FireOnix 08-22-2011 03:40 AM

aws fish are good. Ive got some mahi mahi burgers that are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. I'm trying to be a veggy about a month ago I was a omnivore.

and I know some veggies who insist that fish isn't really meat. I'm not sure if that's a basic understanding so even though I know vegetarian means only vegetables I'm not sure if that's suppose to include fish or not....

Cherry Who? 08-22-2011 03:50 AM

If you eat fish but are otherwise vegetarian, that's called pescatarian. :)

FireOnix 08-22-2011 04:07 AM

hmm...I see. then there are a lot of fake vegetarians out there

Cherry Who? 08-22-2011 06:16 AM

What do you mean by fake vegetarian?

Algas Soleado 08-22-2011 03:16 PM

They're not fake vegetarians, it's jus a sub-group of vegetarian. And technically, I'm a pesco-lacto-vegetarian but it's too Lon to say and most people don't know what it means so I just say vegetarian. If they ask specifics, I tell specifics. :)

----------

And yes, fish are meat. I just don't care.

Cherry Who? 08-22-2011 10:13 PM

Yeah, I'm lacto-ovo-vegetarian. But it's pretty common for the inclusion of eggs and dairy products to be allowed in vegetarianism, so I never feel the need to specify unless someone asks. When I first went vegetarian I was kind of pescatarian. I thought about it for a long time, but I just can't personally feel right eating fish. But if I ate something and then later found out it had fish in it I wouldn't be as upset as if I'd found out it had, say, chicken in it. I don't have tons and tons of empathy for fish, but I just don't like eating anything that ever had thoughts and feelings.

Cardinal Biggles 08-23-2011 06:21 AM

Oh good, I'm glad to see an active, permanent place for the veggie inclined to gather on here.

Algas Soleado 08-23-2011 12:41 PM

Oh, whoops, I forgot eggs. So. I'm a pesca-lacto-ovo-vegetarian.
...We all understand why I don't say that every time, right?

FireOnix 08-23-2011 03:09 PM

I guess I only mean fake because I've meet a number of people who call them selves vegetarians but still eat fish, you just said they're not really vegetarians...

Cherry Who? 08-23-2011 06:14 PM

Probably because most people don't know what pescatarians are. When I told my mom I was going pescatarian she thought I was converting to a religion... So it's much easier to tell people you're vegetarian and then only mention the inclusion of fish if they ask or if it matters (like if they will be providing your food). Or they might not know the term themselves, even. It's not "fake," it's just not the correct term for one reason or another.

FireOnix 08-23-2011 11:42 PM

hmm ok

Algas Soleado 08-24-2011 12:30 AM

I consider myself vegetarian. I may only fall in a semi-vegetarian sub group, but why should it matter? Maybe I'll just tell I'm the platypus of the veggie world.

hummy 08-24-2011 04:52 AM

well i love y'all no matter how pure a viggie you are or aren't.

FireOnix 08-24-2011 05:49 AM

it doesn't really matter

have any of you heard of fruitarian? I'm not trying to get yelled at here but it sounds made up...at least the way it was explained to me. according to the girl who was telling me about it she can only eat fruit that's fallen off the tree on it's own. it seems to me that
1: fruit isn't enough to keep anyone going as a soul source of food.
2: anyone who would try it would spend a lot of time on the toilet
and 3: a good chunk of fruit that has gone long enough to fall off the tree or bush is either rotten or way over ripe

Cherry Who? 08-24-2011 07:24 AM

Link.

Algas Soleado 08-24-2011 09:41 PM

I think either she hasn't researched her own diet or she's using it to cover an eating disorder. It's actually pretty common to mask it as some form of vegetarianism but it's still not healthy. :/
Or maybe she thinks that trees can cry. And if that's the case, I hope she becomes a plant murderer for her own health. haha

FireOnix 08-25-2011 01:08 AM

at least I'm not the only one who thinks it sounds off.

I did actually look it up after she started talking about it but when I tried to talk to her about it some more she shut down and got kind of stereotypical...

hummy 08-25-2011 02:53 AM

FireOnix ~~ i think number two is the biggie.
you would ahve to spend a lot of time on the toilet 'takin' care of business!'.
