haha, erm... I was thinking... sort of like arm pieces you can wear... or eye pieces you can wear... that if you have the training, you can do something with and if not, then nothing... or disastrous results

But they download into the program itself to wreak havoc, and they appear different/have aliases within the game. That's who our team is being sent after to find, the people within the game. If they can find them within the game, they could like...track them to their download site or something. Edit: I agree with the different clothing style/weapon style thing. |

Mobius' idea works or It could be a virus that wasn't purposely put into the program. It developed naturally and maybe the program was meant for something else. Now they're the team that has to fix it up to it can be used for its original purpose. |

I have a hard time imagining a virus or how to fight a virus... would need some pointers about how to go about that... what it could look like and how to fight it... what are it's capabilities and weaknesses...

In the Tron work, the virus manifested itself as actually beings. But they only existed within the game, and could muck about with the program itself to cause glitches and stuff. Like causing people to not be able to get out of the game.
Maybe this virus like...attacks people at random. It attacks their program-self, and messes with it's coding. So when they are logging out of the game, they're addicted. Like they feel like real life is the game, and the game is their actual, real life. And it's causing serious issues. Maybe the original purpose of the program was to embue world peace, allowing people to meet and converse on a risk-free arena where everyone was equal? They could dress and look and be exactly who they wanted to be, free of judgement, and that's why it spread to the general public so quickly? |

I was just saying world piece because I feel like if it spread to the general population, it would be more widely accepted. Though if it was a military-based program and was infiltrated and infected with viruses, the team could be an elite team built by home-land security, which is why there's so few of them (to keep intel low).
I ALSO really love that idea of the 'Downloads' being a true reflection of the person. That's an awesome idea. I see them being like, bamfs in the game, and while they're downloaded they're under intense watch by the Establishment. But once they're out of the program they live 'normal' lives. I feel like they'd only be Downloaded for like, eight-hour shifts, like a work day. And have weekends off unless they Establishment really needed them for something. |
Shifts would be a good idea... and it would become more apparent over time if they were reluctant to leave.
If it was a military based program, then having them be an elite team would make more sense. We should figure out the purpose of the program.
