me faster than i can buy them. i'm proud of myself. i bought 15 fish. 14 are left a month later. weeee! lol. (its a 10 gallon tank)

Harley Q 06-27-2010 03:06 AM

Fish require too much cleaning for me and not enough physical interaction. I find that I require that affection from pets, I don't get it a lot from other people.

koneko of the nekos 06-27-2010 03:17 AM

I bought the fish for my kidlets and the filter keeps the tank clean. I also have a cat and 3 dogs. :D

Harley Q 06-27-2010 03:40 AM

I've got a whole farm: three cats, one iguana, one bearded dragon, two leopard geckos, one snake [and one caterpillar].

Seridano 06-30-2010 06:25 AM

Ack, sorry I keep disappearing for long periods of time, things are quite hectic over here. >.<

Harley Q 06-30-2010 06:38 PM

Hectic, how so?

Seridano 07-20-2010 09:52 PM

All sorts of running around for work and to take care of the younger sibbies while the parents are off on vacation. Hmm how to get rid of children...drop them off with their sister, who wanted to take a vacation herself this summer >.< Not okay.

Seridano 08-03-2010 01:23 AM

Yep...we totally let this die >.< Sorry folks.
