I always love hearing about K-pop stuff even though I don't listen to it heaps

Comebacks keep happening. EXO released an album. Big Bang announced a comeback.

"Comeback" in K-pop doesn't mean the group was on hiatus.

It DOESN'T mean that. We call it a "comeback" whenever a new song comes out.

Big Bang is a K-pop group. One of the older ones. One of the super popular ones.

ah okay, so a comback isnt as big of a thing over there as it is in Western music?

a comeback isn't even a come back cause they weren't gone o.o... how can you come back if you don't go away XD

Well, if y'don't like it, you'll have to tell millions of people and several entertainment companies to stop calling it a comeback. It's an established term. It has to do with the music shows.

I will gladly tell them. Who shall I write to? XD

It's a huge deal. So much so you'd think it had the same meaning as a Western comeback.

See, the main thing that makes a comeback a COMEBACK is the group performing their new single or the title song of their new album on various music shows. These "music shows" are basically weekly multifandom concerts, and every episode has voting for a winner. Whichever artist wins gets a trophy. The very first performance on each music show since the comeback is called the "comeback stage."
A few weeks and several performances later, all with the same song, there is one final performance. The "goodbye stage." And we react to those like the group is disbanding. Very confusing when you're just getting into K-pop. But it's not a disband or a hiatus. It just means no music show performances with that particular song ever again (except for on special occasions). After that stage, they won't be back on the music shows until they release another song/album, or, in other words, have another comeback.
That's why it's called a comeback. It's a comeback to the music shows. You could think of it as they go on hiatus from the music shows and then have a comeback with a new song.

I avoid explaining this because I imagine it's too confusing when I try.
