Hey Nola.
Your avi is adorable. |
:D Thanks. How have you been, Kat?
|
Alright. Bummed I have to work super early in the morning though.
You? |
I've been pretty decent. Working on improving mai life. Been going to therapy, trying to get my license and a job so I can move away from family and such.
|
Ugh. Now we have to post in this lame thread again.
|
Nola. i love that name. it's also one of my most favorite places!
https://gsyouth.files.wordpress.com/...ola2nomask.jpg |
Yeah.I made my name thinking I was unique and crap and then found out it was a name of a city xD
|
it just makes you that much cooler! and other than a really awesome city, i've never heard the name on a living being, so that's unique to me [yes]
|
Yas so I is still cools owo. I made an oc with the name. She is part fox and her wardrobe is styled after alice from alice madness returns xD I didn't realize that until I picked an outfit for her lols.
|
She's very cute Nola.
|
Nola always reminds me of nala from the lion king. >.>
|
Haha, is there a lion ear + tail outfit? Nola should put it on o.o
|
hey there, zephi! how are you?! where are you these days? :D
|
Hey Linn! I'm swamped with school work mostly xD On my last year and a half if everything works out correctly but I might tack on a minor, idk yet. In fact, I'm listening to some response to intervention training right now xD
How are you? What have you been up to? |
oh you're in school?? it has been a long time since we talked! so whatcha going for?? whatcha thinking for the minor?
i am also in school. i am just under halfway to getting my master's degree in psychology with applied behavior analysis concentration. actually, your training that you're listening too sounds an awful lot like the stuff i do for work (which is a similar to what i am getting my master's in) [yes] |
Yea I have been in 2 years now, started at UCF in fall 2014. Majoring in Art education, I want to be an art teacher :D but I haven't decided what grades I want to teach. Like I want to teach elementary to get the kids to love art early but I also haven't had a chance to work with middle school and they will be able to do more technical things. I might minor in ESOL because it would be valid if we moved to another state (wouldn't have to re-certify).
WOW! Masters Degree! GET IT GIRL! OMG, you're amazing. Nearly half way. Are you excited? Do you feel it getting closer :D I'm sure it is similar because it has a lot to do with Psycho-educational evaluation for students who might/might not have or exhibit special needs and how to help them. So yea, right up your alley. Well, depending on who you work with. Are you planning on working anywhere specific or what do you want to do with your degree? |
that is so cool, zephi! so proud of you!! i'd totally go for older grades so you can do more technical things, but that's just because i prefer older kids in general (like working with older and i even coach high schoolers) but either way that sounds like an amazing thing to get into and i wish i choose something less daunting [lol] i do like the science behind this field but it's not as creative [XD]
and thanks!! i will be more excited when it's like my last term lol i did get invited to join the honor society which is pretty sweet although i haven't decided yet. i'm going to school to become something called a board certified behavior analyst (bcba) but along with my master's i need 1500 hours of supervision and then i have to take a really friggin hard exam, buuut it's a certification that is good nationwide soooo there's that [lol] i'll be more excited once i finish my 1500 hours. once i get through with all those things, i wanted to move down south, new orleans area to be exact. i loved it there, and i can take my certification all over the place, even though some states require some additional training |
I love the how art/science/math are all intertwined. I mean, honestly science is like my secret love affair. When I took physics, man I was having so much fun. My mind was blown every day I think. I love that feeling, learning something completely new that lets you see things in a whole new way <3 I gotta find a way to give that feeling to the kids. There's a lot of regulations though and Florida took the stupid common core crap thing =.= they just wanted money. And out governor has been taking millions away from education and putting it straight into his pocket and these morons here re-elected him! GRRRR. I swear... So, idk, one day we may move to California so it would be nice to have the ESOL minor :P
Holy cannoli, that's a lot of hours. We only need to have 300 ESOL hours (working with english language learners specifically) and 2 internships. One internship is a semester of 2 days a week, all day at school and the last is 5 days a week all day at school and then hopefully graduation after the other 3 exams. I hope you like tests o.o Do you like tests? :O Super impressive that you are going after your masters though. :D Is that degree also valid outside the country? lol In case you want to move later on because the president sucks lmao |
hey sorry for the late reply, Zephi: ! i fell asleep lol
sounds like your state is in as much hubbaloo as mine lol it'll be even worse for us after this next presidential election though so might as well embrace it ooooor move to canada. i'm ok with that option and i bet i could find work [yes] esol is a great choice if you are moving to california, and i mean, i can see a need for it in florida too (probably some parts of the state more than others, but you get my drift). as far as the hours go, 300 isn't bad and 2 internships aren't bad either i mean, they'd set it all up for you i imagine. i am taking the non-internship route of the program because i work in the field, but that means i have to find my own field supervisor (which i have) and do it through my company (which i can get most supervision hours covered through them, i will still have to pay the supervisor out of pocket for some of it though and she's not cheap haha). do i like tests? well... no [lol] in fact i get test anxiety pretty bad, or i did when i was younger. it's been years now and i still flub on quizzes but there is a program that helps with testing and the kids of questions/how questions are asked and it's like modules over all the possible questions and topics that might be on the exam. i'm working my way through that... i'm at just under 3% completion hahaha it's going to be a long road [gonk] |
*flops into the thread* I should go make my lunch.
|
Linnea: well my reply is even later than yours xD
Yea, Florida decided to take the bribe for common core and pocket the cash while sticking everyone else (the teachers) with the work. Cali seems like the place to be for art and food but yes, I agree Canada isn't that bad and the teachers there routinely question the gov't and have strong unions but their teachers are all highly qualified so I am not sure if I could get a job there with just a Bachelors :/ I suppose I could try though. I should probably go for that ESOL certification to give me a little bit of an edge, or less reasons NOT to be hired. o.o True, it has good application here but honestly it is a district specific thing I think. So where I am, it's not that much but in the next district over the majority of students don't speak English as their first language. It's really cool but hard for them when they have teachers who aren't understanding or don't want to "do extra work" for those students :/ For the most part yea, they take our paperwork and everything and then just randomly assign us. The first internship isn't bad but the second is a full time job that you aren't getting paid for =.= I could use some income xD Wow, you're only 3%? It must go by fast though? Oh wow, test anxiety isn't good at all D: gosh. That's horrible. My husband gets the same way, idk what it is about tests. I'm the opposite, meaning taking a test is one of the few things that will get my adrenaline pumping xD I want to be first AND have the highest score o.o That's the only way that I ever feel competitive. It's nice that you have those modules though. By the time you're done with them, you'll be pro status. :D |
Hello all.

no matter what you decide to do, it seems you will have something to fall back on and the hardest part is having a plan, if you ask me. would it be hard to work over in the next district though? i mean if you stay in florida. those kinds of things are tricky i reckon because there might not always be the position you are truly seeking open at that time. surprisingly, maine, or portland rather, has a fair share of english language learners; somali, african and canadian french, cambodian, and some more. it's a pretty mixed pot. at the school i am in now, there is an all spanish kindergarten and first grade. that seems rare to me in that where we are, i didn't think we had a big enough spanish speaking population, but it would appear that i am wrong. the only other thing i can think of is that maybe it's also parents who are doing like a full immersion for their kids. that's a good age to make multi-lingual speakers! the modules don't really go by fast, but it's an effective method for learning and the platform is similar to the test we take for the BCBA exam. in my current class we aren't taking the WHOLE module list, there is an insane amount of mods and then levels within each one, that it would be impossible even if we did one a day for the whole 10 week term. it's unreal. i wonder if i'll get the chance to do more mods in other classes, that would help. i am so jealous if your no test anxiety. i get in my own way and get too flustered and then i don't go with my initial choice and mess myself up. i even took the SATs twice! i did ok the first time, but they said statistically you do better the second time. i gave it a whirl and did do better in the english portion of it, but actually did worse in math hahaha figures. now they score them all differently, and fortunately the undergrad school i went to didn't hold the SATs high up, so i got in to my first choice. are you going to have to work as well as do the internship? or is that something that you can make work? my friend went back to finish her nursing degree and has two teenage kids and is doing all the intern/externship stuff so she took out more money in loans to cover house and family expenses so she could budget it and not have to work during that part of her schooling. smart, but i bet those bills are going to rack up fast [gonk] hey kirin *waves* |
Hello thread... I think I am going to head to bed.
