Poor Roo, too. Maybe we should start a Mene infirmary. ;p

Melody 09-17-2007 03:18 PM

gemini- lol thats what i do with my toddler. i give her something i know she can handle and she goes at it. she stays until she thinks its good enough too. its cute. <3 and her grandma just got her a broom/mop/random other cleaning items set that she loves to 'clean' with. it makes me happy. what i really want to do is get her the kids vacuum that really picks stuff up. XD

GeminiKizzy 09-17-2007 03:23 PM

we have a kids vacuum but it doesn't actually pick stuff up. It makes lots of noise like a real vacuum and drives the dogs crazy. Justin also likes to help sweep but ends up sweeping away all the little piles that I had created. When he helps with the dishes it's mostely an excuse to play in the water. He has the right ideas - he just needs practice.

Melody 09-17-2007 03:32 PM

lol sakura does the same thing with the dishes. she just wants to play with the bubbles. she does hand me some of the dishes once in a while though. but every now and then she ends up getting the clean ones from the rack and putting them into the water again. ^^;; silly children.

all of my kids and pets are scared of the vacuum. i can only imagine what they would do to a toy one XD but i want to get it anyway. i think its made by hoover. but its found in the little kid section. (probably the girls with all the kitchen/tea play sets etc) i think it would be good to get her over her fear of it and start helping mommy clean up her ground in cereal messes XD

GeminiKizzy 09-17-2007 03:35 PM

speaking of cleaning...I have to go. Justin is trying to "clean" the fish tanks. ::wince:: See ya later. Good luck getting the kiddos down for their nap!

Melody 09-17-2007 03:38 PM

lol thanks. good luck saving the fishies! XD

fawN 09-17-2007 04:48 PM

*streaks through*

Hmmm.. lots of faces I don't recognize!! *waves hi*

I think Walmart docks the cashier who forgets to deactivate the security device that sets off the alarms. They write down their number from the receipt.

Rue, I'm sorry you got no sleep! I hope you get a chance to nap well today!

My 6 year old Jade likes to help sweep, but like yours, doesn't do an effective job, and sometimes I'll give her a clorox wipe to clean the floor or table with. One job she's good at is organizing the clean silverware into the drawer. I can totally see a child putting a clean plate back in the dirty water, but my mom used to let us "help" like that, and she says it's ok, as long as it's fun and they think they're helping!

Melody 09-17-2007 04:51 PM

*waves*
i try not to get aggrivated with it. i know later on she will hate doing the dishes so i should be happy she wants to help. it just gets annoying when you wash the same thing over and over again XD
ive done the wipe thing though. my daughter LOVES to clean things off. and im a-okay with that. shes happy and things are actually getting clean.

Chi 09-17-2007 07:50 PM

Sending much love to those who need it. <3

I'll still be away for a few more days. Life's pretty hectic right now. Hope no one forgets me. xD;

jellysundae 09-17-2007 08:12 PM

Hey fawNie!! *waves madly*

You know, I hate it that they still make toys that are mini version of what Mum spends all day doing around the house. It's such a horribly sexist thing, trying to teach little girls that ironing and cleaning are fun :x

We wont forget about you Chi^^ Hope you're getting on ok

hope you're feeling better now Roo *hugs*

Melody 09-17-2007 08:17 PM

I think its more along the lines of 'helping mommy' so that when they do it later it doesnt seem like such a chore.
im going to be having my son do it too. he wont know what 'womans work' is. because im going to make sure my children arent away of gender bias's/roles. my eldest has just as many 'boy toys' as she does 'girl toys' and i plan on keeping it that way for them all <33 take that toy companies adn marketing campaignes!

magikjaz 09-17-2007 08:32 PM

*tacklehugs fawN*

@ jelly - I don't have kids, but I agree with you .. it seems horribly gender biased. I can appreciate that many parents are using those toys for both their boys and girls, but (and correct me if I'm wrong) I think you still have to go to the "girl's" section of a toy store to find them.

roocee 09-17-2007 08:34 PM

*waves to FawN*

Thanks Jelly, I am starting to feel better finally.

Melody I agree with the idea of having a child to have both boy and girl toys as well. I see Jelly's point on the toys for cleaning, etc. being sexist, however, I think that if done right, kids (both girls and boys) can learn about chores in a fun way and then maybe they will appreciate what has to be done when they grow up.

magikjaz 09-17-2007 08:38 PM

*huggles Rue*

I completely forgot to wish healing stuff for you and sia *hangs head in shame*

hope you both are feeling better.

Melody 09-17-2007 08:55 PM

majik- yeah its in the girls section. with the rest of the kitchen stuff. but i think there are also toy bbq's there which would be considered 'male'

magikjaz 09-17-2007 10:21 PM

[email protected] the bbq ... it is rather a man's thing isn't it?

altho my hubby ... who is a professional chef ... couldn't bbq to save his life when we first moved into our house 2 years ago ... now he's a master ^_^

Melody 09-17-2007 11:17 PM

lol my hubby has claimed the bbq as his territory. which is ok by me. because im not a big fire fan so if he wants to take his chances at getting burned that a-okay with me. lol. He's pretty good at it though. <3
professional chef you say, any secrets of the trade that can be shared? Im still learning to cook XD
its impressive that hes mastered the bbq after 2 years though! my dads been doing it for forever and still fails half the time. lol.

jellysundae 09-18-2007 01:27 AM

I went to a barbeque the weekend before last and we had some yummy stuff! People always cook enough to feed the entire street for a week though

Mama Juru 09-18-2007 01:34 AM

*walks in and crashes on the couch*
Did someone say BBQ?

jellysundae 09-18-2007 01:52 AM

I could eat a big juicy burger right now!

roocee 09-18-2007 02:04 AM

Gosh does that sound good right now. We haven't eaten dinner yet and I'm about starved. I hope it's done soon. I slept most of the day (tried to anyway) but my head is starting to feel better.

Mama Juru 09-18-2007 04:56 AM

Wow Juru! That's so detailed and beautiful! Who did it for you?

Hey guys! Hope ya'll are doing well! Sorry I've not popped in here the last few days - been so busy with stuff that I've been centering my Mene time on just a handful of threads recently.

How is everyone?

Mama Juru 09-18-2007 01:45 PM

good morning purkles!

Aliena: Secret drew it. He posted it up in the Art Post. Isn't it lovely! I was very surprised. I got a PM that basically said, hey.. I drew you, here! I have to give him something....

Jaz: *tacklehugs* I need to go see you on Zanny. Been lazy and only collecting bones.
