Oh no! It looks like the thread has died!
Hello everyone.
My surgery went by fine. Im still a tad bit sleepy. And sore. |
Oh! I'm excited to hear it went well, Ribs! I was thinking of you. :)
Really?
You were? Well thats nice. I think im gonna go take a nap though. |
:XD Yes, a nap might be good for you. When you're well I'd love to hear about your surgery escapades!
Post surgery naps are always a good thing. *nod nod*
I took a two hour nap.
:D Wanna know the best thing about getting a surgery? You get to milk people with it. :D |
Oh hellz yes, Ribs, you definitely get to milk people with it. :XD And lay around!
YUP!
:D So. I had a lovely night at Alisons. She invited me over for dinner. I had Indian food. It was okayish. I didnt eat alot like i normally do. I got full after the two cans of pop. XD And we played Uno. She won twice. I won once. We both suck at shuffeling cards. XD We watched five minutes of Harry Potter 4. We ate ice cream. Oh and i was a nosy bitch and looked through her closet. I am now sportin her old yellow car slippers she had when she was little. :D AND THEY FIT ME! |
Aw, that's cute, Ribs! It sounds like you had a really great time. :D
Oh i did.
:D I love these slippers. :D |
I got new shoes yesterday which I'm not in love with but I'm certainly enjoying.
What else has been going on in Rib's world? Have you started school? |
School has not started yet.
One more week of summer. And then school. D: |
Already? My university's only halfway through the second session of summer school. We don't start until September 20th-ish. (Then again, we don't end until mid-June.)
School has already started where I'm from both K-12 and university. :stare: But we're done by May, so!
Yeah, my undergraduate institution began in late August. I turned in my senior thesis on April 30th or something early like that.
Awesome, what was your thesis on?
A survey of the history of the cello, basically.
Was it fun to write?
Actually, yes! I took a few years off after college, but now I'm back at it, working on my dissertation about film music now.
That's so cool! Where are you planning to take all of this?
Oh, where dissertations and graduate school usually lead -- to a professorship in a large teaching and research institute. I love school, and this way I'll never have to leave. :D Universities are also really great places for LGBTQ communities... at least usually... and as I learn more I think I'll get more active.
My first experience with the community was during my first year of college. It's too bad I didn't fit in better.
What sort of research do you hope to end up doing? How is it going to contribute to the world? |
I'm really interested in anime music, but where it's leading me (I think) in my dissertation is towards the globalization of film music. There's very little written on it -- lots of books on "world music" and "film music around the world," but it's all got this sense that "Other Countries" are somehow static, and have the same film music no matter which individual writes it. While this can be true, in a way -- for instance, there's a definite sound to contemporary American Hollywood blockbusters -- often there's a reason. With Hollywood, the Hans Zimmer sound is really popular, a kind of symphonic score with added drumbeats and heavy guitar/rock influences. But that's all coming from one person, and his factory-style composition studio, which employs unnamed young composers to fill out his scores.

Oh, wow, I did not know that. That doesn't sound cool on Hans' part. :stare:
