That's what happens when old people don't know much about technology. She's not even that old, just doesn't like thinking things through properly. Logic really isn't her strong point.

my grandmother STILL believes that if anybody is in bed the tv (yes, they only have 1 tv and it's in the front room) must be turned off or the person sleeping will get brain cancer. explain that to me.

My college roommate insisted that if you ate before you slept, you'd die in your sleep. And she's not old! She was my age but believed it cause her mom supposedly knew someone who ate and slept and died. Cause, you know, everyone would be dropping off like flies if that was true.
