Ah, that sounds like a hard but good habit to boot. Good luck with that!

Thank you so much for the advice. [lol] The graduation has come and gone, but I went barefaced and with my hair loose, and it was all fine. I ended up being a little overdressed anyway, lol. I spoke to my mum, though, and over the Christmas break we're gonna get me some basic makeup and I'm going to try and learn how to apply it, as well as how to do at least a few basic hairstyles. At the moment I can literally only tie it up in a ponytail, which is pretty rubbish. It's really reassuring to hear that I'm not alone, though; sometimes it feels like every single woman just has innate beauty skills, y'know, and I'm just like '???'

Also thank God for YouTube tutorials.

Woodlandnymph 11-24-2016 02:00 AM

Linny looked amazing in that dress. I must say!

And make up! I think the trick is do what works for you. Don't like fuss? Keep a routine under 5 minutes. A little mascara goes a long way to perk up your eyes and make you look awake....
Hair....do you have a friend who can help? I do love doing other people's make up and such. I just did one of my best bud's hair and make up for her wedding! Which was stressful but not as stressful as I thought it would be. I knew what she liked and we stuck with keeping it natural and flattering.

Zeap---- and I bet you were just as pretty barefaced as you would be with any make up! <3

zeapear 11-24-2016 02:02 AM

Aw, thank you so much Woody! I do have friends/family who can do me up for special occasions, but I should probably learn to do it myself. [lol]

Woodlandnymph 11-24-2016 02:23 AM

Sometimes it's hardest to make ourselves up. I certainly suck at making myself up compared to what I can do for others.

Hey! Got any plans for Christmas break? We're just heading into a long weekend for Thanksgiving so I have off tomorrow through Sunday. Which I am so excited for. It means I get to start putting up Christmas things! It's tradition the day after Thanksgiving for us.

zeapear 11-24-2016 02:54 AM

I actually don't really have any plans over the Christmas break, aside from attempting to renew my Learner's Permit for driving since my original one expired. I'll probably be in charge of putting up the tree and everything once we hit December since everyone else is still at work, and I'm looking forward to having a relatively relaxed Christmas.
Also, long weekends are the best! Do you have any long weekend plans aside from decorating? What about for the rest of the Christmas period?

Woodlandnymph 11-24-2016 03:35 AM

Are your Department of Motor Vehicles as slow as ours are? It's kind of a well known thing that if you go to the DMV here it will last for a better part of the day. Uhhh.

Nice! I need to buy a new tree. I actually had my eye on a black one. Fake cause I like saving money rather than buying a new real one each year.... Yeah? You'll have to take pictures of your festive decorations! ;)

Ah, my aunt does this nice thing to welcome Christmas. She has us all over for breakfast and then we go to the small business that decorate and check out their ornaments and displays. It's a nice alternative to the Black Friday crap. Then...rest? We took all last week to move into the new place with my man-guy. It's looking pretty darn put together. *pushes up glasses*

zeapear 11-25-2016 05:44 AM

I haven't had much experience with DMVs, but what experience I have had was actually relatively fast, with minimal wait time. Here's hoping that it stays that way!

Yeah, I think we got a new tree relatively recently too? Our old one was like 15+ years old or something, and was still leaving glitter everywhere. [lol] I've never seen a black Christmas tree; that sounds really cool/chic! Haha, I'll see if I can get any photos after we've put everything up. Our decorating is pretty minimal since my sister isn't a huge fan of Christmas and the Holidays make her anxious, but we do try to dress up a corner of the living room with the tree, cards, figurines... etc.

Oh, that all sounds lovely! I wish that my family had more traditions; all that we really have is that Christmas is at our place every year, and that we Skype with the family overseas. [lol] It's exciting that you're moving in with your guy! Have you lived together before, or will this be a first?

Linnea 11-29-2016 05:57 AM

woops i dropped the ball in here >.>

i'm glad it all worked out, zeap [yes] i'm sure you looked lovely!

i have been thinking of a tree this year, but alas, i don't have a big enough living room. my bedroom is bigger so i suppose i could put it in there [lol] could be fun. i could also get a smallish one that could sit on a low book shelf in front of my living room window and that could work out ok i suppose too

Woodlandnymph 11-30-2016 03:09 AM

Let's switch DMVs then!!

Awww. Christmas kinda explodes over our house. We do Hannukah too, so there's a corner with a menorah and what not. Your tree had glitter on it?!?! Oh man. The black tree was sold out (such sadness) but we got one and put it up.

Skyping with family is great! We did that when my brother lived across the country. :3
Ah, this is our first time living together yeah. :D

Linny! Christmas tree in the bedroom! Yes! I love doing that as you know. It's nice to have something so magical to look at!

Linnea 11-30-2016 03:42 AM

but i already have something magical to look at..... your butt... it's in a picture i keep over my bed... so i can look at it. all. night.

(ok i am so done being creepy hahaha i am in a weird mood since i spent the last 5 hours busting out a paper, booyah! *turns of 'ride of the valkyries*)

zeapear 11-30-2016 04:15 AM

Woody: Ah, it's a shame that the black trees were sold out! Yours still looks fantastic, however. I've never understood how people can actually coordinate their Christmas trees to look themed? Ours are always super slap-dash, the side facing the wall super bare and the side facing the room overflowing, and half of the decorations being homemade from when we were little. [lol] It looks homely, but never couture.

And yep; our old Christmas tree had glitter on the branches in order to resemble snow, I think? It made it kind of crusty, and every year we'd end up with a sparkling ring on the floor around it, but luckily it was on the cork and not carpet, making it much easier to clean. [lol] From memory the new tree is just plain fake-tree plastic, without any bells and whistles which is fine by us. I think it's also smaller? I guess I'll find out when we put it up, lol.

Linn: You could decorate the walls! Make a big tree out of paper or something!

Speaking of, I just got finished making some Christmas prints for my Dungeons and Dragons campaign. I drew a 'family portrait' style picture of all of our characters in Christmas sweaters, and I'm gonna give one to all of my other players. [heart]

EDIT: Here's the mentioned print: (my character is the gnome wearing the hat)

Linnea 11-30-2016 08:11 PM

oh that's actually a good idea, zeap! i have a very empty wall in my living room. perhaps some of that washi tape to help decorate it too

zeapear 11-30-2016 11:26 PM

Yeah, decorating the walls is a surefire way to make a space feel a little more homely! The walls in my bedroom are absolutely covered in crap that I've collected, and I'm always adding more. [lol]

Woodlandnymph 12-01-2016 01:56 AM

Bluuuuue moooooon! I hope you do. Give it a smooch or two as well before you sleep, Linny ;)

Zeap, that picture is super cute!! I'm sure they'll all love it!

And Linny, if you do some arts, pick up some cheapo frames at Wal Mart or Target and cluster them on the wall! You're great at painting, and you guys managed to fill up the walls nicely with your old roommate (the one who was bonking that German dude)

It's actually silly Zeap, I ONLY get purple, green, and blue ornaments...and I pick up one or two new ones a year to match. Or if there's a cool cheaper one that I can get duplicates of, I do. This year I got a dinosaur and mushroom to put on my tree. I do get mismatched ones and we put that on the family tree....so I'll have to have two trees. One matchy match one and another crazy random one.

Crusty glitter snow!!! I'll be sweeping up a ring of glitter too when I take down my tree. XD

Linny, if you get paper bags when you shop, you can use those! I did that one year with trader joes bags and I made a huge tree shaped advent calendar for the wall and some of those looped paper garlands. I just added fancy paper from a gift shop to give it a glittery boost.

Linnea 12-02-2016 03:05 AM

paper bags? how does that work? do you have pictures?

i was thinking yards of green garland if i can't find a tree small enough. yea so like green garland as the pine needles and then ornaments and lights per usual

Woodlandnymph 12-02-2016 03:33 AM

Um.... I think I do... lemme check.

https://scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b0&oe=58B84365

Advent Calendar before adding chocolates to it.

https://scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3e&oe=58B0D1DE

We were just trying to decorate when I was out in Portland on a shoestring budget...so we had the bags laying around from shopping.

That's a good idea!

Linnea 12-04-2016 03:05 AM

oh that's a fun idea [yes] what was under neath?

Woodlandnymph 12-06-2016 02:22 AM

That was before we had time to go tree shopping, so we had the little advent calendar on there till the tree when in that area, and we but the advent up elsewhere.

Linnea 12-06-2016 07:30 PM

but what did you have underneath? the numbers i mean. or did you just rip off the numbers to count down with nothing underneath?

Woodlandnymph 12-07-2016 02:23 AM

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH. We attached chocolates to the front, and pulled them off when we got the the day.

zeapear 12-07-2016 03:24 AM

Aaaah, hello again! Sorry for taking so long to show up again. We have, however, finally put up our tiny Christmas tree. [lol]

Man, I forgot to do an Advent Calendar this year. Oh well, I guess I'll just continue to binge on chocolate to my normal amount.

Also, bonus news!! I passed all of my classes! I got two HDs (the main psych course and anthropology), and two Ds (sociology and the secondary psych course)!!

Woodlandnymph 12-08-2016 01:27 AM

Tiny tree! Huzzah! I keep buying up little stocking stuffers and such for my family. I'm going to decorate a bit at work cause they're so slow to.

Niiiiiice! Congrats lady! Nice nice. What do the HDs and Ds mean? Ours is done on a 4.0 scale for college....mostly represented by A, B,C,D,F letters....

Kirin Rosenbaum 12-08-2016 02:46 AM

I'll take some pictures of my Christmas decorations. They are pretty epic in my opinion. We do mangers. We have ten of them from Peru.

Ah, probably should have cleared that up! For uni where I am we have a grading system that goes from Fail, Pass, Credit, Distinction, to High Distinction. So I got two distinctions and two high distinctions, which is quite good!

I haven't bought anything for my family yet, and haven't really gotten them anything in previous years due to an inability to go to the shops by myself and a lack of income, but this year I'm thinking I might buy something for my sister for when she gets married and moves out.
