Healthy living support group! AKA dieters anonymous

Sooo, how many of you have ever gone on a diet? And then how many of you have ever fallen "off the horse" so to speak? Isn't it obnoxious? Do you ever feel frustrated after eating 101 celery sticks for a full week and just watched the pounds on your darn scale rise instead of fall? Are you someone who can sit next to a person eating cake and you gain weight while they stay the same?

I decided I wanted a hang out/support group for dieters/followers of healthy lifestyles; to discuss what is currently working for you and what is full of bullhonkey!

Diets I have tried

So far I have tried Weight Watchers, The Southbeach Diet, and The Primal Blueprint.

At the moment I am on the Primal Blueprint diet. I am finding I feel pretty darn good on that diet, but I am worried it will not be sustainable when I go back to my full time job and don't have access to a refridgerator/freezer/microwave/stove to make a meal. Some of the recipes I have tried on that diet have been pretty tasty, and a few have seriously flopped (turnips do NOT make a good substitute for French Fries, I don't care what you say!)

I enjoyed the Southbeach diet too, but found I plateaued pretty hard on that one, and just stopped losing weight.

Personally, I have had success with Weight Watchers, but find it to be MISERABLE. I hated counting "points" and was always hungry, headachey, and shaky. It also resulted in a crabby Daria...Sooo, since a crabby Daria is no fun, I am not going to be doing that diet again any time soon.

AAANNNNDDD Open!

So to start this thread off, I wanted to post my latest find that makes me oodles of happy in the 115 degree heat this summer.

Artic Zero Ice cream! There are 150 caleries per PINT! It has no dairy (and I am seriously allergic to dairy so I can have it woohoo!) gluten free, and fat free. I have NO CLUE what is in this stuff, but considering it's not really ice cream, and not fattening...I am in love! Now no, it is not as good as real ice cream...BUUUTTT, it does the trick when I need to satisfy that ice cream craving. Sometimes I stick a little blue agave nectar on it to act like a syrup and sweeten it a tad without adding oodles of carbs or sugars to it.

Here's a link Arctic Zero

Hello? Anyone? Buller? Buller?

x-cutie-x-pie-x 08-04-2011 12:22 AM

-waves- I personally haven't tried any serious diets, but I've told myself a few down to cut down on things here and there every so often. My latest goal is to drink more water!

But that ice cream up there sounds amazing, especially because I'm lactose intolerant and I love ice cream ;__;

DariaMorgendorfer 08-04-2011 12:31 AM

Oohhh you'll like this ice cream then! Just add a bit of syrup if it's not sweet enough for you:) It's sweet enough for me though:)

x-cutie-x-pie-x 08-04-2011 12:33 AM

I'm tempted, hehe. Oooh syrup sounds good~ I guess you could always add a sugar substitute too? But I've heard those are just as bad as the actual thing. D:

I like blue agave nectar! It tastes like honey and has a low glycemic index;)

I had never been a diet in the beginning, I stayed well enough in the 90lbs range but of course... after I went into female problems. I guess I started to benge on food. After I noticed this when I weighed myself at 140lbs, I stopped eating a lot of foods completely. I took One a Day diet pills, Trimspa, Alli, etc. I worked hard in Gym Class and worked overtime on the treadmill when I wanted to. If I got tired of that, I went to Tae Bo and Tae Bo Elite Boot Camp.

I do not follow any food regime. I'm not particularly attracted to Weight watchers or any time of company that sets a diet here or there. For me, I find it easy to just eat when I want to. Lately, I only eat one or two things a day. I move around a lot if I find myself sitting too much. And from all this, I am now 120lbs.

Now I take Slim Quick diet pills. They actually do work! And the caffiene in them won't make you jittery or vomity like Trim spa and the others do. And it doesn't have any side affects, it works with you. But the herbal one of SQ doesn't work as well as the caffiene and the non-caffiene. If you guys ever want to try them. xD It also comes with a food recipe and what to eat, what time you should eat, blah blah. I don't follow that either. I lose weight faster eating the foods I like since I'm a nit-picker anyway and I only eat till I'm full and I don't eat past 7pm if I can help it. That and I've never had a passion for food, so its easier for me to do it this way.

DariaMorgendorfer 08-04-2011 02:25 AM

You know, I've never tried diet pills. I don't know why...Maybe fear that they'd make me a jittery mess since I am already susceptible to getting shaky.

I really like this primal diet I'm on. I avoid carbs as much as possible, most beans, and eat a lot of nuts, fruits, meat and veggies. It's actually a pretty easy diet as long as you have access to a fridge...Which I may not have as of next week. And of course, that makes me nervous as I want to keep up with this "lifestyle" but don't know if it will be possible if I am commuting from location to location....SAD!

I understand.
For me, I tried a lot of diet pills before I went to SlimQuick.

Alli does work and burns the fat right out of you but there's a ehhhk factor. It's kinda TMI, I don't know if anyone wants to know. Trim Spa is TOO extreme with the caffiene inside their diet pills and you'll find yourself shaking, not able to sleep, wanting to throw up and light headed. There's also one called Xeno something, they taste horrible. One day is kinda like that too.

SQ is good for me since its balanced and I also drink Dr. Pepper for sugar and caffiene when I can get it since my sugar level is always below 30. Which is horrible because I feel tired all the time and when the monthly female time comes around, I'm just as dead as a door nail. lol

Vegetable and fruit diet is a good one. I tried it but it gives you too much water gain, I couldn't handle it.
I love Salmon though!

Just for the routine recipes and all those things... I could never keep up with it. I don't see how the ones that can, can. But its awesome that you guys can do it that way.

Here's the website for the diet I am doing....It's not just fruits/veggies, it's also meat and nuts. Although peanuts are not on the diet...The theories are to eat like the caveman did...So they would probably had tree nuts but not ground nuts as they were hunters and gathers. So today I found out that 2 of the schools I work at have salad bars. I tried one out, it was kinda lacking in protein. I may bring my own canned tuna or chicken to make that a little more filling.

i did not know turnips could be subsituted for french fries!
but i do use sweet potatoes and bake them to fill the french fry craving.

DariaMorgendorfer 08-21-2011 01:56 AM

I actually like sweet potato fries better than regular french fries! They taste sooo much better!

DariaMorgendorfer 08-22-2011 03:31 AM

The best thing about dieting, is being allowed to "cheat". I have been super good all week, so I went out to eat tonight and was able to enjoy my snickerdoodle cookie guilt free:)

DariaMorgendorfer 08-26-2011 04:34 AM

I tried a weird kinda squash tonight. Called a Kabocha squash. It was kinda cool! Next time I will totally add butter, cinnamon and agave nectar to it!
