The item that I cherish most in my life is a ticket to a concert to see one of the greatest bands I have ever listened to. This measly piece of paper maybe just be that to some, but to me, it holds a great memory. When I see this ticket, I think back to that night when I went to the concert with my friend, Regan. The slick, glossy feeling that the ticket has when I hold it between my fingers makes me think of a ‘golden ticket’ from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I still have this ticket tacked up on my wall so I can always cherish the memory that became of that night.


This rectangular strip of pure awesome means so much more then a night at a concert. It was a night of living, laughing and rock and roll. The best part about going to the concert was that is was a spontaneous move. Earlier that wonderful day, Regan had come up to me and asked if I had anything to do that night. In response I said “no what do you have planned.” She then said that she wanted to go see an awesome band called the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Okay, thats that so far.

I really liked your comparison to the Willy Wonka ticket because those things were really sought after and treasured.

As I already loved that band, I instantly agreed to go to the show with her and thus began one of the best nights ever.

When we got the box box office at the Orpheum in Boston, Massachusetts, we had to buy our tickets, in hopes that there were some left. When I was at the window getting ready to pay for my ticket, my stomach became filled with butterflies. When the man held out the small red and white ticket, I looked down at it and for a split second, and it seemed to me that there was a golden aura surrounding the ticket, like it was the Holy Grail. I was so excited that when I ripped the ticket out of the mans hand, I almost gave him a paper cut. Once I had the ticket in my hands, I felt as if I had been floating on cloud nine as I drifted through the doors.

Once inside the theater, there was already a mediocre band playing as other people filtered into their fold-down theater seats. As the crowd flowing in started to settle down, the other band finished up and got their things off the stage; while stage crew rushed around like mice setting up for the main event. Then all of a sudden the lights went out and thus started the memory of this glossy piece of paper.

As I walked home, I held the ticket in my pocket, glancing down at it occasionally. Now every time I look at my bedroom wall, I see the ticket that brought me to one of the greatest shows I have every been to. I can still remember the vivid memory of that wonderful night. I just hope that I can get many more tickets that will hold such wonderful memories.
