Speaking of comics, I'm still on the first page of mine..... I don't think that's a good sign.

Hyena 02-10-2011 03:18 AM

That... was a weird thing to say. xD

So I'm pretty sure I can do anything right now if I put my mind to it. And stopped getting distracted. xD

Taiyo: It takes me at least a day to get one page inked. Starting is the hard part.

sarofset 02-10-2011 04:23 AM

You use markers for your inking right? It seems like the right thickness and all.

Your comic is really good, but it doesn't go fast enough. Write faster woman!! *shakes fist in frustration*

Hyena 02-10-2011 05:05 AM

Markers, fine point pens, watercolor. I mix it up a bit sometimes.

Three days a weeks isn't fast enough?

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 05:26 AM

I've noticed with that.

I'm probably going to be using a lot of gel pens and colored pencils. Yes, I lack proper art equipment.

Hyena 02-10-2011 05:28 AM

My main medium is Sharpie.

-cough-

sarofset 02-10-2011 05:34 AM

I prefer it when they get uploaded a chapter at a time. that way I'm not stuck on a page by page schedule. It feels strung out when I read it that way. However I suppose you have to write it how you write it. lol. Everyone has their own style. I just wait a week or two to read, so more has happened.

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 05:42 AM

Then you'll like and hate how I update. I'll be updating my chapter, but it'll be on a montly basis...I hope. College homework can be a bit discombobulating.

Hyena 02-10-2011 05:46 AM

Chapter-by-chapter is good for some people, but that puts me at an irregular schedule compared to other webcomics in the business. When I talk with people who are more successful than I am, they always advise on updating on a regular once-to-multiple times a week schedule because the average reader is a creature of habit. When I have them printed, that will be a chapter-by-chapter, but there's a difference in mediums there.

So I'm really just following advice. And after three years of it, I think that if I changed it up now it would not be well-recieved. xD

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 05:52 AM

I just think it would be better to do it chapter-by-chapter rather than page-by-page, even if it does take longer to update. Though in the summer it may be even longer due to a bitch grandmother, which causes me to only be able to exercise my love of reading around her. And even that pisses her off because it's fantasy and sci-fi, i.e. what "young ladies shouldn't be reading". Blech. Her idea of a good read is a sappy-ass corny romance novel. Yuck. Sorry, give me sci-fi and fantasy with plenty of action.

Hyena 02-10-2011 05:57 AM

To each his own, really on update schedules. Its just that every person that I've talked to who has gotten far enough into the business to have any say in it says that to reach a wider audience its best to be regular and frequent. There are always exceptions, like Hanna is Not a Boy's Name, but that one also reads better chapter-to-chapter. When I write, I write it page-to-page, which I think is how it should be updated.

Young... ladies shouldn't be... what? But... you're a grown woman. D=

You should sneak in some raunchy erotica and see what she does. xD

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 06:12 AM

On the subject of my webcomic, it's the same way, at least in my head it reads better in chapters. That, and I'll be throwing in little info pages because not everyone is familiar with NJROTC and as such I feel it may be nessicary to have those bonus pages for people outside of any kind of ROTC. And as you've probably already noticed, I'm a former NJROTC cadet myself so I'm prepared for doing a webmanga on NJ.

As for my granny-bitch and reading materials, I've already done that. I've read the Dark-Hunter novels in front of her, and I don't think she likes it. Then again, my mom does the same thing and my granny hates it when mom reads Dark-Hunter also. She also hates the fact that she can't get me and mom so far under her thumb so we turn into housewives. Fucking housewives. Okay, knowing how to cook is far from a bad thing, nor is being able to keep your place clean, but the idea of getting married and becoming a stay-at-home houswife ain't for me. But back on books, whenever I read any of the Dark-Hunters, my brain is in the gutter. I mean in the gutter. And then there's times I'll be laughing at them so hard my face is red and I have to put the book down and stuff my fist in my mouth to keep from laughing my ass off.

Hyena 02-10-2011 06:22 AM

Yeah... its all about how YOU see them reading, honestly. Mine wasn't intended on being a thrice-weekly update schedule, but since it is, its been reaching a wider audience.

...why are you staying with your gran again? o_o

My roommate Estelle once gave me a book that was entitled "Bawdy Stories to Keep You Up at Night." And I read some of them and they were like... wat? xDD

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 06:27 AM

I live with my mom when I'm on breaks from school, and she lives with her parents out of necessity. She's over 60 and desperate for work so that she can hopefully get a place of her own so we don't have to live with bitch grandmother. Hopefully if she does, it'll be in my hometown so I can move back there and call my hometown my home address! *longing anime eyes*

And you know you're a nerd when some of your favorite singers are computers: YouTube - Under the Darkness - KAITO (romaji Lyrics and MP3) I swear, this is my favorite song by KAITO!

Hyena 02-10-2011 06:30 AM

I'd listen to the link if there wasn't a sleeping Liz next to me... my headphones seem to have gone missing. Again.

Here's hoping your mom gets steady work, both for her sake and yours. Your gran sounds like a real control freak. >>

sarofset 02-10-2011 05:06 PM

My mom needs work too. XD freakin economic bull crap messing with my life. *shakes fist in anger*

I would maybe do a web comic, if I could draw a bit better. I can write great, but drawing is not quite as easy for me. Dysgraphia doncha know.

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 07:12 PM

@ Hyena: She is. Bigtime. And I don't think she'd like me drawing a webcomic just because of the character lineup;
-A lesbian who wants to be in the Navy
-A bisexual football player
-A Jew who loves tinkering with things (future engineer)
-A Wiccan guy with a helluva sense of style and a faceful of metal
-A cheeleader with an actual IQ
-A giant of a guy (6'10"!) who loves spicy food and is a girl magnet
-A black girl who's amazing with spinning a rifle
-A drill team commander who LOVES flipping people off
-A small-town boy who REALLY dosn't want to inherit the family farm
-An assisitant drill team commander who got stuck being in charge of the dysfunctional platoon
-A guy who sometimes runs around in drag.....
-A glomp-happy runt
-A Native American guy who wonders why he's on a team full of crazies
-A guy who got held back a year, yet has the mind of a genius

I've got a folder with all the characters in it, but I'm having trouble finding it. In short, the drill team is full of people with strange quirks. And maybe a few screws loose.

@ sarof: I could give you lessons if you like.

sarofset 02-10-2011 07:33 PM

You have lots of characters there. Will you have one or two be the main focus of certain story arcs or the whole comic?

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 07:36 PM

It'll be like each chapter will be from the point of view of different characters, but I'll be focusing on the freshman as they'll be sticking around the longest.

sarofset 02-10-2011 08:29 PM

I see. Might be a good comic. Once you get some up, tell me, and I'll give it a read.

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 08:37 PM

That'll be a while then, as I'm still stuck ont he first page! :gonk:

sarofset 02-10-2011 09:47 PM

What's the problem holding you up? Writer's block, or?

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2011 10:24 PM

College.

Oh! Go to YouTube and type "Uhhh...what did she just say??" into the search box. The video is the first link that comes up, and you will laugh your butt off.

Hyena 02-10-2011 10:26 PM

When I'm having trouble getting a page started, I start writing dialogue between two characters and see where that goes. A friend of mine, Kayla, was commissioning my girlfriend to make her novel idea into a comic book and started off with the main character talking to her therapist.

EDIT: oh. School. I forget people DO that.

EDIT EDIT: I remember that happening. I laughed my ass off. xD

sarofset 02-10-2011 10:51 PM

I'm in college. ...You probably don't have six hours between classes though huh? lol. I'm bad at aiming when I schedule.
