Lacrosse, in some parts of Britain, is claimed to have been invented by the faeries.

The Native Americans had a version they played, as well.

You can actually use the net as a weapon, much like in Jai Alai, and I think the sport developed as a pastime to play with sticks made for throwing rocks at enemies. Or they played it with the severed heads of slain enemies or whatever, one of that kind of sports.

Either way, it's an early sort of extreme sport, because you can be hurt pretty easily by the flying ball, and it takes mad skills to play it well.

Field hockey is like a sort of low-budget, on-the-ground sort of game in comparison.

I had a chance to play on a lacrosse team in school once, but I wouldn't be there all season, so I had to turn it down. It's probably for the best, I might have gotten my head flung off or something.

[gonk] Heads? ;_;

VeraDark 07-16-2014 02:37 PM

Yeah, severed heads. Like polo, back in the day. You know, on horseback, enemie's head in a sack, everyone knocking it about with sticks?

Good, clean fun for everyone!

Lexadis 07-16-2014 04:07 PM

Vera please [gonk]

VeraDark 07-16-2014 04:23 PM

Sorry. <_<;

I didn't invent any sports, mind you, I just know a little of their history...

>_>;

^_^;

Lexadis 07-16-2014 04:29 PM

Nah it's okay [lol] Not upset here at all [cool]
My dad used to play with skulls >_>

VeraDark 07-16-2014 04:32 PM

I... I want to play with skulls...

[squee]

Lexadis 07-16-2014 04:43 PM

EEEEWWW.
I mean, they're humans, yeah.
But well, they are half decayed.
Must stink rotten balls.

VeraDark 07-16-2014 04:45 PM

Bleach is relatively cheap...

I hear a handy ant hill can do wonders, too.

*stops this line of thought, before it gets too grotesque for anyone to stand anymore*

Lexadis 07-16-2014 04:46 PM

What would you do with bleach? Clean the skull? [ninja]

VeraDark 07-16-2014 04:51 PM

Cleans, and degreases!

^_^

Q U E E N 07-16-2014 05:42 PM

Q U E E N 07-16-2014 11:40 PM

*runs around with cherry icee*

8'D

Thanks Vera [lol]

Antagonist 07-17-2014 04:11 AM

Ooh skulls. [eager]

Reminds me that I read in a book somewhere about some ancient civilization that keeps enemy heads in their house all over the place, and they use the tops of the skulls as cups and all...[ninja]

VeraDark 07-17-2014 07:40 AM

Oh yeah.

African headhunters use skulls as pillows.

If it's the skull of a loved one, they lash the lower jaw in place, as a respect thing. Enemy heads, they rip off the lower jaw and bash a hole in the side of the cranial cavity so they can eat the brain. They keep all the skulls.

When they're not eating their enemies, they drink cow's blood mixed with milk.

Awesome, huh?

And the cranial cap used as a bowl, that goes back thousands of years, and has been practiced in China, Tibet, etc.

I'm sure it started as a use for something that would otherwise be discarded, and later became symbolic, like, after people decided it wasn't the sort of thing a civilized person would do without some better reason than the fact that it makes a good bowl.

Drinking from the symbolic seat of all knowledge and wisdom is apparently an acceptable excuse these days. I'd do it just to drink from someone's head.

SuperZombiePotatoe 07-17-2014 07:48 AM

You know, I really love the conversations that you come across around here [yes]

VeraDark 07-17-2014 07:54 AM

Thank god I'm not the only one!

SuperZombiePotatoe 07-17-2014 08:10 AM

[hug]

Sometimes just watching as they escalate and/or fizzle out. So amusing [boogie]

Antagonist 07-17-2014 08:27 AM

Ooh, interesting. The civilization I read about wasn't African...I think it might have been Roman or Celts or something? I remembered it because there was a drawing with this guy and his wife in their house filled with dead people's heads. [XD]

Lexadis 07-17-2014 08:32 AM

Ancient people were crazy in a very uncivilized, inhuman manner [ninja]
Poor bones [cry] [XD]

SuperZombiePotatoe 07-17-2014 08:33 AM

Modern people are just as crazy [XP]

VeraDark 07-17-2014 08:40 AM

Yeah, except these days, you'd have to spend an outrageous amount of money on something like a skull bowl.

Back then, you just had to lop one off of someone, and make your own.

The economy has really turned to pooh since the old days...

Lexadis 07-17-2014 08:41 AM

Yeah, but in a more humane manner [XD]
Okay not very humanistic but not skulls and bones and burying babies and burning wives!

VeraDark 07-17-2014 08:45 AM

Oh, bad things still happen, but everyone tries to hide it now.

Hey, at least it's a step in the right direction, I say. One day, all will live in peace and safety, as soon as we get all of the world's leaders hooked on online MMO's.

Keep it virtual, I always say!
