The only other language other then english that I can speak is french; and only because I was forced at an early age to speak it at school.
here in Canada you learn it from kindergarden to grade 9, anything above that is purely by choice.
I actually got the french award in grade 8.. go me! XD

oh dear, a language thread.
well i'm a native english speaker, but apparently i have my own dialect because i talk so weirdly.

and i've had this dream since i was very small to learn as many languages as i possibly could, but it's taking a long time since i'm pretty incompetent when it comes to learning something new.

as to languages i'm trying to learn at the moment:
my french and japanese are subpar, mandarin and korean are slightly less.
i only know a few words in russian and german, and gaelic and hindi have yet to stick at all. ;_;

hrm... no wonder i'm starting to get worse at english. XD

Pues, yo hablo un poco de español, pero es muy mal - específicamente mi vocabulario. xD;; Aeith es demasiado perezosa en la clase de español. > 3>

The funny thing is that I used to speak Spanish with my friends and aunt until I was about 6 - I actually was fluent O_o- and forgot nearly everything after I switched out of the school...

Anyways. Right now, I'm teaching myself Japanese and Russian. My dad speaks a bit of Russian, so he's helping me. C:

After that, I want to work on more German, French, Korean, Mandarin, Latin, Portugese, uhh... and more? xD;;

My school was Clark High School in Las Vegas.
A know atleast one Vegas HS offered Latin, but I don't think it was very popular.

And I think in sixth grade I took one semester of German. It was called Explorations or something, and then made us cycle around semesters with different subjects. I remember absolutely none of that German.
xD

Actually, I have never taken the time to learn a new language. Although, I find it very cool to learn one. Learning about cultures is really cool!

I just speak English. But I'm learning Spanish and trying to learn Japanese. I'm trying with whatever I can find~ I memorize only things that interest me sadly. Also, I want to learn some French. I understand it's hard and all, but it sounds fun~

I can speak very very little chinese, vietnamese, and manderin(sp?). :3

I can say simple stuff in Japanese. :]

Though, I wish I could talk Indonesian or something like that, since I was born there. XD.

Though my first language is English I've been taking Japanese for several years now (its my major) and I like to think I'm able to hold a pretty decent conversation in it. I also know a BIT of spanish...basically I can ask where things are and how people are.

Scribble Me Orange; What Charisma said. ;]

D'oú est tu?

Aeith, that's a lot of languages! :D Only words I couldn't understand were demasiado and perezosa..?
Russian is awesome, but I've heard it's hard. And Japanese is great. Are you learning off the internet or do you have some books or..? I know about this really good Japanese teaching site, Japanese-online.com I think it's called. I used it when I was starting out, and I liked it a lot. It's free, too. :]

Salut, Itachi, ça va? :]

[Rose], both Spanish and French are really great, and so is Japanese. I also recommend to you the site I linked Aeith to here above, it's really good. *Nods*
French and Spanish have a bit more grammar than English, but the vocabulary isn't all that different, since English has taken quite a lot of words from Latin and Spanish and Italian evolved from Latin and all (I think?).

Mermy, ooh, lots of Asian languages. o_o I wish I knew more Asian languages, they are awesome. ._.

I speak relatively fluent English and my mother tongue is Mandarin but I only say I'm semi-fluent at it because I'm not that great, especially when it comes to reading and writing.

=O Whoa that's so cool.

I can speak English and well I took Spanish in elementary but you don't learn much from there.XD Just basics plus I forget most of it.

I took French1 my freshman year, skipped French last year and am taking it this year and will continue next year.

I'm not that great at it.xD Sometimes I have a hard time rememebering it, although I have a great memory.
I just need to study more.
I want to continue learning it after highschool though.
I also want to learn at least German and Japanese.:3
