WHAT? Real bones!?!?! EEWW!! Sickos... [lol]

Linnea 09-27-2013 05:18 PM

well it was more than just bones, it was like cadavers that were cut in halves (horizontally and vertically) and all kinds of other ways so that people could see inside a human body. sounds gnarly

Kirin Rosenbaum 09-27-2013 05:42 PM

*wanders in* Hello all. How are you all doing?

EWWW YUCK! Gnarly indeed, I think I'll pass on that...

Hi Kirin, not much round these parts. Should be doing college algebra homework and washing laundry.

Jeannesha 09-27-2013 10:10 PM

I saw pictures of it.

I know that there was a huge uproar about it, but I thought it looked really cool.
Beautiful in a way.

Linnea 09-27-2013 10:15 PM

i mean, how often would someone be able to see something like that ya know? kinda cool in it's own gnarly way

dessertdesiert 09-28-2013 01:41 AM

I love algebra....

A couple years ago they had an exhibit with donated cadavers the way you guys have been describing. We took the kids for an outing and saw it. All of them were 'donated' bodies from China and apparently had legal paperwork. They had bodies posed in different athletic poses showing the different layers of muscle. They also had displays where they had the body almost shaved in very paper thin slices vertically and horizontally so you could see what the body looked layer by layer. It was quite the experience and it was done in a tasteful manner where like one person said you probably wouldn't of thought it was 'real' if you weren't told otherwise.

The whole family enjoyed it. Even the 'sensitive' area they had screened off as it dealt with unborn babies and showed fetuses at different developments. It's sad to think that those are tiny little lives that didn't get to be, but still amazing getting to see first hand how life performs its little miracles.

I would highly recommend it. It sounds weird coming from me as I'm usually rather squeamish and would be that person who would faint at the sight of blood...this was different. They preserved everything and displayed it in a way that I really didn't find it bothered me.

Jeannesha 09-28-2013 02:00 AM

That sounds like the exhibit I was thinking of, Izumi.

I would have loved to see it in person.

I would have loved to see it.

Izumi 09-28-2013 02:18 AM

Ohh if it comes nearby to where you live definitely go to see it. It is amazing.

Speaking of which...I haven't checked to see if anything interesting has been on exhibit at the local museum. It would be fun to do another family trip. I'm just waiting until finances aren't so tight. :/ I think the next big outing will be to see "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs 2". My stepdaughter and I really want to go see it...

Jeannesha 09-28-2013 02:26 AM

I really liked Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
It was a funny flick. Generally sequels aren't as good though.

I love to visit museums.

Aganab 09-28-2013 02:31 AM

Um, hi. I hope you guys don't mind me joining the thread!

I actually went to see with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs with my school and I hated it, not because it was a bad movie, but because I pretty much had nightmares about giant food coming to life and trying to kill me after I watched it.

Linnea 09-28-2013 02:37 AM

whoa that's pretty crazy! i think you are in the right thread then [lol]

Aganab 09-28-2013 02:44 AM

AND we have a gigantic walk-through banana as a tourist attraction in Australia, which didn't exactly help calm my fears [lol]

Linnea 09-28-2013 02:48 AM

i don't think i realized that bananas were so big over there (and i didn't mean that as a pun either [lol] )

Izumi 09-28-2013 02:50 AM

Interesting tourist attractions for sure.....why a banana of all things, though?

Aganab 09-28-2013 02:56 AM

I'm pretty sure the banana is near a banana plantation, though, when it comes to Australia, we have huge statues of pretty much everything. There's the Big Pineapple, Big Merino, there's even the Big Poo. There's literally a Wikipedia page called "Australia's big things".

Linnea 09-28-2013 03:01 AM

the big poo?? O_o.... i wonder if Drop Bear: has seen that! that seems right up his alley [rofl]

Aganab 09-28-2013 03:14 AM

Apparently it's a huge tourist attraction, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had

Linnea 09-28-2013 03:17 AM

well... i don't think we have anything like that here... lighthouses and lobsters and the occasional moose [lol]

Aganab 09-28-2013 03:26 AM

Oh come on! Moose are awesome! I would give anything to have moose in Australia.

Linnea 09-28-2013 03:32 AM

i went white water rafting last month and we saw a bull moose and cow moose, we also saw three bald eagles. i had seen moose before but never bald eagles. so cool

Aganab 09-28-2013 03:42 AM

Bald eagles are pretty awesome.
