only thing missing is the squirrels. You not such a fan of those, woody?

Woodlandnymph 01-10-2014 03:25 AM

Eh. Not really. They can be cute on occasion. I'll be positively giddy about any woodland critter though. Except skunks.

bunny?! Yes. bobcat?! Oh man.....

But I can imagine the fox and all his friends like anthropomorphized with little hats and scarves and then the adorable gets out of hand.

Kat Dakuu 01-10-2014 04:18 AM

you're so silly. I like foxes and squirrels the most. I can imagine all the animals with personalities. I came up with a list for the animals on campus and what they're like.

Woodlandnymph 01-10-2014 05:08 PM

Oh yeah? What animals do you have about campus? Lots of squirrels I bet.

I get really excited when I see animals/birds that you don't often see. I saw a ring neck pheasant a few weeks ago. He was super fancy. Then in the fall I saw two bobcats. Yesterday I saw an eagle sitting in a huge oak tree.

I'm really good at seeing raptors when I'm driving on the highway. They're usually sitting in a tree/on a post or a sign....and are pretty hard to spot. But for some reason my eye gets drawn to them.

Kat Dakuu 01-10-2014 06:40 PM

animals and birds need a separate notation? Aren't birds animals??

I notice raptors pretty easily too.

let's see. Back when I made that list, I was in Austin. There were squirrels, cats, pigeons, black birds, and some other animals I don't remember there.

Jeannesha 01-10-2014 11:09 PM

I like woodland creatures, but badgers?
Those guys are just plain MEAN!

We have turkey buzzards here...they're fun to watch. They'll stare a car down if there's a kill on the road they want.

Kat Dakuu 01-11-2014 12:43 AM

buzzards are kinda nasty though!

Woodlandnymph 01-11-2014 07:07 PM

No, they don't need separation.

Buzzards throw up on things that attack that, or other birds/creatures they perceive as threats. The more you know *tosses a glittery rainbow into the air*

Badgers are kinda...mean, but they're cute. I just think they're grumpy.
We had a lot of turkey vultures in my hometown, but here we've got tons of crows, which I love. A few ravens too down at one of the dams. Both birds I love.

Kat Dakuu 01-11-2014 07:18 PM

there were a lot of crows in santa fe. They became the animal we had the most of by the time I left. Before it was rabbits, and before that prairie dogs.

Woodlandnymph 01-11-2014 07:26 PM

Ooooh! We have little woodchucks that you see in the spring on the side of the highway, but nothing cool like prairie dogs. I see beavers a lot too when I go hiking. Which, always reminds me of the old school BBC Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe:

They're so scary! haha. The look like giant beaver tails with faces.

Kat Dakuu 01-11-2014 07:30 PM

prairie dogs aren't so cool. Nothing can ruin your lawn faster!

and yeah...wow those beaver's are creepy.

Jeannesha 01-11-2014 10:58 PM

The crows in Alaska are HUGE!

Kat Dakuu 01-11-2014 11:20 PM

isn't everything huge in alaska?

Jeannesha 01-11-2014 11:28 PM

I remember seeing some mosquitoes that looked like birds...

Kat Dakuu 01-12-2014 12:08 AM

I've heard that before.

Woodlandnymph 01-12-2014 01:14 AM

They're super creepy. If I want to make my mom laugh, I do my impression of them and walk around like they do in the movie.

Are you sure they're crows? They might be ravens. Ravens are huge...and awesome.

UHhh. Mosquitoes love me. I'm a warm person so they zoom right for me. >.<

Kat Dakuu 01-12-2014 01:17 AM

I saw a raven once. They really are huge. I was surprised by their impressive size.

Woodlandnymph 01-12-2014 01:39 AM

I love them. How the ruff up their feathers and how they kinda stare you down. That and their call. I think the biggest ravens I've ever seen were the ones at the Tower of London.

Kat Dakuu 01-12-2014 01:41 AM

that might be where I saw ravens. I remember one at...I don't know where it was, but it was in the UK. Not at the Tower of London.

Woodlandnymph 01-12-2014 01:46 AM

Were you up north? I dunno how far down south they go, but I don't think into your area. I've seen em in Oregon, Washington, New England....

Kat Dakuu 01-12-2014 01:48 AM

I only ever saw them in England.

Woodlandnymph 01-12-2014 01:52 AM

The two down the road from me made a nest under the bride by the dam. I'll see them popping their heads out to investigate, then one will land ontop and make a lot of noise.

Jeannesha 01-12-2014 02:49 AM

Mosquitoes are actually attracted by the carbon dioxide we breathe out...

Ravens are huge.

I think the grackles we have around here are like small ravens.
They look at you, and scold you....

Kat Dakuu 01-12-2014 03:17 AM

haha. Grackles do do that. I always liked them.

Woodlandnymph 01-12-2014 03:36 AM

I don't think we've got grackles over here.

You know what's a cool bird I wish we had? Magpies. I saw a bunch of them in Colorado.

We do have some neat ones seasonally. Baltimore Orioles...bluebirds, goldfinches are cute, um.... I dunno. Other birds.
