a pinch of salt helps offset the pure sweet of sugar allowing a contrast in the flavor that brings it alive more ... look at any cookie recipe and you will find it asks for salt ... try making it without the salt and see how wrong it tastes ...

I don't understand kosher ... it's basically wasting half an animal isn't it?

The gelatin you eat in Jell-O comes from the collagen in cow or pig bones, hooves, and connective tissues. To make gelatin, manufacturers grind up these various parts and pre-treat them with either a strong acid or a strong base to break down cellular structures and release proteins like collagen. After pre-treatment, the resulting mixture is boiled. During this process, the large collagen protein ends up being partially broken down, and the resulting product is called gelatin.

either way, I have decided that pig is bad for you :yes: among a few other things. I dont believe in the full kosher "diet" but most of it I understand, and pig definitely counts.

I just recently cut down on red meat. I mostly eat fish and chicken because the taste of red meat sickens me.
