Mine too, chicken lo mein is my absolute favorite! It might just be Alberta though? Cause that's where I am.

 I hate ginger but I love ginger beef. When my mom makes it I tend to pick away all the ginger, but the beef always tastes so good.

Haha yeah, I had never had it before coming here! Its my boyfriends favorite...and we're trying to eat a little healthier and less processed overall but we don't want to give up good food...so we're trying to make things ourselves more and find healthy options to a lot of stuff as well.
I know chinese food doesn't exactly scream "healthy" but damnit, I love it. What's life if all I have to eat are celery sticks? I refuse to go that route. XD

I have my special chow mein recipe. Do you like watching YouTube clips of chefs cooking? *I love Gordon Ramsay*

Well authentic Chinese food is pretty healthy. We're a Chinese family and the dishes my mom cooks are not as greasy and a lot healthier than the stuff you get outside. But I really admire that you guys are cooking your own food! When I was by myself for a bit, I legit ate out every day and it was terrible for my body and my wallet.

Exchange - indeed, but even home-cooked chinese food uses a lot of oils and soy. At least the multitudes of recipes I've found do. And those aren't exactly healthy things. xD
Oh man, eating out that often is sooo baaadddd! So hard not to though, not having to work for it and it tastes great? Yespls.
spunky - I personally don't watch cooking on youtube but I do watch a lot of food network! :)

Hahaha, my mom makes an effort to cut down on oil because she's trying to get our family to eat healthy, so maybe that's why I think Chinese food is a lot healthier. But soy, lol yes. I have a friend who keeps a bottle of soy sauce next to her with every meal xD
And it truly is, cause there's barely any effort involved. You either go into the restaurant, sit down, and wait for food to come. Or you stay at home, make a phone call, and wait for food to come. ><

Oooh, I have never seen a forum like this ever before on a social site until today...and I must say I like it!
I may add a bit of information to this forum. A way to decrease the fat in frying or roasting would be to use Frylite instead of any oil there is available...
though Frylite may not be available globally...I'm sure there is a different equivalent in different parts of the world.

Hummy - I've honestly never had sweet potato fries (or in general) in my life! I'm curious to try them!
spunky - Aww that sucks! At least you have internet so you still have pretty much the same access to shows etc. I love diners, drive-ins and dives. :D
Exchange - Make her use light soy! Hahaha
Infamous - Well glad to be of service! :D I've been getting more and more into cooking and alternatives for healthier stuff overall. I don't mind the occasional sinful indulgence either ;D Nice tip! I recently found something on pinterest for making your own cooking oil at home. Its not really a "healthy alternative" but more of a "less chemicals" alternative.

The linked article on 5 reasons not to use commrecial cooking spray got me nearly gagging D: Thankfully our family doesn't use commercial cooking spray, but we eyeball the olive oil a lot so it's really hit or miss. I'm going to see if I can get my mom to switch to the mist idea.
And I'll try, Paprika. Buy her a big jar of light soy.

AFAIK, yes. Most pre-mixed seasonings do. But its always super easy to replicate your own. :)
I can help you find one if you need.
