APRIL 6/09 UPDATE
Hello my fellow Menewshans! I was hanging around today. A gorgeous sunny day. Sitting on my bum. On Mene. And I remembered, with fondness, this lovely thread I created almost exactly 2 years ago. This thread was a helpful tool to myself and others. Personally, through this support network on mene, I was able to lose 15 pounds. Those pounds have all since come back... and so I have in turn come back to THIS THREAD!
Please feel free to join me in another "diet"
I know from experience that there is seriously so much we can do for eachother to reach our goals!
WELCOME TO THE DIET THREAD!
I originated this thread in April of 2007 when I wanted to begin a diet. I thought that having a support group of like-minded people would be an awesome way to go about getting the motivation to keep on keeping on. And guess what? IT WORKED!
Many people joined in with intentions of making a change in themselves for the better. Some fell by the wayside, and some went on to acheive great success.
Eventually though, the thread kind of... died.
But we're back! And we're hoping to be better than ever!
If you want to lose weight, or just make a change to be healthier, please join us! Share your successes, your struggles.... and your healthy and delicious recipes!
NOTE: As per my prior arrangments with my support network offline, MY weigh in day is Monday. It would be great if you all could all report your progress every monday as well, And I will update under your profile in a heading called "Progress" (if you would like me to, that is.)
PLEASE feel free to chat in this thread DAILY about problems you are facing, or techniques you have found that really work for you! Post about your daily successes or setbacks.

Diet/Exercise Plan: I am going to start slowly. Cut out the bad habits I have developed one by one. 3 meals a day. Lots of veg. Lots of water. I'm going to walk home from work every day.... and eventually I will start walking TO work as well. this will help me get about an hour of excersize a day. Eventually I will implement hour-long walks on my days off as well. I will update this plan as I ease myself into it all.
PROGRESS: Reviing this thread is a good start.

I've been dieting for over a year now and have had good results, though I've hit a plateau as of late. I'm sure what I really need to do is get some real exercise, but when it comes down to it I'm lazy and I have kind of an anxiety about working out with other people around. o__o;
I've been on a low carb diet which I know some people don't agree with, but it's working for me. I just can't do the low fat diets -- it's too bland for me to be able to stick to. I don't mind getting rid of sugar -- I can still have plenty of the healthy fats.

I have 10lbs that I want to loose, and I cannot figure out how to do it. I really should exercise, but I am too lazy for that.
Besides, why exercise when I could be on menewsha?

I like eating healthy but I have an issue with being hungry all the time. My doctor says that eating more meats will help eliminate hunger.
I rarely eat candy or junk food. 'My' junk food usually consists of apple chips, trail mix and fruit snacks.
I eat a lot of rice and noodles and veggies... They are the biggest portion of my diet.
I try to exercise at least once a week... I'm sooo lazy about it though.
I' currently 5'3" and 111 LBS. I'm not so much worried about weight though. After all, muscle weighs more than fat. But I am worried about losing some unwanted flabbiness. My goal is to fit into this cute swimsuit my friend got me before Summer... I don't know if that's going to happen though ^.^;

My issue is more being underweight. But I do find the more I watch my weight, the more consciously I eat. But other than that I don't really have a diet, I eat a hell of a lot of junk food but still am losing weight. ^^; I honestly think depression is making me LOSE weight rather than gain as most do.

I managed to lose 20 pounds and keep it off, but lately I have not been eating very well and I haven't lost any more weight in well over a year. :(

Woooo. I am releived to see that I'm not the only one who's dieting...
Congrats to those of you who dieted successfully and kept the weight off!!
I have about 25lbs to lose... but I'm pretty sure I can get it done this time around :wink: I've got encouragment from my 2 best friends... my sister and my best pal Kait!
Tonight Kait drove me to Wal-Mart (cuz I dont have a car) and I bought a scale so I can obsessover er... I mean... track my weight loss... I bought a pilates ball for squats and crap, and I bought two 3lb free weights.
I used the weights for 15 minutes tonight (since I didn't get out walking today) and I'm gonna go do my squats after I type this.
I already have my breakfast and lunch and dinner planned out for tomorrow. I'm quite excited!
Weigh in day is monday.
I weighed myself today and I didn't actually weigh more than I thought (thankfully) I came in at 148.5 which I've been hovering around for the last 2 years.
My goal for monday is 145. I think I can manage that! I like this... it's a challenge... I like to challenge myself!! woooo!
Sorry, I'm just excited haha.
All you people with fast metabolisms.... I'm jealous! hahah!

I suck at diets. o-o; But I try, my stomach has grown a load of inches though. xD It's my mass that's my problem. ==# My stomach used to be bigger than my breasts now they're about a few centimeters smaller than it. B] xD

I'm not good with diets at all, or at least the one that I've actually tried before and failed miserably at. My mom is on Weight Watchers, so at one point she forced me to join it too, which didn't last very long.
It wasn't that it didn't work, I did lose a bit of weight, but counting points for the food I ate was just a hassel and I was always still kind of hungry after I had used all of my points for the day since I didn't get very many to begin with. So I ended up quitting and going back to my normal way of eating.

The best diet is to make compromise. Forbidding junk food will only make the body wanting it even more and produce bad consequence when will only take one. Just eat one from time to time is okay.
The only thing to do is to eat heatly and prevent excess. Making excess for only one day a week is okay.
Making diet without eating is the worst O.o It can produce irreversible carrence and can lead to obesity.
And do sport. It won't make a difference at first but it help accustuming the body later.
Light think with aspartame is a joke O.o so taking diet coke won't help at all O.o The body think it's sugar anyway and assimilate it like sugar >.< Silly body...
I saw some people going to McDonald and taking a salad and a light coke O.o That's so strange >.< as a coke will do the same to your body anyway.
Avoiding dinner aren't the best too... You can't do that all our life.
The best diet is the make yourself a new way of eating and doing it all your life. That's all. Going to a nutrionist - a good one - can help.
I don't think I'm really dieting as I mostly eating what I want. I just make compromise

I normally don't bother with diets... probably the only reason I don't way 300lbs is because I also very rarely eat. So, I get very little exercise, and eat bad food... but I only eat once a day. If that.
But hey, if you're ever forced to eat meals largely consisting of rice and walk wherever you want to go, that's a great way to lose weight. When I lived in China, I ate like a horse two or three times a day... but since it was all Chinese food and since I had to walk everywhere I wanted to go, I ended up losing over 20 lbs. Which I gained back like, a month after I got home. >.<

I ahve a very high metabolism, so the only diet I've ever had to be with was to gain a few pounds to be heavy enough for my height to enlist in the Armt Reserve.
I ate like 5 bananas and drank a bunch of water to make the weight requirement.

Gosh, dieting...u 3u the bane of my existance!
I run at least twice a day on the treadmil we have at home for an hour or close to that. I also like to do sit-ups (I cannot do press ups no matter HOW HARD i try XD) at least 300 of them, holding small weights in both my arms. If I snack, I like to do so on cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots cut into chunks; they help curve food cravings and are largely water based, so I don't get much weight from them. I also walk to & from my school every day, and I have a horse who I ride for at least an hour every other day or so. I find that if I eat smaller portions of good food, I actually get fuller easier than binge eating lotsa carb-high stuff. I actually really enjoy controlling what I eat, it gives me a sense of accmplishment when I wave away snacks and choco; although from time to time I'll treat myself and have a few bites of sweets. XD

I'm on a special diet, but not to loose weight. I have a paralyzed stomach, so I can't eat more than 20g of fat and 10g of fiber a day. At first it was really hard, I was dying for fish and chips and things like that. But I've been at it since October of 06, and have to be on it at least three years - so things have settled into a rhythm for me. The only real problem I have with it is that I'm not really loosing weight, and I can't dietdiet to do so, because of my stomach.

When I eat small amounts in the day, every couple of hours, I don't put on weight at all :] Even when it's junk food, xD but i'm odd and my junk food is berries ;]]]

My mom is going to take me to powerplate lessons (I'm too lazy to go out and sport XD, she has to DRAG me there)
