cuppycake_geek 05-09-2011 07:18 AM

Cardinal Biggles 05-09-2011 07:29 AM

Outside daytime prom? The better to see what the teenagers were doing, I guess.

cuppycake_geek 05-09-2011 07:42 AM

no the sunburn was from the day before but I had tons of fun and I have to go to sleep now guys night

sarofset 05-09-2011 02:38 PM

Good morning everyone. I woke up early when I didn't have to. I am annoyed with my internal clock, so I'm complaining about it.

cuppycake_geek 05-10-2011 04:54 AM

its ok I did something like that too only thunder was the issue

sarofset 05-10-2011 04:56 AM

Ah. that was a few days ago for me.

Cardinal Biggles 05-10-2011 06:12 AM

Ah, I love the sound of thunder, especially in nocturnal contexts. Snuggled in your bed-bye is just as delicious a place to enjoy it as is with the windows thrown open, as I often do.

FeyonaSaibre 05-10-2011 06:33 PM

We get a lot of thunderstorms here. One of my friends is a storm-elemental, so everytime it rains and thunders, I have to let him know it's going on. I've never seen anyone so happy in a storm before. It was like watching a kid in a candy store.

TaiyoTsuki 05-11-2011 01:03 AM

I don't mind thunderstorms as long as they don't come with tornadoes and I'm inside.

sarofset 05-11-2011 01:11 AM

I like really loud thunder. The kind that rolls on forever, and pulses right through your bones. It's delicious. :)

TaiyoTsuki 05-11-2011 01:36 AM

Whenever there's a thunder storm going on I think of a story I wrote; the Bowling Tournament of the Gods.

sarofset 05-11-2011 01:40 AM

I think there was an old joke about that on some cartoon shows when I was little.

TaiyoTsuki 05-11-2011 01:43 AM

That's part of where the idea came from; it's centered around a round between the Egyptian, Greek, and Norse pantheons. I still need to type the thing out though; it's written up on paper.

sarofset 05-11-2011 01:44 AM

Ah. I do all of my writing on my computer. ...then I decide it sucks and delete it.

TaiyoTsuki 05-11-2011 02:21 AM

Having a notepad handy is nice for when you can't get to a computer or a laptop. It's also how I kept track of my writing ideas while in class...untill assholes showed up and threw it all in the trash or flushed it down a toilet.

Cardinal Biggles 05-11-2011 04:00 AM

That's part of the plot of Rip Van Winkle, isn't it? That the funny old men (in reality, nature spirits) play nine pins with him before he falls in to the sort of sleep often associated with encounters with such nature spirits? And the nine pins, or rather their demolishing, is connected with thunder? It's been a while, my memory is hazy. But it brings up something delightful from Egyptian mythology, the god of the earth was Geb, and in relation to that fact, earthquakes were referred to as "Geb's Laughter"

TaiyoTsuki 05-11-2011 04:05 AM

Yeph, that it was. Finally someone who knows something about Egyptian mythology!

ANyway, time for me to hit the rack. I have a final at 0750...fun.

cuppycake_geek 05-11-2011 04:10 AM

guh I hate going through the woods to find little cards on the back of trees! first I walk through a bunch of spider nests then I see two birds mating then a skunk then I found a wood tick on me it was not fun

Cardinal Biggles 05-11-2011 05:25 AM

Actually, that sounds like amazing fun.

I've been studying all aspects of ancient Egyptian culture since I was about nine years old. Though I must admit, I've become a bit rusty in some areas in recent years.

sarofset 05-11-2011 06:35 PM

Hm... Are you of the kind who believes the book of the dead was written before the Hyxos invasion, or after?

Cardinal Biggles 05-11-2011 07:33 PM

It has it's origins in the pyramid texts, It evolved from there. I don't think the Hyksos prompted anything. The chariot and extensive use of horses, well, that's another thing all together

sarofset 05-11-2011 07:37 PM

Yes however some of the Egyptian religion doesn't seem to exist before the Hyksos, and people seem to think it might be a clue as to their own religion. Or that it was derivative of the Hibaru (Hebrew) religion at the time.

I rarely meet anyone who has studied this enough to actually talk about it. :)

Cardinal Biggles 05-11-2011 08:34 PM

Hebrew religion, if you look at their texts (which post date most of the events that they are recording, so we can either A) give them some leeway and say that their facts are either muddied slightly by more recent history still freshing in the imagination, or B) just largely constructed) actually borrows more from other earlier religions (Primarily those from the fertile crescent) than almost any still strong in in existence todays...

I am wondering about your sources for on the influence of the Hyksos on the religion or ancient Egypt. I'm genuinely interested it now.

sarofset 05-11-2011 08:52 PM

There were no similar monotheistic religions in the fertile crescent to the Judaism of the time. Zoroastrianism could almost be called similar, but not really if you look deeper than the surface.

And the reason the Hebrews had no written texts is because they were a warrior nomad tribe, and we actually have only scattered writings from the time from anyone. The Aryan influx sort of wrecked up the place. What little we know about the religion in the fertile crescent of that time is based on a few bits and pieces of poems and such like Gilgamesh. Their gods were nothing like the Aberhamic God.

AS for the bit about Egyptian religion it has mostly to do with the fact that we know next to nothing about their religion form pre Roman sources. We have a few from the Greeks. Some scattered actual Egyptian texts, but not enough. Most of what we know of their culture is from other peoples, and that's somewhat less than reliable.

It leads to a lot of guesswork around them.
