It's starting to feel like winter here, and I'm happy about it.
As much as I whine about the cold I much prefer cold to hot - I hate summer. In the winter I cna make some hot chocolate, snuggle on the couch in a blanket and watch a good movie - I'm so miserable in the summer.
The only thing i really dislike about winter is the heating bills - our house is big and old and it's super expensive to heat it. We're keeping the house at 62 when we're home and 58 when we're away and overnight to see if it helps at all - last year we had one month (a very cold month) where the gas bill was $900!!

I like the summer.. I dislike the winter because it's cold.. and it's not like I have someone to snuggle up against..

@siaasgn. oo thats another reason why i live winter, hot chocolate, and keeping nice and warm while watch jack frost or frosty the snowman when they start showing them on tv xD i was never one for summer either, some days its nice, but most of the time it gets so hot.
yeesh, heating bills are crazy >.> though i usually just bury myself under a mountain of blankets instead of using a heater xD
@dessertdesiert. i don't have anyone to cuddle with either T_T that sucks.

Ouch @ that heating bill! We have a big house too (4 levels) that's hard to heat, and sometimes the heater on the main floor can't keep up and it never even gets to 70 with it running constantly. We don't want to set the thermostat that low though because it's going to be too cold for Amber (sheesh, it's too cold for ME!) so we're trying to seal up the windows and see if that makes a difference.

fawN do you have a fireplace?
We have one and we keep our heating bill down because of it, sides we think it heats better then a regular heater.. sides if we stay around it then we are nice and warm..

Yeah we have a fireplace and we used it a lot last winter! We need to find a place to get steady supplies of wood for a good price this winter because last year we got it all free from a good friend who had cut it up in the mountains.
Amber just got her 6 month vaccinations and she cried so hard. And then the doctor remembered about the flu shot and gave that one too, and she cried all over again. Since Jade's at school, the doctor said Jade really needed to get one too and Jade's eyes popped open like this  and she was crying before the needle even went in, but it hit a tough spot on her skin and then popped in and she cried really hard too. I felt so bad for both of them!
I already got my flu shot a couple weeks ago, and now Jason's made an appointment to get his too because it's important to protect our little preemie baby this winter.

I think that using a fireplace can actually make the rest of the house colder.
We have one in our living room and when we have fires that room is really warm but the rest of the house is freezing and sometimes it will even make the heater turn off (but still leaves the rest of the house freezing).
If I had small kids at home (especially a premie!) I don't think we would keep the house so cold - but since it's just us we deal and wear sweatshirts and stuff.

I don't have proper heating at all :(
There are electric storage heaters in the main rooms, but they are worse than useless, my living room isn't especially large, I estimate 12 x 16 feet, and the heater in there contributed a whole 3 degrees worth of 'warmth' the one winter I used it. The room temperature rarely rose above 50, which is colder that it was in the refridgerated factory that I worked in!
I LONG for central heating again, it's like a luxury when I visit my Mum and every room is warm!
It gets down to freezing in my downstairs loo, because there's no heat source in there, unless you count the light bulb  it's a passage way underneath so the floor is cold, and the wind posively howls through the gap where the sash window panes over lap, it billows the curtains out and makes the living room door down the hall open by itself..which is great late at night!
There's a draught across my knees now because it's windy outside and it's blowing straight in through that window
I'm trying to think of something that I can stop it up with, some dense latex foam strips or something would probably do the trick, not that I have any :/

Well that's good everyone has a plan to keep warm... I know how I keep the house warm alot>.> Baking.. lol...
since our house is small(only main floor and basement which only has one room that none of us really good and our freezers) so when we have 2 rooms heated up then the other 4 usually get warm too... or we just put on the central heating in each room on (we have it in the bathroom too, so no cold trips to the bathroom at night) so... yeea...

the heater here is so ancient, so i don't take any chances xD i'll just stick to keeping the doors closed bundling up =]
maybe try a towel to plug up the gap with?

I hate wearing lots of layers that are required when you bundle up.. I like being free and being able to move around freely when you don't have so many layers on..
