LOL!!
There goes your diet out of the window

and i do need a job http://i19.tinypic.com/4z0n4sj.gif

You know I'd be nervous about cooking for someone else now, having lived on my own again for 5 years now I've got out of the habit. and when you're cooking for yourself you don't really prepare proper meals so much, just throw something together.
At one point i did decide i was going to make more of an effort, and develop a repertoir of dishes that i was good at, but I've been too lazy
I really need to be in the mood to prepare a meal from scratch, and I'm more inclined to do it during the winter when it's cold and a warm, steamy kitchen is a good place to be. But in the winter my kitchen is bloody freezing so i tend to keep out of it as much as possible
No hope for me really is there?
I'm going to make some fajitas later, i got some tortillas from the reduced section in the supermarket, 2 packs of 6 for 10p/20c each because they're on their date, so they went into the freezer, plus i have salsa and seasoning left from doing some last wek, so i just need some turkey and peppers, i love fajitas, even if eating them does make my nose run

Mama Juru 06-25-2007 02:52 PM

Oh fajitas sound wonderful right now!

I haven't cooked a sit down meal in a while. Working that crappy shift left me too tired to do anything so we would just eat what we could find.

I don't know why but I think I am craving chicken with some steamed veggies and rice. Oh yea... I can make that jerk chicken I like so much. Mmmmm...

jellysundae 06-25-2007 03:07 PM

I've never cooked jerk chicken myself, but i want to get some seasoning for my store cupboard. We used to do goujons dusted with jerk seasoning a few years back at work. you got in a right mess doing them! Think of the produce baskets you see in supermarkets, lined and then filled with about 15KG of chicken goujons, then we'd dump a big scoopful of the dusting powder on and get in there with our hands and mix it all around to coat everything. Our gloves would get really sticky with the mix, but it smelled great! Really rich and fruity, almost like fruit cake *drools*
and the amount of people who'd come past and say'ew, that stinks'
Such philistines in the area where i live

EternalHearts 06-25-2007 03:08 PM

You guys are making me hungry! I made chicken parm for the family Saturday afternoon, and am looking forward to that tonight. It really isn't any fun cooking for yourself, I'm pretty similar to you Jelly, in that I typically jsut throw something together at night. I really need to get better at that.

Fajitas do sound good, maybe I should make those sometime later this week for my roomie and I. I wonder if she likes them. Ah well, I can always change it around to tacos or something similar if I have to.

jellysundae 06-25-2007 03:09 PM

I love tacos aswell!
but they are the very worst thing for getting in a disgusting mess with while you're eating them

luckycharm 06-25-2007 03:09 PM

Hey everyone!!! It's been a while since I've really posted anywhere. I usually drop by and read, but then log off and think to myself that I'll be on later and will post then. The "later" doesn't usually end up happening. I hope everyone had a nice weekend.....it was really warm and muggy up here....which I'm not a big fan of. I'm really excited because I found out my vacation request was accepted! So now I get to go help my brother and mom for the week on RAGBRAI. My brother will be biking the whole thing I'm sure. I'm debating whether or not I should take my bike off of the trainer and take it with me so I can bike some of it too. I will be helping my mom set up and take down camp every day for the most part.....and hopefully getting some reading done since I won't be near computers or televisions.... :D

jellysundae 06-25-2007 03:11 PM

Hello Lucky :) Really nice to see you again http://i16.tinypic.com/5y06bt4.gif I wish i had a bike! and a trainer for it would be good too, aslong as it can be indoors somewhere. My friend is a cyclist and he had his in his garage out in the cold! BRRRR
Take your bike along with you and have some fun!

EternalHearts 06-25-2007 05:55 PM

Lucky, that sounds like a great way to spend your vacation! And I agree that you should make your bike available for riding--you'll probably regret it if you don't.

By the way, what IS RAGBRAI?

siaasgn 06-25-2007 06:24 PM

I was wondering what RAGBRAI was as well - but I'm going to agree that you should take your bike.

I hope everyone had a great weekend - looks like you all had some fun on here. :)

Saturday was my last day working at the library - they aren't open on Saturdays again until September - I am going to work part time for them again if I don't already have a full time library job when the seasonal position opens up again.

I went to the most wonderful dinner Saturday night with friends. We went to Casablanca.

It's a Moroccan restaurant and you get a traditional feast -

Course 1 - Hummous and baba ganouj

Course 2 - Three salads.
Carrots strongly flavored with garlic, vinegar, and spices contrast
the tender eggplant salad beside them, marinated in mild spices.
The third salad is a medley of crunchy diced cucumbers and
tomatoes with parsley, vinegar and oil.

Course 3 - B’stilla.
A traditional Moroccan pastry of flaky phyllo dough dusted
with powdered sugar and cinnamon. Filled with a delectable
mix of eggs, chicken, and sweet cinnamon spices.

Course 4 - Chicken or Rabbit. (we got both because there were 3 of us sharing)
The chicken at Casablanca is melt-off-the-bone tender, perfect for
eating with fingers(we chose the walnut topping) The
rabbit (an unusual and low-fat alternative to chicken) is cooked in
a mildly spiced tomato sauce topped with sweet dates.

Course 5 - Beef or chicken shishkebab, or lamb. (we did beef and lamb)
Juicy chunks of beef grilled with onions, green peppers,
and tomatoes and brushed with a garlic and olive oil marinade.
Meltingly tender nuggets of juicy lamb topped with
sweet honey and almonds.

Course 6 - Cous cous with vegetables.

Course 7 - Basket of fresh fruit.
Fresh and uncut fruit- apples, grapes, oranges, plums, and other
in-season fruit to refresh your palate.

Course 8 - Baklava and mint tea.
The version of these traditional small pastries served at Casablanca
is a unique, sweet blend of walnuts and honey snuggled in between
tall layers of flaky, crunchy phyllo dough. The sweet mint tea is
poured from a height to aerate and cool it to perfection.

Al lin all it was an almost 3 hour dinner and I am still drooling when I think of how amazing the honey lamb with almonds was. .. sooo good.

jellysundae 06-25-2007 07:02 PM

WOW!!
That sounds absolutely amazing! and i haven't eaten yet either..*cue belly grumbles*
Did you see the belly dancers?

siaasgn 06-25-2007 07:21 PM

Yes - there were 2 different girls that came out throughout the course of dinner.

One girls even had the little cymbals on her fingers while she danced. :)

jellysundae 06-25-2007 07:43 PM

Belly dancing's said to be the most amazing exercise, i imagine it's pretty hard to learn though!

magikjaz 06-25-2007 07:44 PM

OMG the Moroccan dinner sounds HEAVENLY!!!!

and jelly's burger sounds like a heartattack on a plate..but SO YUMMY!!!

lucky - have fun!!!!
I had more to say but I got distracted and now I have to re- read everything to respond *sigh*

jellysundae 06-25-2007 07:47 PM

lol, I'm sure my burger's weren't that deathly, bacon is dry fried with that fat drained out half way through, and i cook burgers in my griddle pan. But i bet they'd still have any impressive fat and calorie count. But then again..he was eating them not me..I never made one for myself

EternalHearts 06-25-2007 08:01 PM

siaa, that is an amazing-sounding evening! I need to find one of those near me!

I heard it is a lot of fun - I actually want to try and find a belly dancing class around home once I'm finished with school (and I have a better paying job).

jellysundae 06-25-2007 08:28 PM

I love the idea of dancing for exercise, but because i live out in the middle of nowhere there isn't anything like that around her, so i really miss out, because I don't socialise at all, so something like that would help me in 2 ways at once.

magikjaz 06-25-2007 08:35 PM

i'm in the middle of the city practically jelly and I don't do anything like that either...course right now we're short on $$ so I use that as my excuse ^_^

*wonders if there are any Moroccan places near me*

siaasgn 06-25-2007 08:42 PM

 I forget sometimes how lucky i am to live in a city like Philadelphia - I can think of at least 3 Moroccan restaurants, at least 3 decent Mexican places, many Japanese and Chinese and at least 2 Korean places that I love to eat and at least 4 or 5 yummy Indian restaurants.

I went to visit my brother in Oklahoma and I couldn't really find anything like that there - it made me really appreciate the wide variety that I have.

I also never thought I would be the kind of person who eats Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Mexican, and Moroccan foods - I was so picky as a child and now I love trying new things. :P

plus i think fruit is closeby too!!!

I wish i lived somewhere a little more cosmopolitan, of course now that i have no job there's really nothing stopping me, apart from moeny and being too much of a pussy to leave my comfort zone, even if i don't like living here.
But let's face it, the £800 that i received in my final pay packet wouldn't get me very far towards my San Franciscan dream would it, it would barely cover the air fare
