I'm really bad with writing french but I can speak it fairly well.

I have a weird way of speaking Chinese...because my parents grew up speaking different dialects, Cantonese and Tee chow, they decided to speak to us kids in Mandarin, because they're both fairly fluent in it and because it is more widely used overall...so more practical...
Thing is though, while I can maintain conversations in Mandarin and understand most everyday talk I speak it in a Cantonese accent...often people assume I speak Cantonese because of my Mandarin speaking accent...it's kind of embarassing to tell them that even though my mum identifies as Cantonese and my dad also knows it, that I only know a few terms...not nearly enough to being remotely fluent. I only know the terms that everybody seems to know in French like Bonjour, Au Revior, and those French food names, like croissant and creme brulee. If I knew enough to say a sentence I'd sound like a foreigner. |

Hm, it's like I speak with a Beijing-ish accent despite neither of my parents having ever been there before nor speak with such a heavy accent as I do, and people will just assume that I'm from China. lol That's so true! When I was in Beijing briefly for about five days due to a conference that we were hosting, (though why the heck we had to go to Beijing to host a conference when we're from Taiwan I don't know...would've made things a lot more easier here than there [sweat]) I listened and interacted with so many locals that by the time we left I was even dreaming in Beijing accents. I'm actually glad the event js over. It's the only time people get really active, which is good, but most of them just run off to some event threads and gather prizes but that's all they want. and I can't keep up with that on my tablet [ninja] and the naked nation is empty and it needs its nudity |
