A little piece of history...

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was
manufactured in England . In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000
jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico ,
which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop
in New York .

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever
delivered to Mexico . But as we know, the great ship did not make it
to New York . The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was
forever lost. The people of Mexico , who were crazy about mayonnaise,
and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the
loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of
Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is
known, of course, as " Sinko de Mayo."

LOL @ Bipper! I have to share that one with my husband! He'll crack up!

Chimama - what's the name of the little town? I might know it. I was in Waco this past weekend, in fact - have a lot of family that live around there. I've only lived in the Dallas and Corpus areas, but there's a possibility we might relocate to Austin, Houston, or even the San Antonio area. I want to move, but at the same time, I don't.

roocee 04-28-2007 01:57 AM

ROTFLAMO Bippy. I needed that tonight.

always sounds like he is talking about a school.... he is from the Little River part of it...

Aliena 04-28-2007 05:29 AM

You know, it does sound like a school - like a prestigious private school or something! Heh heh...I've never heard of it.

Holy cow! I'm so close to actually completing my to-do list for today! I never complete my to-do lists! I always put too much on them on purpose. But I'm one away from being able to check everything off. Rock on!

EDIT - scratch that...I'm too tired to cross the last thing off on it! lol. Ah well. E for effort!

The Strange Visitor 04-28-2007 06:42 AM

I hate to do list. I never get anything done on my to do list. When I try to start on something on that list, I notice something that I had to do previously and continue working on from that point. So the to do list becomes a to do list for another day. :(

Aliena 04-28-2007 07:21 AM

I make one each night before I go to bed of my artsy things I want to accomplish for the next day.

Well, I am disappointed! And yes, still up, but about to go to bed. OK, an hour ago (at 1 am), I was thinking that it was bedtime, so I went onto the American Cancer Society Relay for Life website to find out when the cancer walk started in the morning, only to find out that the thing started at 7 pm tonight and ends at 7 am in the morning! Argh! I've been looking forward to walking in this thing for a month, raised my money, was so pumped about taking Lauren with her stroller to the track tomorrow and all, and I basically missed it! So, since my normal bedtime's around 2, I decided to just drive out there briefly. Luckily, I got in 4 walked laps and 1 ran one and got to chat with a friend, but blah! Only a little over a mile! The last walk I did was with the Heart Society or something and that was during the day, so I just figured that this was too.

So anyhow, I'm in, just had to gripe, and now I'm off to shower and bed for real this time! Oh please let Lauren sleep in in the morning! *crosses fingers*

G'night, Purkles!

The Strange Visitor 04-28-2007 07:33 AM

My mother is involved with American Cancer Society's Relay For Life here in California. She is one of the event organizers. She got into it about six years ago. Then, as fate would have it, contracted breast cancer herself. She had to have her entire right breast removed. But since she was with Kaiser at the time, they did the re constructive cosmetic surgery for her in the very same procedure. She has been cancer free now for more than five years. And what she went through only strengthened her desire to participate. After what she went through, she became one of the most vocal proponents for women's health here in the L.A. area. She has met with the governor, whom she dislikes, and spoke before the House committee on health last year. I really like what the relay stands for. My mother met some great people there that with their support made it easier for her to deal with the ordeal that she had to endure. I think that even if you only did one mile Aliena, it is more than enough to help raise awareness of this.

jellysundae 04-28-2007 02:39 PM

sorry you sort of missed your walk Aliena! it was an odd time for them to do it though :? all day would have seemed more sensible, or spead over a full 24 hours.
well done you at getting out to go walking at 1AM though! i can't see me ever doing that

i could never have a to do list, it would make me feel too guilty! because it would just get longer and longer..unless it said things like..

1.ignore housework.
2. sit on butt infront of computer all day.
3.drink lots of tea.

i could probably manage that

roocee 04-28-2007 03:04 PM

It's 11am here right now and I haven't gotten a shower yet, still in my pj's and haven't done one thing all morning. This is so bad.

Anyway, glad you were at least able to participate Aliena. That means alot. I used to walk in the 10k walk for the March of Dimes but I just am so out of shape anymore and it hurts my back to walk like that. I really need to get some of this weight off so I can walk more.

SV, I am so happy to hear about your mom and her struggles making her even more involved. Love stories like that. Kudos to her with her endeavors.

jellysundae 04-28-2007 03:08 PM

walking a little will help you on your way though Roo, if you have time, i know you're often prety busy, especially during the week.
i think that's why a lot of people end up getting out of shape, because they just don't have the time to look after themselves properly. day to day life is just to busy, and when you get some free time, you need to be able to relax, you don't want to be off somewhere working up a sweat!

roocee 04-28-2007 04:13 PM

Yes, I've been talking with a good friend I met through the purkle couch neo guild that has lost over 100lbs and she's giving me some very good tips on exercise that I can do to start out with so we shall see. Right now my goal is to be able to help with the cutting of the grass by the end of the summer. It's rather embarassing that I just am so out of shape.

Of course, there are other things I have been doing more of lately that have gotten me lots of exercise :P

jellysundae 04-28-2007 07:41 PM

;)

you keep it up Roo, there are many more ways than one to shed extra pounds, some of them far more enjoyable than others.. 8)

roocee 04-28-2007 07:56 PM

Tell me about it. Some that I never thought I would be doing at this point....lol.

jellysundae 04-28-2007 08:01 PM

the world is out there to suprise us Roo!
Never say never again and all that. Everything can change in the blink of an eye, and when it's for the better that's just great :D

roocee 04-28-2007 08:12 PM

That's for sure.

rotflmao yup and i was i love that one ill have to tell my mom.

roocee 04-29-2007 06:17 PM

Quiet here today.

jellysundae 04-29-2007 07:00 PM

it is isn't it!

must be a lovely day all over the world and everyone is outside taking advantage of it, everyone exect me that is because i'm too lazy!

but i WILL venture out tomorrow, even if it's only to buy some milk so i can have a cup of tea again

amersemt 04-29-2007 10:17 PM

Jelly, I'm not outside either...because I'm at work. :P Of course, I'm not much of an "outside person" from Spring to Fall because of my allergies. Sometimes it's just safer to be inside. It is very nice here today though. I guess we are expecting severe storms tomorrow. I'm actually a bit excited...I could go for a good thunderstorm. ;)

fawN 04-29-2007 10:36 PM

I'm not outside either, but it is a nice day and I've been wearing capris or shorts the last few days (granted, still my maternity stuff! I don't dare venture to see if I can fit in my old stuff yet, plus it's not even here, so ha!)

Today I was able to walk slowly up to the NICU without being wheeled up and I did ok. It was less of a walk than our misfortunate visit to Victoria's Secret yesterday to claim my free panties on the last day before the card expired, because Jason dropped me off at what we thought was the close entrance and then went to park, but it was the wrong entrance and quite a walk, and my incision was sore after that!! I'm also now able to reach my calves to shave my own legs and I can get in and out of cars unassisted, so progress!

Amber is making her own progress too! She reached 3 pounds today, so has gained 5 ounces in the last 6 days, which the nurse says is good. She also took her whole bottle feeding this morning, but the next one was tube-fed again. She'll need to take all 8 feedings per day by bottle before they let her go, plus be at a weight where she's able to keep her own body temperature while outside the incubator, and the nurse says the good news is that she'll probably reach this goal somewhere between 3lbs-4lbs because she's an older premie who's just small, compared to the age of the other 3-pounders in there. It's hard to give a time estimate, they say, but they're going with her leads!

jellysundae 04-29-2007 10:57 PM

Sounds like you're both doing really well!

it must be exciting to see Amber progressing daily like that! plus gratifying well you can witness yourself getting back to normal too, keep it up both of you 8)

luckycharm 04-29-2007 11:28 PM

Wii!!!! I finally purchased one this morning! I also purchased the new Super Paper Mario. They didn't have Zelda or Raving Rabbids (I think that's how they're spelling it), so Super Paper Mario it is! I've already played for a bit and love it! I love the fact that you actually get to move a bit when your playing they sports games that come with the console. The only thing I'm a bit confused about is that I had heard that we should be able to play Cube games on it. I put in a cube game.....I see the beginning of the game.....but I can't actually play the game. I guess I'll have to look into this a bit. I would really like to not have both consoles.....to many things...esp since I also have a PS2. I don't need to have 3 consoles lying around. Now I just need to save some money to purchase Dr. Who.... :D

Fawn- I'm so happy to hear that Amber is doing so well and gaining weight! I hope you will be able to take her home very soon!

roocee 04-30-2007 01:31 AM

That's wonderful news FawN. I'm glad to hear Amber is gaining steadily and that you are doing well.

magikjaz 04-30-2007 10:43 AM
