I love how you guys swooped in just in time.

Vanora 08-23-2014 06:24 PM

The power of K-pop calls to us.

Amane 08-23-2014 06:27 PM

There was mention of K-pop, therefore you were summoned.

Vanora 08-23-2014 06:34 PM

Yes, it's only a natural response.

Amane 08-23-2014 07:01 PM

It happens to me IRL. XDD

Vanora 08-23-2014 07:32 PM

Really?
It hasn't happened to me IRL. >.<

Amane 08-23-2014 07:40 PM

It has happened to me IRL once or twice. Maybe three times. It's magical. Sadly, we didn't keep in touch.

Vanora 08-23-2014 07:49 PM

Oh, well that's unfortunate.

Amane 08-23-2014 07:52 PM

Oh well. I can't friend IRL.

VANORA. PiM! GET READY. SOMEONE HAS ASKED ABOUT K-POP.

Not really? I mean, I listen to, uh, songs in Japanese... but those are mostly from anime. I like how they sound, I just have no idea what they are saying. [gonk]

That and it was to point out that I don't really have any prior knowledge of anything that isn't directly available to me. Like I know Japanese songs because of anime... but I don't know anything about Korea. [oops] (Apart from the issues that the U.S. has with them.) The U.S. doesn't really provide foreign entertainment, even less so if it's not in English.

But my new roommate is Korean (but from Cambodia) and I wanted to, well try to impress, I guess. [oops]

Vanora 08-23-2014 08:34 PM

I changed my signature! Worst edit I've ever done. /sobs/ But ugh, I couldn't help myself. ;;

Amane 08-23-2014 08:34 PM

It's super easy to find translations in several languages in the K-pop fandom. For the songs and for the shows. If you want to get the message of the song without subtitles, though, I know a few.

It's cool. That's where I started. Couldn't tell you half of anything about Korea except the north. You learn if you grow obsessed.
I live in the US. I know exactly what you're talking about.

Vanora 08-23-2014 08:44 PM

The only Korean I know is how to write my biases names [cry]

Amane 08-23-2014 08:50 PM

I learn the words to songs and look up ones I see a lot.

Vanora 08-23-2014 08:52 PM

There are certain Korean words that I like saying out loud, even if they make no sense when said by itself. lol.

Wrenji-chan 08-23-2014 09:15 PM

That's fair. I only know bits of Japanese because of anime. And I know a few exchange students that visited my high school said they learned English by watching English movies.

Vanora 08-23-2014 09:42 PM

My dad learned English by watching TV shows and movies too.

Amane 08-23-2014 11:20 PM

I'm horrible at following spoken Korean if I don't already know what they're saying.

Nola 08-25-2014 12:24 AM

I has returned!

Wrenji-chan 08-25-2014 12:30 AM

So... does Amallama have any recommendations? I'm not too picky when it comes to music. [lol]

Amane 08-25-2014 01:42 AM

Hm~ I'll offer up four.
"Fantastic Baby" by Big Bang, a dancey song that never dies out.
"Happiness" by Red Velvet, a girl group debut that's getting really popular. I love it!
"MTBD" (Mental Breakdown, A.K.A. Menboong) by CL. She's part of 2NE1, and this is a rap solo. This song is my jam. I love when CL raps.
"Symptoms" by SHINee, a slower pretty song. I like to sing along to it all passionately as if I can sing. [rofl]

I know you said you're not picky, but if you'd rather hear a band with instruments and one vocalist, K-pop isn't your thing. We have a tiny bit of that, and I can tell you those groups, but I don't follow them closely. Ask PiM! and Vanora. (I'm sure they'll swoop in with their own recommendations once they see this.)

Remember, you can always browse through the pages of the K-poppers Unite thread in this forum if you're looking for songs or groups! There are so, so many. K-pop used to be dominated by a few groups, but now there are heaps of successful debuts every year.

This concludes another K-pop novel post in a series!

Wrenji-chan 08-25-2014 02:29 AM

No, I wasn't looking for solo-artists. I knew that K-Pop is mostly bands. Actually, is seem to me that most places apart from the USA prefers groups to solo-artists.
