You go back and look at it a month or a year later, and you'll want to edit it. For writing and content I bet. I don't want to put anything out there where others can read until it's been polished good and well. It should still be good when I reread it.

Whisper Invictus 10-23-2014 04:26 AM

Fuu-chan, I loooooove the pirate look!!

MoodyBats 10-23-2014 07:22 AM

@Kat
Funny thing is I won't feel like I need to edit it until after I finish it.
once it is done, then I start getting ideas on what I should have done so then I am constantly
going back and editing it.

That is what I have been doing with my fanfic XD
And I can't decide on one of my characters' eye color. [lol]

Thank you whisper.

Kat Dakuu 10-23-2014 07:08 PM

I thought you said you didn't edit.

MoodyBats 10-23-2014 07:11 PM

Not until after I publish it on the site I am on.
Sorry, I am very vague. Lack of sleep. [lol]

Usually, I'm in a hurry to get feedback.
As well as when I first write it, I don't see it as a rough draft and I think it looks fine.

I also have a grammar app which underlines any mistakes in red and the red line irks me so I have to fix it.

But I don't start to get ideas until after it is up so then I am constantly adding new things. You know?
Plus, I can't decide on my characters eye color so I am constantly changing things. v.v

Kat Dakuu 10-23-2014 07:52 PM

I guess I understand. But I don't get your distinction about rough drafts. If you edit after, then it's a draft and the next one is a draft. They can't all be the complete work.

MoodyBats 10-23-2014 08:19 PM

I don't consider them as a rough draft because I didn't plan it out
to be a rough draft. I just mainly wanted to get it done. XD

Kat Dakuu 10-23-2014 09:23 PM

Eh...it's still rough if it's rough....

MoodyBats 10-23-2014 09:45 PM

Eh X3. I am weird and still don't think it is since I don't
do much editing. [XD]

Kat Dakuu 10-24-2014 01:44 AM

I guess you would call it polishing, not editing then.

MoodyBats 10-24-2014 06:45 PM

Yes! Polishing that is exactly what it is.
Mostly because I hate seeing my grammar tell me how many errors it has, and I have to fix it right away
or else it will anoy me forever. [rofl]

Kat Dakuu 10-24-2014 07:58 PM

I can worry over syntax for hours. I'll read through so many times perfecting it.

MoodyBats 10-24-2014 08:01 PM

My grammarly app on my chrome notifies me with how many
errors I have. i did some polishing over both chapters. Chapter 1 I had like..50 errors. So I had to fix those.
And now chapter 1 is 3077 words. [XD]

Kat Dakuu 10-24-2014 08:36 PM

You seriously can't just listen to the computer's idea of grammar though. It's not always right and there are many perfect times to break the rules!

MoodyBats 10-24-2014 08:39 PM

I have forgotten all i learned in school on grammar
so it has a better idea than I do.
In my head..well..there is nothing due to my memory is like a strainer. Things go in but never stay in.

Like this morning I remembered an old song I wanna listen to[although I didn't know the band name, lyrics since all I could remember
was the instrumental part] and not even 5 minutes later I forgot the sound of it.

Kat Dakuu 10-24-2014 08:48 PM

I don't remember remember everything they say in school, but reading is one of the best ways to get a handle on grammar. If you want a really technical view that's best for paper writing than creative fiction (but a nice place to start), the book Elements of Style by strunk and white is very helpful.

that's normal though...

Wolf Empress Paine 10-24-2014 09:01 PM

Hey y'all. How's today or tonight or evening....going for y'all?

MoodyBats 10-24-2014 09:08 PM

@Kat
I will look into it for when I renew my library card.
I haven't been to the library in like..5 years. [lol]

Hello Paine dear, how are you?
It is going rather well for me right now. Just browsing DA, doing some rawing
and of course writing.

Wolf Empress Paine 10-24-2014 09:10 PM

Fuu:
That good and sounds fun.
I am doing fine today. Been in a freak cleaning mood.
I even swept and mopped under the stove and the fridge.

Kat Dakuu 10-24-2014 09:12 PM

Hey Paine. It's good for me. I'm just busy editing chapter four of my fic.

I hope the library has it, fuu. The nearest library to me has like...nothing.

Wolf Empress Paine 10-24-2014 09:14 PM

Kat: That sounds like a never ending task.
Mopping my floors feels like theres no point in mopping them. Can't tell I mopped them

T_T

Kat Dakuu 10-24-2014 09:24 PM

it's not never ending! D: I'll be done in a few days!
haha. My mom needs new floors. They're dingy no matter what.

MoodyBats 10-24-2014 09:25 PM

@Paine
Those places needed to be cleaned anyways. [lol]

I only clean when I am stressed out. [sweat]

@Kat
Hopefully. If not I will check out a book
that looks good to help on my writing.

Kat Dakuu 10-24-2014 09:27 PM

I hate cleaning. I don't do it if I haven't been ordered to.

I updated my third post of this thread with a list of helpful books and websites on writing. I probably have more bookmarked elsewhere too.

MoodyBats 10-24-2014 09:30 PM

@Kat
Awesome! I will have to check them out. :3
