For the past 2 weeks, i have been dieting and excerising, but for some reason, my body just does not like to give up it's weight. I mean I've only really lost 5 to 10 pounds, and been varring every day there. So it is pissing me off.

But anyways. Yeah, I find it hard in the begining to start dieting and give up certain things. But after awhile, I think it gets easier as you get not use to things.

Spring`Tyme Fresh 04-18-2007 06:31 PM

  • Since starting college, the weight has piled on.

It seems the same with others from my old school too. I fail sooo bad at dieting.

I believe i could do the exercise and give up the food, but my mum always buys it and i always feel hungry. Even when i've had a decent lunch i can still feel hungry afterwards. =|

I wish i could get over that. I think then i would have much more success.

Well, I don't diet (I'm lucky and I don't need to), but aside from eating healthy and organic foods, I've found that Grape Nuts really fills you up in the morning, and you don't need much! Tastes great with a sprinkling of unrefined cane sugar and some fresh berries.

Flaregon 04-18-2007 06:49 PM

diets Don't work you just put on 8 time what you lost.it's better to just eat good food and stop worrying,as long as you eat right and get off your ass for even 30 minutes you will be fine.

LunaMiel 04-18-2007 06:52 PM

  • I don't diet alot, but I like to eat healthy! I love fruits and things like that. <3

Shagami 04-18-2007 07:04 PM

Ha the Diets For some people it just doesnt work (like me) i tried a bunch of different diets and none of them worked for me ;_; So i had to resort to surgery. I had the gastric Bypass surgery in aug of 2005. Its been what a year and about 7 monhts? I was 265lbs day of my surgery now im 150lb and i keep losing I went from a size 26 in womans to a size 10 in womans, 12 in misses/Jrs, even my feet got skinny. I went froma size 9 shoe to an 8 =3.
I cant have soda or greasy/fatty foods anymore. I gotta watch what i eat and how much. I can only eat about 2 bites and im full, however becuz of this i gotta eat about every 3 hours or i get a horrible stomache ache.

For me the surgery was worth it, i do miss soda everyonce in a while and i miss eating some foods. I just stick to veggies and rice cakes however im a Sunflower seed addict so i cant do long without same.

I remeber my diet after the srugery for 2 weeks i couldnt eat anything but clear liquids. everything has to be watered down (blech watered down apple jusice ><)
i had to take portien power mixes and man those made me throw up ><
after 2 weeks i could start on regular liquids like jucie from beans and whatnot. a month after that i was able to move on to soft and mushy foods like baby food and mash potaotes. 2 weeks after that i could have anythhg that could be blenderized a month of that i got to finally eat soild foods again. believe me eat like that for that amount of time and youll lose weight fast too xD

I lived off Soup for like 3 months ><
how i can eat a WHOLE can of soup by myself over a period of an hour or so xD

I've been trying to avoid coming into this thread. Dieting is my vice. It's my crack. I used to be very unhealthy about it so it still scares me to really think of having a good diet as being "dieting" as the word has been come to known.

Any diet needs to contain foods from every food group and excersize. If you are cutting out any food group you are going to hurt yourself. If you're not excersizing your weight loss will only be temporary. Anyone who loses weight on diet alone will gain it back. You have to work out.

Some tips:
Cut out as much red meat and pork as you can. Get your protein from chicken, fish and nuts instead. The fats in red meat and pork are some of the worst there are.
Try to eat six-seven small meals versus three large meals. Eating more often will keep your blood sugar at normal levels, lessening fatigue and cravings.
Have a small snack every day! Denying yourself will only make you crave it more. If you get your sweets every day you'll crave it less.
Don't feel bad about a sudden splurge! Everyone's will breaks every now and again. You don't have to make up for it, be more strict the next day, overexcersize, etc. Just go on like you never had that break down. It's okay to do once in a while.
Give yourself one day a month to be a "no diet" day. That day you're not allowed to count calories or anything like that.

Do not eat prducts that say light, diet, fat-free, low-fat, etc. Most contain chemicals that will actually slow your metabolism. The rest do not actually have any less calories/fat/etc, the serving size is just smaller. The one exception is dairy products (except for yogurt).

Making diet without eating is the worst O.o It can produce irreversible carrence and can lead to obesity.
And do sport. It won't make a difference at first but it help accustuming the body later.

Light think with aspartame is a joke O.o so taking diet coke won't help at all O.o The body think it's sugar anyway and assimilate it like sugar >.< Silly body...

I saw some people going to McDonald and taking a salad and a light coke O.o That's so strange >.< as a coke will do the same to your body anyway.

Avoiding dinner aren't the best too... You can't do that all our life.

The best diet is the make yourself a new way of eating and doing it all your life. That's all. Going to a nutrionist - a good one - can help.

I don't think I'm really dieting as I mostly eating what I want. I just make compromise

I agree with you 100%!!!
I haven't removed anything completley out of my diet. I know my eating habits, and what I like to snack on, so I have just made compromise!
Anything overly salty or sweet has been replaced with yummy lo-cal options.
I drink coffee in the morning, water all day, and tea before bed. No soda here!
Having worked at McDonalds for 3 years I know that their "healthy" options are a joke. You may think you are being smart grabbing a salad, but the dressing they give you has just as many calories as a big mac.
Same with most of the muffins. haha a complete joke!!!

@ Stilettolover: Thanks for your advice!!
Again, I agree with you completley, and have molded my "diet" very much like that!
I know that I can't lose this weight from cutting back only on food, and it's kind of weird calling it a diet, because I'm not counting calories so much as just trying to make a complete lifestyle change! I'm trying to consume healthier choices, and so far it feels like it's working!!
Its been less than a week, but with the way I've been eating and the excersize I've been getting I feel better than I have for years!!
I'm actually just finishing my lunch right now, and then I'm going out for a couple hours of excersize. I am actually excited to get out... thats crazy for me, I'm usually the laziest person around haha!

My mom has given me help and wisdom and encouragment in the past.
She is my weight loss role model. My mom hauled ass last year and lost over 60 pounds! She looks STELLAR!! So I know I can look up to her.
One of the things she told me is that your first week of dieting, you will make the biggest difference, losing anywhere from 5-7 pounds.
After that, your body slows down with its loss and you will only lose about 1-3 pounds a week. That may seem small, but it's still a change. The biggest thing is to stick with it! Motivate yourself and celebrate every loss even if it's only .5lbs.... thats still progress!!
Don't give up okay?

Cyzzane 04-18-2007 08:06 PM

I;ve lost almost 60 pounds on the lifestyle change that I chose. I used weight watchers as a pattern and that worked well for me since I needed the very linear and mathematical way of looking at weight loss and gain.

But it's very very important to NOT look at something as a 'diet' because you'll have to stick with what ever you choose for the rest of your life in order to maintain the weight loss that you acheive. I spent months shopping around different diets for the one I thought I would be able to make fit my lifestyle and adopt to any lifestyle changes I'd need to make. Thusly I made my decscion only after spending the time looking at different plans and seriously debating with myself about whether or not it would realistically be something I COULD change for the rest of my life.

That said, I've had good luck with my plan and though it hasn't always been a rapid weight change I've set a goal to have lost the 100 pounds I needed to by a year which I'm honestly close to acheiving. I average a weight loss of 8-10 pounds a month, sometimes more sometimes less depending on HOW I'm eating at the time. I've also started a regimen of exercise that includes both cardio and weight training to help my body balance and tone the flabby areas while I'm losing the weight.

The exercise will also help if you get stuck on a plateu which I've just recently gotten over one so I'm quite glad to put that behind me. Another important point to consider is talking with your doctor about different weight loss plans ( I'm NOT talking about pills here - because who the hell wants to take a pill for the rest of their life to say fit?). Also decide WHY you want to lose weight. I had several reasons behind mine but the main concerns was being healthy because of weight related problems in my family and recovering after a snowboarding injury from 5 years ago. My secondary reasons were for my self-image and because I was just tired of being overweight.

Make sure that you're NOT losing weight for ANYONE other that yourself. You can use others as motivation but make sure that it's something that YOU want because then you're 9 times more likely to stick with it. Also make sure it's something that will fit your lifestyle and any changes you'll face in the next several years - so pick something flexible.

I'm always open for questions and such so if you'd like to talk you can MSG me or PM me here.

First, CONGRATS on your amazing weight loss!!! You're almost to your goal and thats AMAZING!!! I'm really happy for you!

Don't worry, I'm doing this purley for myself :)
I don't have that much weight to lose. Overall about 25-30 pounds. Compared to the 60 you've already lost thats nothing! But I have wanted to do it for so long and I just kept giving up!
But I've set up a realistic plan for myself this time around, and I have a pretty strong support network going and I think this time I can actually stick to it and start to see results!
The most amazing thing is that I'm actually finding myself EXCITED to go out and excersize, and to do my free weights at night.
I have never been excited about excersize in my adult life... it's always been a chore!
But I see a bright future for me, and it helps that its been gloriously sunny out lateley, and that I have some AWESOME songs to work out to. :D :D
I will definetley take the chance to PM you if I feel like it!
But don't be a stranger to the thread!
I'd like to make this kind of a hangout for people trying to make the change 8)
If that ever happens I'll probably ask this thread to be moved to menewsha nation or somethin!

violetfaerie 04-18-2007 08:17 PM

I dun't diet.

I believe eating in moderation...you shouldn't leave off foods you should be careful how much you eat of them :o

Plus, the best way to lost weight is through excerise. Anytime I wanna shed pounds...workout here i come 8)

sars 04-19-2007 07:33 PM

My friend suggested a system that she found worked for her. I got a sheet of little sparkly star stickers, and I give myself a sticker everyday I excersize and eat well.
Its kinda "kindegarten" but it's actually pretty fun to look forward to giving yourself a star at the end of the night!
I've got a chance to give myself stars for the last 4 days!
Going for day 5 today!

I just started using Weight Watchers a couple months ago, and it's one of the best things I've ever done for my body. I don't consider it necessarily a "diet" because it's all about proportions and controlling how you eat so that it will become a habit.

I have never lost weight in my entire life due to undiagnosed thyroid problems, but Weight Watchers combined with a good dose of thyroid really set me straight. I've lost 13 pounds so far. I still have a lot to go, but just starting to lose weight at all is a huge success for me.

So, I may sound like a WW plug, but I swear, it's done miracles.

CONGRATS!!!!
Don't worry about sounding like a walking advertisment!
Its always nice to hear that commercial diets actually work for people!
My mom used Weight Watchers as I was growing up, but it never really worked for her until recently. She tried to help me about a year ago giving me weight watchers based charts and stuff, but I found that too hard... to count the points and stuff. Too disciplined for me... so it never ended up working for me.
I'm stoked that it is working for you though! thats awesome!
Whats your goal?

Yeah, it's really amazing. I'd not really known how bad my eating habits had gotten.

I'm such a lazy person when it comes to diets, so I did the WW online thing, because I'm always fooling around on the internet. So I just think "Oh I had a hamburger and a banana" and write it down. Though I don't eat hamburgers. lol

My goal is 120-130. I'm only 5'4", so I'd like to be on the smaller end of that.

xLightsOutx 04-19-2007 08:12 PM

I am so bad at dieting ;__; I really love candies and desserts.
I'm attempting to exercise more and eat less junk food, but it's been a real challenge for me XD;

I'm the same height as you! and my weight goal is actually the same!
In my 4 days of dieting so far, I've lost a pound and a half haha.
I'm taking baby steps. Ultimately, I'd like to weigh in around 116-120 (I have a suuuuper small frame, so I know that I would still be healthy and curvy at 116) but my first goal is actually 140. I have 6.5 pounds to lose to meet that goal. Then after that, 130! Baby steps!
It seems to be working for me. I'm more motivated than I've ever been. I know this sounds horrible, but I've never actually stuck with a diet this long (and I'm only on day5.... sheesh! I'm inpatient!) so this is a brilliant thing for me.

I feel so lame being this hyped about dieting and losing weight... really, I do. But I know its what i need to do to keep excited about it.

How do you stay on track?
You've been doing it for a couple months... some tips would be wonderful!

That's excellent! I'm so glad you're motivated! Yeah, if you can keep excited about it, that helps sooo much!

For me, part of it is that my parents are paying for the service, and I feel bad if I don't keep up. Also, I am seeing results, so that helps me stay on track because I know that I'm doing well. Of course, I mess up once in a while and go eat something I shouldn't, but just knowing that I can have a salad or something the next day and make up for it really helps.

Also, if you find body role models-- like, I want to look like Rachel Luttrell lol-- then you can always look at that person and say, "This is what it will take to get there." :D

I DID have more poll options, but I think Mene caps it at three... cuz I had 5, and only three came up :?

Thats awesome that you lost weight last summer!

Oh thats a good tip!
I think my body role model is Scarlette Johnason. Mostly just because she's busty... and even if I lose a lot of weight, I'm still gonna have huge honkers. Also, she's thin but curvy still.
I definetley do not want to go the Nicole Richie way! I'd still like to have some womanly curves thanks! lol!

I was momentarily mad at myself last night because I had a snack attack at 1:30am while I was sitting in bed reading.
But i reasoned that it was OK because I only ate 3 Caramel flavored rice cakes haha, theres worse things I could have been eating... like the chocolate easter bunnies I have in my room still.
Good thing I don't really favor chocolate, huh?

Awww, I bet you can do it! Even if you have gained 15 back, that's still a total loss of 25 lbs. It's phenomenal that you lost so much over spring and summer. I gained that much my senior year of high school in as much time. Blah. So yeah, go you!

Oh she's pretty. So is Selma Hayek. Gorgeous, but not like two bones and a skull put together.

Yeah! That's a good way of putting it! And it's nice that you don't like chocolate. That is a downfall for many people. Stupid Chocolate making us like it and then making us fat... :x

Funny how it's always easier to GAIN weight than it is to lose said weight, huh? :?
I gained a lot of weight in college... I was in the Theatre program, and I had a lot of responsibility. I was basically at school 17 hours a day working on various productions and stuff. It was mega high stress, and the cafeteria was always closed when I was hungry, so I ordered a lot of chinese food and lots of vending machine snacks. Then I just didn't care for a year, and now I'm determined to get back down to my highschool weight!
