Sweet potato fries are heavenly :drool:
And I like to believe they're a bit healthier than normal fries too, although the frying really doesn't put them on the top of the health food list.

They both have their own health benefits actually, neither is better than the other. :)
Quote:
Vitamins and minerals in sweet potato vs regular potato
Sweet potatoes and regular potatoes share some nutritional similarities, yet also share a host of unique features. Like potatoes, sweet potatoes are a very good source of vitamin C, and a good source of copper, fiber, vitamin B6, and potassium. While potatoes are a good source of manganese, sweet potatoes are a very good source of this trace mineral and a good source of iron. See Table 1 for a review of the nutrients in which sweet potato is concentrated.

I made a cold Pasta salad yesterday. It was the best!
I used chicken, red pepper, paprika, eggplant, tomato, capers, green onions and pine nuts. <3
My fiancee is out of town so I don't have to eat vegetarian at the moments, so there was loads of chicken in there. XD
I have to say I'm a pretty good cook, I can make simple things like this but I can also cook for a large crowd and I love it. <3

Moon - Anything in particular you like most?
Exchange - I've never had purple potatoes! I know fingerling potatoes can come in various colors though. They are usually used for fancy schmancy stuff. XD
iSpam - Aha, is your fiancee's vegetarianism a choice or a dietary necessity? Like did they choose to be veggie or did they get forced into it due to some health issues. RE: crowd cooking, that is something I haven't done so far! I'm nervous. Just cooked for myself and the boyfriend and cooked for his momma and her hubby once too. A few times I've made deserts and just gave them out to his parents (we dont live close to my family). I wanna make pulled pork for them sometime. XD

It's a choice, she is kind of brainwashed by documentary's and images of how the animals get slaughtered.
Some of the video's are pretty shocking though, like how cows get a giant needle pierced through their brain. This is meant to 'reduce the amount of suffering they go through. But what happens in a lot of cases is that the cows are scared, and try to get loose so they move, and the needle just keeps piercing. It's a pretty nasty death if you ask me.
And so is Halal slaughtering, those animals choke to death in their own blood. o.x;
Nevertheless, this does not prevent me from eating meat. It's just too damn tasty.
And she was a Vegan before we met, but now she is eating and drinking dairy products again, and eggs and so on. So there is a litte progress. ;)
And crowd cooking.. it's not all that hard, if you're satisfied about what you cooked you should just serve it to everyone. And sure, some people won't like what you made. But we're all different in so many ways, the same goes for taste. And every time you do cook, and get feedback (negative or positive) you can use that and adjust. C:

I'm not sure if the ones my mom bought were fingerling potatoes (they looked like little fingers, though...) but they were indeed purple and tasted a lot sweeter than normal potatoes. They were so sweet my mom took a couple and made smoothies with them. I told my friends and they think I'm a weirdo now for drinking purple potato smoothies, but it was actually really good. :eager:

Exchange - that is so cool xD I wasn't saying that yours were fingerling, just saying those were the only ones I had personally heard of that were purple! Also hah, nothing wrong with a healthy smoothie!
Spam - aha, isn't organic meat usually slaughtered more humanely as well as not given antibiotics etc? Maybe if it is, she can eat that meat. :P

It is, to a degree. It's still pretty inhumane. I've tried convincing her, but she won't accept it.
Other than that, organic meat is like, two or three times more expensive here. ;0;

A caper is a salty little thing... uhhh -links-

The salted and pickled caper bud (also called simply capers) is often used as a seasoning or garnish. Capers are a common ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine, especially Cypriot, Italian and Maltese. The mature fruit of the caper shrub are also prepared similarly, and marketed as caper berries.

I don't recall being a fan, but its not something I've had in a long long long time. So I can't say if my taste for them has changed or not.

They're sour/salty little taste makers! They go with a lot of salads, and pasta's! I use them in all kinds of recipes. C:
Thank you for the compliment, Hummy! It's always nice to have your recipes complimented. :3
---------- Post added 07-06-2012 at 11:04 PM ----------
Oh that's another thing, change of taste.
As for the recipe I used, I never like capers, or eggplants for years.
But lately, they have been two of my favorite ingredients.
It's weird how your prefrence of taste changes a lot, there's so many thing I used to like, or despise! And it's the total opposite now. I used to love oisters, they were actually my favorite. But if I eat one now, it's like I just took a sip of ocean water. D:

I think it's a mental thing, when I was little I ate everything! And then one day I made a new friend, and stayed for dinner at his house. He didn't eat anything, so all his parents made him were fries and hamburgers. And those happened to be my favorite! I was so jealous, so I started telling my parents I didn't like a lot of vegetables and fish. And and after a while, I really didn't like them. I made myself believe that.. somehow.
