See, I always thought Otakon was oh so amazing.
Then I got to go to AX last year and now, ... well my loyalties lie with AX. xD

UGH. Well I've got to get a cosplay done before I can plan these cons.
Because, I know I don't need to cosplay at a con, but ... I just feel so sad when I see everyone else dressed up and I'm not, ya know? Tis saaad.

Sagitar 03-01-2009 03:14 PM

omg someone has spoken.. x3 long time no talk. I've been on and off Menewsha reasently..

anyway, I have not been in any anime convention in a year! :o this is horrible! BUT I'm already working on two new cosplays :)
First one is Yuuhi Kurenai from Naruto, I've done her white dress thingie already..
the second one is Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy ^^
I am only doing her though IF I have the time to finish making the knit jacket she has.. I have like 10 days to do it maybe.. and by 10 days I mean 6 hours a day.

Lilith W 03-01-2009 07:43 PM

I just went to Kawa Kon and made a kimono for it. It wasn't very good though because I actually sewed it the day of the convention.
And the end of this month I'm going to Anime St. Louis. Then June 5 I'm going to OMG con, and in November I'm going to Bishie con.

fiarra 03-01-2009 08:06 PM

Sagitar! Long time no see. :)

I'm not going to my first convention of the year until May... which is sad, but it means I have time to plan. I want to fix up my Chidori costume and then I want to make a Lucky Star uniform so I can go as the pink haired girl with the glasses. (Miyuki) :)

Yeah, I know.. ^^;
been away so much

My next con isn't until July or August D= I have to wait that long...

IRK3N 03-02-2009 05:55 PM

Talking about cons.
I -MUST- go to A-kon now.
My fave band is gonna be playing there!
>w< LM.C!

Kagaku 03-03-2009 04:01 AM

what the- When did they announce LM.C was gonna be there!? O__O Now I have to go by any means necessary!!

And hello everyone.*waves*

IRK3N 03-03-2009 04:22 AM

http://www.a-kon.com/bm/News/lmc-to-...his-year.shtml

There.

AND OMG YOU LM.C FAN TOO? >w<
I can't wait. I turn into this crazy flaily spazoid when LM.C and live and USA are in the same sentence. xD

Kagaku 03-03-2009 04:38 AM

*squeals* Oh god. I must go! o_____o
YES I AM! >3<
You're not the only one! I've always wanted them to play at a con since there'd be a bigger chance of me going! And now the dream has come true! *o*

IRK3N 03-03-2009 02:13 PM

Hehe, awesome to hear it!
I went to see them when they came last July too, to LA.
They played the "Battle of the Bands" show at Anime Expo, and then had their own stand alone show and Crash Mansion LA on that Saturday.
IT WAS AMAZING >w<
And I must see them again.
I wonder if there will be any other events for them, or if the concert is it?

Sagitar 03-03-2009 03:47 PM

How small is the world..

Oh yeah, That's right. I forgot they played at AE. I was on the other side of the states though so there wouldn't have been a chance of me going lol.
I'm sure the concert isn't the only thing they have in mind for them, at least I hope not. Cons usually have more than that planned for thier bands, right? Else the bands would come for a one night show. Unless they were really excited to preform here XD

IRK3N 03-03-2009 05:25 PM

@ Kagaku ~ Haha, I'm on the other side of the states as well, but I totally went. xD
And I hope there are more events with them, omg >w<

Kagaku 03-03-2009 08:56 PM

@ IRK3N- Oh wow really? Where about if you don't mind my asking? o.o
That would be so awsome. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

fiarra 03-04-2009 12:40 AM

Sagitar: I was almost going to have to wait till August. T_T Mostly because of rooming issues for May. Luckily it's gotten sorted out. Although I guess May is closer than I think and I really ought to get a move on.

I don't even know what special guests will be at Anime Boston this year... maybe I should find out. xDD

adorably_evil 03-04-2009 05:05 AM

Anyone here going to Sakura Con this April in Washington? I'm going. Girugamesh, Hangry and Angry, and SmileDK are going to be performing there. I can't wait ^_^

I wish I could go to A-kon. I don't have the money though. I'm already going to three other cons this year and am moving to Oregon next year, so yeah. I'm going to be tight on money for awhile -_-'

Kagaku 03-05-2009 05:39 AM

Saddly no. I love too far away to attend. Plus, if I wanna go to A-Kon, I can't go cause I am poor and barely have money for A-Kon XD;

IRK3N 03-07-2009 08:08 AM

@ Kagaku ~ I'm from Pennsylvania.
I'm hardcore crazy LM.C <3

Anyakan 03-08-2009 10:25 PM

This Thread needs more pictures! Franziska Von Karma to the rescue!

Kagaku 03-09-2009 05:39 AM

@ IRK3N- Holy crap! XD I hope you can go!

@ Anyakan- Oh no! Poor Phoenix! D: That reminds me of a Franziska that was out our Ace Attorney photo shoot last year. She did that to a Gumshoe and literally scared him away. We spent an hour hunting him down and he stayed a total of 5 minutes XD

Anyakan 03-09-2009 06:02 AM

Hahaha, no, the gumshoe I tortured was my Bf, he stayed put. I also got to torture other phoenix's and gumshoes. One saw me in a line and couldn't escape. the poor gumshoe just went "Oh NoOo!" and ducked down like I wouldn't see him. I only went after cosplayers that seemed friendly and willing to be in character by responding to me in character.. which was about every Phoenix Wright player there. We are such a fun fan base.

Her boots melted from the heat, the skirt needs to be redone, the whip was cracked by some idiot so I need to redo the paper mache to get that leathery look. I am thinking about adding boning to the vest to taper it in, since her outfit (regardless of how thick the materials are) are form fitting on her.

At the moment I am making new boots from a pair of knee high, high heeled boots I found on clearance in a shoe store. I cut them to be ankle length and have ripped out the liner from the excess pieces. I cut out the zipper from the top part and sewn both of them as cuffs. I have to sew them to the boot to hang over them like cuffs now, but I want to make sure I get the shape right before doing it for real.
I've been using this fishing line looking thread, since it's stronger. The leather makes my needles dull though. It's tedious by hand.

FeyonaSaibre 03-10-2009 03:12 AM

You sound like you really know what you're doing though. I really suck at making cosplay costumes. I've got next to nothing in sewing skill so that's probably why.

Kagaku 03-10-2009 04:40 AM

I'm in the same boat, Feyona. |D I can't sew worth crap. I've gotten sort of good at finding things in thrift stores that are either perfect or near perfect for cosplay though =D

@ Anyakan- Wow! Sound slike you got it all together on what you need to do. Hope it all works out for you! =D

Anyakan 03-11-2009 03:01 AM

Actually I know very little about sewing outside of military stitches by hand. Which is what I have been using. My vest and shirt were done by my Bf's mom after I looked in thrift stores for the clothes. We cut off the sleeves of a suit shirt and ripped out the lining. We attached a bow made from wedding ribbon and pinned it to the collar of the shirt. The white shirt was made from two extra large men's shirts. One we cut like a vest, the other we used for the sleeves so they were much larger and puffy. I need to find better reinforcements for the puff though, it's annoying to fluff for 5 minutes only to have some person squish your shoulder over and over.

The skirt was a longer one I had to use last minute duct tape on to hem it. The buttons and brooch were made of this light foam that was like a lighter version of sculpy clay. Painted them and sprayed the one piece to look like metal. We hot glued them to little squares of vinyl that we had sewn into the shirt where needed. The large buttons on the vest are just blue foam cut outs from Magic Foam. We used piping glue to make the yellow. The shoes where my heeled shoes I wear at work with a boot cover we had made of vinyl over it. The heat destroyed them over time though.
The earrings I made out of the sculping foam, used the fishing line thread to make them look like they floated off the top piece, which was a flattened button of foam over a stud earring that broke. (yay for recycling)

The whip was a jump rope that I rolled paper crepe around and hot glued. (weapons are banned from the con I went to)

Make up was from Sophia, since my skin is so pale only one person had something in my shade; "Porcelain".
Learned from a con expert's website that makeup should always be an option even if the character doesn't wear any. It will even out the skin tone, protect you from the sun to a degree, and make sure your face doesn't turn out green when someone snaps your picture, as lighting can do a lot to our skin.

The wig was a human hair wig I got off a site that was liquidating their stock. It was a dark auburn so it took 8 hours for me to get the coloring right.
I washed the wig, styled and cut it, making sure the foam head I was using was going by MY measurements, not the foam heads' (the foam head is smaller, so my eye is where it's nose was)
I used spray cans and they were a big waste of money. I had to wash the wig and style all over again. I found this temporary hair coloring stuff in a small glass tube at the year round halloween store near here and that stuff was amazing. I used white as a base and applied it with a toothbrush, making sure I got the wig in sections from the core to the outside so as I moved no red would ever show. I applied the silver on top of the white after it dried.
(In the game franziska has a certain shade of blue for hair, I was going with the official art of her which is silver, classier, and much easier to get right without assistance)
I bought a new wig from a seller on Ebay called COGMARC who is actually selling the high quality fibers, only problem is they don't do requests. I got a long silky straight one in a dull silver. I plan on cutting it, making wefts out of the extra hair and sewing it into the wig to make it fuller.
(Learned everything about wig selection and styling from Katie Bair's wig tutorial.

My first Otakon really was a crappy expirience. My second was much different because a lot more planning was involved. A lot more research, and gave myself more time to work on things.
You learn from your mistakes.
This year I am tweaking the outfit, making it more comfortable and durable.
Always Always Always consider the weather before making your costume!!!
Rip out lining, fake layers by sewing sleeves to vests, use breathable material and make sure you have lots and lots of water available when out in the heat at a con. Even bringing a paper or "silk" umbrella can make the difference when being scorched in line.

I did research off an on for months so you have a condensed version of my notes.

fiarra 03-11-2009 03:47 AM

... That loong post only made me realize that all my future projects involve a ton of wig-work and prop-making.. and now I am sad. xDD
