Rule Britannia!

So basically, come and talk to me if you're from Britain... or indeed, if you live elsewhere and just so happen to have an interest in Britain. This isn't an exclusively British thread, I'm not weird enough to want that. People from other countries are, as a general rule, brilliant, so I'm hardly going to actively work to exclude you.

Anyway! If you are from Britain, what part? If not, why are you here? Do you think we're desperately cool people or do you just want a thread to lurk about on?

Nifty. I'm going to London soon, with a couple of friends.

:]

I live an hour or two away, in Southampton.

shocky2007 03-19-2007 08:09 PM

are you going to stay in tower hamlets.

Cyanide 03-19-2007 08:11 PM

Nah, we aren't staying overnight or anything. Just a daytrip. We're going to invade the museums and visit the Dungeons. Good times. :]

Chimama 03-22-2007 10:48 PM

I am here because I am addicted to Jammie Dodgers and Dandelion and Burdock Drink!!!!! :P
I had a DIL born in Trowbridge (sp?) which I am told is near Oxford? I don't know.
I watch American Idol just so I can hear Simon Cowel speak, similar reason I tune into Glasgow born Craig Ferguson 5 nights a week, too, I suppose. I am also fairly good at differentiating between the accents as I worked with large numbers of tourists for several years

Lilithia 03-22-2007 10:49 PM

I have relatives up there, but never been there before. Also my boyfriend will be travelling there next month... for a month. I can't afford to go so I'll be staying in Australia.

jellysundae 03-22-2007 11:02 PM

i apologise for how expensive my country is to visit, i know that Chimama has the same issues, maybe you should all write to Gordon Brown and complain?

When he becomes Prime Minister he may feel he must do something about it!

Ah, I almost forgot to mention my Glagow born Grand dad on my father's side. He came to the US around 100 or more years ago though, by boat would be my guess. I would not mind taking a cruise tht eds up there, ummmm, if I won it... or a lottery :P

jellysundae 03-23-2007 05:28 PM

Can't be, no one in my family hates Chihuahuas. My Scots Grand dad was a vet and a dog breeder, so yeah, we are all about dogs for generations :P

I also hail from the Britian. I am a Scotsman from the city of Glasgow.

Though I do a lot of travelling of England. In the past 12 months I've been in Newcastle, Birmingham, Coventry, Manchester, Leicester, Southampton and Milton Keynes, and next week I'll be in London. All of them are lovely towns, though to be honest I didn't see much of Milton Keynes.

sayuri_nitta 06-17-2007 02:07 PM

I'm British, I live in a town about 30miles from London

Colossia 06-21-2007 05:53 PM

I'm not British, but if one talks to me for a half hour or so I'll pick up an accent. :P

Anglophile and have been since before Usenet afforded us all those lovely scripts of Blackadder, Red Dwarf et al.
Slightly less of an Anglophile now since the difference between North America and the Brits seems to be disappearing. Language-wise anyway. The argot is fading. =(
