If I were going to poison someone, I'd use oleander. It would keep me safe from detection in two ways.

One, its effect looks just like a simple sudden cardiac arrest if you're not looking for it.

Two, if they ARE looking for it and they find it, it's a really common plant in gardens. Plant something with similar leaves near it and "oh my god, I asked him to go out and pick some greens...he must have gotten an oleander leaf with them by mistake!" Boom. Easy alibi.

I write. I've come up with a lot of good murder plots. Hey, I have to have some good ideas if I want my character to lead a good long chase, don't I?

Another one I'd consider using is locoweed. It smells like peanut butter, so it would go undetected in some food with a peanut sauce - and people use it to get high, but it's REALLY easy to overdose, so there's what you claim really happened. He smoked it.

Haha, care to hear some of my tips for disposing of a body?

Most of these ideas I got and modified from tumblr, but here we go.

• Before disposing of your body, get rid of anything that could be used to easily identify it. Smash out teeth. Burn off fingerprints. All that should be left is DNA, which could take a very long time to process if a comparison sample isn't already logged - or even be impossible if a good sample can't be found.
• Never bury a body whole lying down. Aerial cameras look for holes about 6 feet long. Instead, if you're going the burial route, either cut the body up, fold it up, or stand it up.
• Bury the body 6 to 10 feet under a dead dog, cat, or other medium-large pet. If they bring in body-sniffing dogs, they'll find that spot and dig, reach the animal, and flag it as a false positive.
• If you're too likely to be caught burying the body, try dumping it in a septic tank. The bacteria in the tank will help decompose the body faster AND cover up the smell.
• If you have the ability to go shark fishing, here's a way you can have nothing at all left. Take some discarded fish parts, chop up the body, mix them together. Go out shark fishing. Use the mixture to chum the water.
• If none of these are options for you, you're going to want to cut the body up and drain it of fluids because this might take some time. Doing this will help prevent the smell of decomposition from becoming a problem while you look for a place to bury it (under some dead animals, of course - in the middle of nowhere, just finding a dead squirrel or something of the like [WITHOUT tire tracks - this kind of trauma makes it obvious that it's been moved!] and placing it on top of where you buried a body part will probably work). To drain it of fluids, take the cut-up pieces and let them soak in your bathtub with half a cup of bleach per tub full of water for a short while, drain, rinse, and repeat until the water runs clear.

And while it's not related to body disposal: If you got any money out of the deal, don't give into temptation and buy yourself everything you ever wanted. Don't even pay off your bills. Keep going as things were for a little while and slowly bring your illicit money into the picture, at a rate such that you can pass it off as something like getting a raise or a promotion at work, stock gains, or selling small crafts.

...what's fun is writing a good guy who has to do something like this.

I've written one thing where a character almost gets away with the dead pet trick, but gets caught because he buried the body lying down and they dug in the 3 feet where the body was but the dog wasn't. I'm trying to think of how I can include some of my mini-mysteries into a video game in the future...so far not really getting anything though. D:
