Nedra-- what's your cosplay?

Fiarra-- heh, must be. I'm not much of a night owl, depends how early I have to get up in the morning. Since I didn;t have to work today I was up until midnight, but I was practically falling asleep.

Hello Sagitar

fiarra 06-02-2009 02:40 AM

*fluffs Sagitar* :) Yup I made the whole thing myself. (well except for the shoes xD)

Cloudwalker 06-02-2009 03:10 AM

Ack! shoes! thanks for reminding me, I completely forgot. Since I made it as a halloween costume I didn't bother with the shoes. But I'm not going to wear that to a con with sneakers, that wont look right. Dang, now I have to figure out how to make that footwear.

xNedra_the_Red_Dragonx 06-02-2009 04:10 AM

@Cloud: I'm planning to go as Captain Izuru since my friend is going to be Arrancar Gin and then she will be Aizen while I'm Gin.

Cloudwalker 06-02-2009 04:59 PM

That's sounds cool. It's always better when you have more than one person dressing up. Don't forget to send us pics when you 2 finish them.

Is this for the Ichigo cosplay? Does he wear straw sandals? That should be fairly easy to get.

For all straw sandal wearers. Slip some flat Dr. Scholls in those things, the straw, even with socks will ruin your feet!. It's easy to cut them down so people wouldn't see them under the foot.

If it is another type of shoe, show a pic and maybe I can walk you through, or show you some tutorials. -nod-
I had to make shoes in school for Basic Design. If helped out when I needed to make Rin's shoes. (from Naruto)

Cloudwalker 06-02-2009 07:54 PM

Thanks Anyakan. Yeah it's for the Ichigo cosplay.
I don't know about straw sandles being easy to get, I've never even seen something close to them around here.
So I'll probably have to make them, and the problem is 1. how to make them and what materials and 2. how to make them look right while not being uncomfortable.
Would love any suggestions/help. ^_^

Anyakan 06-03-2009 02:21 AM

(I PMed you with the link to the store.)
If you had those, just cut the dr. scholls and put them on the sandal where others cant see it, OR cut them and sew them inside of your tabi socks. Cutting the soles for the split toe also may save you some discomfort.

I know my friends who went at characters from bleach did not line the shoes and thought the socks would save them. They're feet were all torn up by the end of the second day. So I stress even buying a cheap shoe liner.

#2 cosplay rule in my book: Shoes must be comfortable! XD

Cloudwalker 06-03-2009 03:22 AM

What's the #1 cosplay rule in your book?

Read PM for everything else I said.

To be honest, my friend and I don't make the cosplays, we buy them. Why? Because we are lazy and too lame to try and make them. I can show you pics when my anime convention comes around. :3

Anyakan 06-05-2009 08:30 AM

Alright, I pondered a bit on the shoe issue. Anya's Crazy shoe idea number 1:

1. Getting the goods: Ever think of buying a cheap pair of thin soled flip flops, cutting the thong and the straps so its just the sole. (unless you know where to find them alone)
*You could just buy parachute cord, hemp, or a thick twine (hardware/crafts store, internet) to make it look like a straw sandal.

2. Prepping the heel: Get a piece of Bristol board or cardboard with an inch width and about the length of the sole; Fold it in half.
Measure your heel to the top of the ankle. Take that measurement and fold again that much farther than the folded edge. (It should make an L shape with the loop being the shorter part.)
The piece should act to cover the back of your heel for reinforcement when you walk, it will also hold your straps together later on.

Glue the long part of the L shape to the sole of the shoe, making the loop stand up behind your heel. (It being so long will prevent the loop in the back from popping off with your first step)

3. Making plastic soles stealthy: Wrap the twine around the sole covering it in one direction and using hot glue or whatever you think is strongest to reinforce it. Then go over it again with another layer, possibly going in a different direction to make them crossing and hiding any imperfection/bump/gap. When you get to the back piece, wrap tightly at the base and about a half inch from the top loop the twine through the loop and cover the paper all of the way around. It should look like an eyelet of a sewing needle from the side.

4. Making Toe floss: You can loop a strand through a couple of the between the toe area and wrap it around your ankle to measure (leave enough to adjust o.o; ) I would loop a couple for better durability actually. It should go through the loop you made in the back so it goes around the ankle and in between the toes. Make a knot that will rest right above the toes as you wear it. Try walking a little and tweaking the measurements until its more comfortable and feels secure, then cut off the loose ends. Worst thing would be to accidentally cut first and then realize it wasn't enough.

A less crazy idea is to check and see if you can follow this tutorial for a no sew Japanese Zori sandal. In your case I would use hemp or something similar, not the cloth they used. Also I would glue the flip flop sole to the bottom and wrap the material you use along the edges to hide it, since without it the sandal has no traction and can lead to a fall.

Let me know your thoughts/ideas/if you have something better.

Haha, I should find that photo of my cosplay to show you guys.

Hmm ...

Cloudwalker 06-05-2009 08:17 PM

Anyakan--That sounds great :D thanks. Either you are very good at imaging how to make this or you did a run through. But thank you for takign the time to figure this out for me. I have everything I need except the thin bottomed flip flops to cut off. I'll probably check the thrift store for something. Again thanks ^_^

Irken-- what was your cosplay?

IRK3N 06-06-2009 02:57 AM

@ Cloud ~ I cosplay jrock. xD I was maya [vocalist] from LM.C, my outfit being from their video "LIAR LIAR."

Cloudwalker 06-07-2009 12:55 AM

I googled that up. Of course I couldn't understand any of it. The outfit while on stage or sitting in that room? I'm assuming the one while in the room, it was more interesting.

I like your avi by the way.

You cosplay Jrock? That's freaking awesome. :3

Anyakan 06-09-2009 04:15 AM

@cloudwalker: I would like to have done a run through but alas I can only describe what I imagine, then I try to think of how it would fall apart, and start from the begining to see what I could do to make a stronger design. -_- I am a perfectionist. It would be nice if it all worked out perfect, but it will most likely need tweaking. Unforeseen forces such as gravity, weather, and rabid fan-girl attacks might compromise the poor sandal's durability. I am sure if you made them and took them for a test run a few times you will figure it out.

Sagitar 06-09-2009 02:59 PM

it seems like I can make it to the next con! it's 10th of next month ^3^

but I don't have a cosplay ready :( no money to buy wigs,
and my hair is now blonde so.. D: time for some character hunting.
or else I'm just going scifi. it's both scifi and anime convention actually.

Cloudwalker 06-09-2009 07:57 PM

Anyakan-- either way you're very good :D I usually have to get stuff together in one spot to figure out how they might go together. I'm not good at imagining a finished piece, I start putting something together and tweak it as I go and end up with something looking completely different than what I first thought it would be. Haven't had time to put it together yet. I was too busy trying to find another job, I got called for one to start tomorrow, but it's another temp job :( But at least it's a job :)

Anyakan 06-10-2009 01:02 AM

@cloudwalker: Oh, I am the one who can make blueprints (or character designs) but has no ambition to create. I guess we all even ourselves out in our own ways. Good job hunting! I wouldn't mind having another temp job to overlap my 5 hours a week minimum wage crap job.(currently corporate is being very stingy for no reason, the economy isn't effecting them as badly) -_-
Extra job= More cosplay (after bills o.o;; ) XD

Sagitar 06-14-2009 10:15 AM

I've decided to cosplay as Rikku from Final Fantasy X-2, the gamble outfit.. :3

I'm almost done with the outfit, just some little things left to do..

Cloudwalker 06-14-2009 04:00 PM

I think all the FF outfits are cool. I don't know what that character looks like, and for some reason my internet wont let me do any searches. But good luck finishing it, and don't forget I want' to see XD

Sagitar 06-16-2009 08:03 PM

I've decided to do
both Rikkus thief outfit from Final Fantasy X-2 and the 'Lady Luck'-outfit ^^

http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...FX-2-Rikku.jpg
^in this pic the Thief-outfit is the most visible one on the right corner,
and the Lady luck-outfit is above it in a smaller size.
