Yes. It's a shame. I think there are three maintenance workers at our apartment complex. The head maintenance guy was quick to cut the hole in the ceiling but doesn't seem as much in a hurry to repair it.

My husband doesn't want to complain. Our landlord has been super nice, and he doesn't want to feel like he's bothering her. I'm much more annoyed by it than he is.

It isn't right that the maintenance people drilled the hole but aren't showing any initiative to actually come and fix it. Then you just mention it and say that it's not something that should be allowed. Just because he doesn't want to complain or say something doesn't mean that you can't say something about it. If it bothers you, you should speak up about it.

If the maintenance guy doesn't fix it soon, it's grounds for breaking the lease.

idk. I don't support stereotypes. But one time, the maintenance guy glued a plank of wood to our door and left the shower running for hours while we weren't home. Like he left the shower on, and left, and we told him we wouldn't be home until late.

Is it just me, or do people end up with maintenance jobs simply because it's seen as better than letting them sleep in the dumpster out back? What are the qualifications? Lack of any and all qualifications?

It took a guy 6 HOURS to run a wire from the front of the house to the back of the house at a place I was staying. By drilling a hole in the floor and running the wire under the house and putting it through another hole. 6 hours to crawl from one end to the other with a wire in his hands. Taking smoke breaks every ten seconds, I suppose.

This was the same guy who left used heroin equipment in the kitchen cabinets when we moved in, mind you. I guess he just didn't care if someone had to touch the stuff to throw it away. >.<

It takes some special skill of all the wrong kind to just randomly glue a plank of wood on the door tho... That was p. damn impressive.

Maybe he screwed up and scratched the door, and put the plank there in the hopes you wouldn't see the scratch.

You'd think it'd just be easier for people to do real work...

And hey, don't break the lease without at least looking into getting a court order declaring you to be rent-free until the repairs are finished. I don't know about the laws in your area, but here we have a law that says they can't charge you rent while leaving you hanging on repairs... especially things like holes in ceilings.

They have as much responsibility to you as you do to them. It's a rental agreement, and they probably agreed somewhere in it to actually maintain the place.
