Welcome! (or as my friend, Vexatious~Venom would say,"Salutations from the back!") I've pretty much made this hangout because even though I've been on Menewsha for a while, I've never really posted in the main threads like the hangouts and general discussion. Hello one and all! Johnny Depp makes the most awesome Mad Hatter in all of history! Did you know the term "mad as a hatter" comes from colonial times? People who made hats back in England used toxic chemicals that them a bit....how to put this nicely?....mad. I find that funny. I suppose people's stupidity was the curse that beaver kind put upon them. lol |
The Mad Hatter is one of my favourite characters, I like the Chesshire Cat too though :D
I did hear something like that Jupiter, apparently they rubbed a chemical into the hat material and it got into their bloodstream, when they did that for a long period of time, it did indeed drive them mad *nods* |
The Cheshire Cat is freaking awesome! In Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, his eyes are so fantastic. You'd think that even back then with all their ignorance, they would try to find something a bit safer to use, huh Shotgun? People amaze me sometimes lol |
I loved Tim Burton's version of Alice In Wonderland, it was one of my favourite films when I was younger, so when I heard he was remamking it, I made plans to see it :D
Well, when you consider the time it was, it's really not surprising, but you'd have thought they would know it was the chemical causing the problem. |
lol when Tim Burton's Alice came out, I went and watched it on my first date with my ex. XD that was fun you would think so....oh well. wat's done is done, and thanks to them, we have a really awesome phrase! haha! =D |

Well I'm glad it happened, because my life is considerably better with mad hatters in it! And I adore the tim burton films, as well as, well EVERYTHING ABOUT ALICE : D |
Well, I'm sorry, but I can't resist the oppertunity to show off my general knowledge skills.
In the olden days they used to use the chemical mercury in hat making. Mercury had an effect on the hatters nervous system and caused them to tremble, shake and appear insane, even though their body was just being poisoned by the materials used in the hats. That is where the phrase 'as mad as a hatter' came from, and simmilarly, where the Mad Hatter came from. |
