Oh an Easter tree. That sounds really cool.

*runs through the thread nekkid*

*whispers* We don't celebrate Easter...unless eating Cadbury Creme Eggs counts. lol

fawN 04-02-2007 12:55 AM

Hey all! I had a pretty good weekend. We got back from visiting my in-laws again in Albuquerque, and celebrated my youngest nephew's 2nd birthday party. The nice thing about this one was that all the adults were invited to stay for hamburgers and hotdogs too, so everybody was together to hang out! Usually they just have pizza for the kids and send the parents away to pick them up later!

Next weekend we'll go down again for the family Easter get-together, and I'm bringing the new Rigatoni/Red Pepper dish I learned from foodnetwork. :D I'm excited to share it! They always have egg hunts in the backyard for the kids with real dyed eggs, and then hide 3 plastic eggs in hard locations for the couples to find, and one egg holds movie tickets, one hold dinner tickets, and one holds $20.

After Easter weekend we may only get to go down there for one more weekend to visit before I'm in my last month of pregnancy and unsure I want to go out of town, just in case. It may be ok though, because it's only about an hour and 40 mins away, and when my sister went into labor, her plan was to then travel to Taos which is maybe.. 2 1/2 hours away? That was the only facility she could find willing to do a water birth, but she didn't even wind up doing it because the warm water slowed her contractions too much.

Oh, and this weekend we finally bought the first thing for the baby! We hadn't bought a thing up until now, but we picked out the cheapest crib from Babies R Us, and it's the same as the one we had for Jade, only white instead of oak colored. Jade's is missing quite a few parts though, and we can't put it together, so a new one was in order!

Rue, I hope you get the tub drain cleared! You're right, the landlord should totally take care of that, and it sounds like it's been a problem for way too long!

Jurupamae, I'd totally lose my appetite for Chili's if that happened! At least for those dishes.. and I can't believe you both had hairs in your food! *gags*

Aliena, that salsa festival sounds so yummy! I've been craving spicy food...

roocee 04-02-2007 01:57 AM

Thanks fawN.

Yes, she did come today with her handyman husband and we now have a tub again. It's not totally fixed and now when it drains it goes all over the basement floor but we have huge storm drains down there.

When they dug up the back yard and replaced the pipe when we first moved in, they didn't connect the sink and tub to the new pipe. So he can't get back in here until Wednesday to connect it so he rigged it so we have it going directly into the drains in the floor in the basement. It's a bit wet down there right now but the humidifier will dry it up quickly.

There isn't anything of ours down there that would get ruined from the water so it's all good.

Aliena 04-02-2007 02:10 AM

fawN - you better avoid the spicy foods or it might send you into labor early! j/k.

We were faced with a dilemma like that. Hurricane Rita was on its way to our neck of the woods and I was due in 2 weeks. So we had to decide if we were going to risk evacuating to 4 hours away or if we were going to chance the barometric pressure change. In the end, we decided not to go anywhere and Rita actually swerved and we didn't even get any rain.

Are you having a boy or girl?

roocee - glad you've gotten that worked out! It sounded like a cruddy situation!

fawN 04-02-2007 02:20 AM

Not sure on the gender, although we tried to find out twice! The first time, the umbilical cord was right between the legs and we couldn't see, and the second, the legs stayed closed. I guess it wasn't meant to be known early! Jade was a surprise too, by my choice, and I was so sure she was going to be a boy! In high school I always dreamed that I had a toddler boy walking around me.

Rue, that's good they'll eventually get that hooked up to the new pipes. A similar thing happened a few years back at my parents' house where a small leak in the pipes drew in some tree roots which overgrew and clogged the pipes and eventually flooded the basement with sewer water, which was where all my bags of childhood toys and stuffed animals were! It was devastating to me, and took me years to get enough motivation to deal with sorting through and cleaning the ones that could be saved.

Aliena 04-02-2007 02:29 AM

I lost my childhood toys and stuffed animals too, but mainly because I was an idiot where they were concerned. We were in an apartment and had limited places to put things. We had an outdoor storage closet off our deck and so we locked some boxes and stuff in there that wouldn't fit in the house. Well, when it came time to move into our house, we went into the closet to get the boxes out. And of all the boxes in there, the stupid rats got into my toy one and chewed and pooped all over everything. Especially now, I'm disappointed that happened, as there were many things in there I would have wanted to pass on to Lauren.

Heh heh - I was actually happy when she was breach up until a week or so before she was born because I got to have another sonogram (they wouldn't give me another one otherwise) and had them check to make sure she was a girl because the first time, they said, "I think it's a girl," but they weren't positive.

fawN 04-02-2007 02:43 AM

I love that I got to pass on at least some of my old stuffed animals to Jade, like my multi-colored Popple, a panda bear, and then a couple big stuffed animals from my college days (ok, those ones aren't too old!) that she liked, including a big dolphin and a rottweiler which she's been carrying up and down between floors lately!

Some of the other stuffed animals I salvaged are now in our attic space we created by cutting a door-sized hole through Jade's 4th story closet, although we still have to lay some plywood down because it's mostly just 2x4's and insulation. This space was completely sealed off and inaccessible, but it makes a good storage space if we open it up and finish it! I wonder if any of the other 5 connected townhouses have discovered and used the space?

Mama Juru 04-02-2007 08:04 AM

yea, I don't think I'll be going to Chili's for a while. *shudder*

Rue: I'm glad that you got everything worked out, even if only temporarily. It'll be fixed for good in no time :)

We used to have a metal shed outside and that is where we had all of my old toys, some old records of my parents, and other random things. It snowed a lot one year and the roof on the shed caved in and we lost a lot of things. We were able to salvage my teddy bear (apparently when I got mad I would smack it and say damn you! lol) and this stuffed dog that my dad had won for me at this little carnival. This was the same carnival that I thought I would be brave (I was Jordan's age) and go on the zipper. My dad kept telling me I was going to get scared but I wouldn't listen. Sure enough I freaked out because I was so small I slid under the bar and was flopping around the cage like I was in the spin cycle in the washer. Now I'm just too fat to ride it, ;)

We still have a stuffed Simba that my daughter loved when she was little and Jordan loves (it is the ER toy). I hope that someday they pass it on to their kids if they have any.

Aliena 04-02-2007 12:51 PM

Yeah, we're going to make sure we keep Lauren's special things safely packed away. I did get my old set of Lok Bloks (MUCH better than Legos!) and a shape-sorter and massive Disney puzzle, and my sister has promised to share some of the My Little Ponies that made it into her box. I wish I could find these certain little blocks - I think they were called bristle blocks or Krinkles or something. I looked on Amazon and Ebay for them and they're almost 20 bucks for a package of 80! I loved those, things - probably am going to get some for Lauren in the next few months. Yay for our childhood toys making a comeback!

siaasgn 04-02-2007 01:07 PM

Good morning everyone!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend - mine was filled with napping and laundry and finishing a blanket that I first started making almost 10 years ago. I'll have to take a picture of it to show it off.

I need to get my house ready for Easter this week - we're having my boyfriend's family over and I'm cooking dinner for them. I'm expecting about 20 people.

I'm making a ham and green bean casserole and there will be some kielbasa with sauerkraut and some mac and potato salad. I also picked up a cheesecake factory cheesecake sampler for dessert.

Last year we went through about 6 pots of coffee so I have to make sure I pick some up before the weekend - no way I'm letting them drink all my Kona!!

What I think is kind of funny is that my boyfriend and I are almost completely non-religious and we're the ones hosting Easter.

Aliena 04-02-2007 01:37 PM

Good morning, sia! Sounds like you really did have a nice weekend and congrats on finishing the blanket! Wow, ten years! We'll definitely want to see a picture! And here, the thought of a year long cross-stitch project sounds daunting! :)

Off to start my day, Purkles! I hear my little one waking up. The parents are coming in town in a few hours and we're going to a Passover Seder tonight! Ya'll have a great Monday!

Dark_Maiden_Queen 04-02-2007 01:46 PM

Hello all ye purkle.. I so almost quit my job yesterday.. But yeah it all turned out good in the end. I was still kinda mad that they claimed I was lying about hurting my back at work.

siaasgn 04-02-2007 01:53 PM

That stinks dark - I hope things work out with that.

It took me 10 years because I kepy putting it down and not picking it up for long periods of time - not because it was complicated or anything. It's really just 12 large granny squares that I slip stitched together - I decided to do slip stitch because I liked the raised seam that I got form it.

I'm really good at starting a project and then putting it away and not touching it for years at a time.

Kaenai 04-02-2007 02:41 PM

  • I've been missing! D:
I guess I have a lot to catch up on, but first, congratulations Si, for finishing your knitting project! <3

I bet you did a great job [waits for pictures]

Dark :: I'm sorry you had a bad day at work - those jerks don't deserve you! D:

roocee 04-02-2007 02:55 PM

Man what a morning. I think today I will finally be caught up at work. I'm exhausted already.

Dark_Maiden_Queen 04-02-2007 03:14 PM

fawN 04-02-2007 03:16 PM

Good morning! Jade's on Spring Break now, so we got to sleep in, which is good because I woke up at 2:20am and couldn't get back to sleep until after 5:00.

I have this deep lung cough too which I'm not sure where I got it from, but I hope it doesn't get too bad or last too long! We have a few ideas of things to do together this week, but now it'll depend on how I feel and what she wants to do when! Right now she's wanting to play her disney princess pony computer game.

Dark_Maiden_Queen 04-02-2007 03:37 PM

oo i hope you get better. and good luck with her spring break xD.

Aliena 04-02-2007 03:43 PM

Dark - glad you worked things out with the job!

Kaenai - Welcome back! I noticed a bunch of people I see around were kind of quiet, but figured it must just be because it was the weekend.

roocee - Did you sleep ok last night? Hope you can get caught up!

fawN - Oh man, that sucks. I hate those kinds where you cough so hard, it just hurts! Hope it doesn't stick around too long!

And I am procrastinating now! Gotta do some last minute cleanup before my parents arrive, though!

Dark_Maiden_Queen 04-02-2007 03:45 PM

finish cleaning xD but yeah it worked out in the end and i got dinner there pizza for free so basicly a bunch of us were getting paid to eat free food on the job.. Boss left to califonia to get dogs adopted out there.

roocee 04-02-2007 04:42 PM

Yeah, I slept ok. I've just been running around here at work this morning and looked at the clock and it's after noon. Time flies when you are busy. I feel like I've put in a full day of work already.
