That was a while ago, though I wasn't around for the first event here - my first event here was the St. Patrick's Day event in '07. :)

@Suzhi: Oh, goodness no, it can't kill you. *shakes head* It might give you a shock like when you drag your feet on carpet and then touch someone, but it won't kill you.
The best way to keep static electricity from building up while building a desktop would be to have a proper workstation to put it together in with no carpet while wearing little or no clothing... :sweat: But some people would consider that to be pretty extreme. At the very least, you would want to keep the components in the protective wrapping right up until you're ready to put them in the tower. At the same time, you want to keep the tower and yourself from moving around as much as possible to avoid building up static electricity. You'd also want to touch a metal doorknob or something like that every so often (NOT while holding any of the computer hardware) to discharge any static electricity that may have built up in your body. :yes:

@secrets: Well, I start my Christmas shopping early because of the limited amount of time I have at home to be able to go out and do it because of my job. If it weren't for my job, I'd probably wait about another month to start my Christmas shopping, honestly :lol:

@Suzhi: :rofl: No, you don't have to do all that. I just said that that would be the best way to do it. Most people have carpeting throughout their homes in all the areas where someone would have enough room to put a comp together (except for a garage. But, if you're garage is like mine is, you'd have vehicles and other random things in the way. So you wouldn't have enough room to put a comp together in there anyway). Therefore, since you'd likely be on carpet while putting the comp together, that would be where the "not moving around much" and the "touching a metal doorknob" comes into play ;)

@Suzhi: Nah, I haven't bought any of the new hardware yet. And I need to get my Christmas shopping done before I buy anything for myself. But, once I buy all the parts I'd need and am ready to put it all together, then I could probably have it built in about an hour. Installing the BIOs and the OS, however... That'd take a while... :sweat:
