Eh. There's equivalent crap going on in the world, I don't think its much use to pretend that things are all better now. There's some awful crap going on in the past, there's some awful crap going on now. But yes, the first world places have come a long way, and that is comforting.

I just like to not think about all of those sad things that happen nowadays. I prefer to try to make sure the sad things don't keep happening. [yes]

Eh. I think the real reason that people don't want to think about sad things is because to cry for everyone is to stop breathing for yourself. None of us really do everything we can to stop sad things from happening.

That makes sense.
In a perfect world, we'd be able to stop bad things from happening to people all the time, every time, but it just doesn't work that way. So sad.
I just can't handle hearing of so many sad things that are happening to good, innocent people. It makes me cry and I hate crying.

If I could be a superhero I'd love to save everyone from the evils of the world, but I can't so I don't want to hear of someone being hurt and knowing there is nothing I can do to help.

I don't think even a superhero can save humans from human nature. In the end, all our conflicts boil down to free will and different perspectives. I don't think world peace is worth losing that part of us.

All that aside, I don't think its a good idea to say, "I don't want to hear about bad things." I understand the feeling, but you know. Awareness, empathy, and shared pain are quite powerful and something that makes us distinctly human to one another, which is something that's important to feel if we want to get along with people we see as different from us.
