I'll check out your raffle after my trip to the museum today. My partner and I are taking our son and going with a friend (and her son) to see the PostSecret exhibit! I'm super excited and hoping there's some queer related postcards to be seen. :)

Waaah~! The PostSecret was so cool! If you get a chance to see it where either of you live you should definitely go. I drove a couple hours and stayed with a friend so that I could go. I'm also happy to report that my little one behaved himself well while his parents read postcards with the intimate details of other's lives on them. :XD
CZ now insists that we finish collecting the PostSecret books; we have the first three already.

Lore, are you asking me, or Ribs?
(My change is because I like changing my avatars. I have three accounts here -- mine, the mule, and my charity mule -- and I'm constantly moving clothing around to change their looks. :D)

We've got to get some actual conversation going on, folks!
How many of us have been to a Pride parade or event?

I'm not sure! Do you think it should count?
I've been to a Pride parade before and to a couple of the LGBTQ club meetings on campus before but that's all. I've never been to a gay club or bar before but then again.. I've never been to a regular club or bar before.

I had a dream that i fell in love with a girl named Samantha.
Only i was in my 20s.
Owned and was the head chef of my own restaurant that was well known in Chicago.
And Samantha was a famous pianist.
...
Best dream ever.
Ive added on to it in my head.

For someone who lives near West Hollywood, that bastion of gay culture, I've had remarkably little exposure to public pride activities. I think because the LGBTQ thing simply hasn't been a big deal in my life, because of where I've been to school, the places I've lived—it wasn't until I began studying queer culture that I realized its long, struggling history.

Or Because I'm still in the closet O.o

I've been to Gay Pride quite a few times, though that's not saying much since where I live, there is I think the highest percentage of straight-identified people at the parade in the world, or something. At least there is one of the highest participation rates in the world. Never been on a float though. And then I've been to a few clubs and been part of the LGBT community at uni, though never a very active member.
scholar, I'm the same in that it wasn't until I really started studying this stuff that I realised it was some kind of a deal.. I never really thought about it till I was.. 18 I think, because at that point I got a bit confused in my sexuality as well as my gender identity, and I felt a sort of pressure from society to find a label to identify myself with. So I started studying these things and it's not until recently (I'm 22) that I realised labels are really crap, and I don't need to find one to identify with - something I've been trying to do for years and never succeeded in doing.
Edit: By the way, I love the name of this thread. QUILTBAG - awesome.

My issue is that I'm always read as straight even when participating in queer culture. That was what my experience was like on campus because I didn't fit in with the rest of the gay kids. They were all about theater and the typical gay "stuff" and I was just beginning to explore my sexuality openly. I've been out of the closet since high school but it hasn't really done me a lot of good. I have to put forth a real effort to be seen as queer. It makes me sad and a bit mad too.
I want that label because it gives me a short explanation when people ask questions.
