Kamikira: If I knew more about the series; I'd ask if I could possibly cosplay him... Buttt~ I haven't seen it and I also would have a pain in the ass trying to find his pretty boa I think. XD

And yes SacAnime was awful this past summer. -_- they had the artis alley in the fucking hallway. Ugh.

IRK3N: I used to be an East-coaster but I've recently moved out here. My family is all from Philadelphia, I used to live there when I was very little and visited quite often. I always wanted to go to Otakon though but yeah never had the chance to. X3 Baltimore can be quite hot during the summer so... I don't know what sort of cosplay I'd want to do for Otakon it washot enough at AZ and it was only in May.

Anyway I'm going to head off now; see yous guys later. ^^

Ari'iela 11-15-2009 01:42 AM

Hiya! I'm a cosplayer myself and glad to see that there is a thread dedicated to them! :) I was curious though, as seeing as I am not sure really on what to make the cosplay that I want to do out of. I have a few ideas but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help at all? It would be great.

Also does anyone know where any cons in NY are. I am new to the area. (Not the city, central part of the state.) And really would like to know if there are any that anyone can think of. I wont post about what the outfit is unless someone says they will help. Will save a post from being ZOMG LONG! XD

whitebeast 11-15-2009 03:15 AM

@Foxberry

GO AS HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE. XD

Soo cute. I love how he gets all flustered around Chibitalia

@KamiKira

I AGREE TOTALLY ON THE MAKE UP.

120%!!!

I was sooo amazed at how it can bring out how your character looks like.

When my sister -she does my make up- did my face for Misa, I was like... Man, this is so not me on any other given day. XD If I had contacts -though I might try them for my latter cosplays- it might have sealed the deal.

Too bad my cosplay then was SO incomplete. D: I have to redeem that Misa cosplay!

But what I like about cosplay is that...

There are some people who really have a way of getting around their bodily limits and manage to become so versatile with roles.

@[email protected] I've seen my friend transform from a sexy oiran-like character to a tough chick and suddenly... A no expression type crossplayer.

I'm sure you've seen those types too. D:

They inspire me to be more creative and find ways to overcome things that we MIGHT find troublesome like height, facial structure and even bodily structures like breast mass (or lack thereof) etc.

@[email protected] We can do it if we really wanted to right?

mwahhaha 11-15-2009 04:24 AM

Wah!!! I've missed pages!!!
Hey all, I was wondering, what cosplays do you WANT to do, but wouldn't do without a group or a partner?
Like I wouldn't cosplay as Rock Lee (in real life) without a Mighty Guy, and then, of course I'd go as bandaged Lee and get free rides from my Mighty Guy whenever I got tired. XD
I also wouldn't go as anyone from Higurashi without like, the whole group. . . dunno why for that one, though.
How about you guys?
@IRK3N: LOL, nice man thong.

Esmereina 11-15-2009 05:03 AM

My latest cosplay will be Ukraine from Hetalia... ^_^ I am still gathering materials for her... :)

whitebeast 11-15-2009 06:32 AM

I'm not quite sure... Let's see. XD

I think the characters that are quiet and silent need to have partners.

Most of them really can't seem to shine unless they have a pest/partner with them.

There are some exceptions though like Heero Yuy and Lelouch Lamperouge.

The ones who ALWAYS come in pairs would be weird without their counterparts.

Some people find it a little strange to be either Sebastian or Ciel without the other for instance.

Groups wise? I think Sentai groups would be odd if you were just on your own but depends, you can still shine on your own then good for you. xD

OH WAIT. I MISREAD THE POST. I THOUGHT YOU WERE ASKING IF CHOICES THAT FELL ON THAT CATEGORY LOLOLOLOL.

Personally? I really don't count on groups or partners to cosplay.

I prefer working on my own. o.o;

lolitadanday 11-15-2009 06:39 AM

may be a bit late but I'm new. I've been cosplaying for four years and if you'd like to see some of them I'd be happy to show you. I have a majority of them on cosplay lab under the name J H Brenner
feel free to Pm if you'd like to meet up at Otakon 2010

mwahhaha 11-15-2009 06:44 AM

@whitebeast: it's cool to do it by yourself, too. **nods** together can be rad, too, though. I've never done a group or pair thing yet, but I hope to soon. I saw all of the Sailor Scouts last year XD that was fun to see. took me back to like. . . 3rd grade? LOL.
lolitadanday speaking of otakon 2010 (which I WANT to go to) made me wonder, "how many otacon cosplays are at otakon? Hmmmmmm. surely not enough."

YamiSora 11-15-2009 06:57 AM

YAY! more people are coming in to talk! WOOT! XDD
anyways, I decided when I go back home from college over the winter break, I'm gonna be working on my Simon from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann........I'm still deciding on which version of him to do though......I might go with younger version. XP

KamiKira 11-15-2009 07:06 AM

In general, I like doing solo cosplays. But it's a lot of fun to do it with people. I don't know, it was sad being Momo Adachi without Sae. My friend had the cosplay, but just didn't wear it (which was kind of a waste). But when you're in a group, you are more likely to be recognized and more likely to be photographed. It's odd how that works. So I love that I get to do this next one with a huge group of males. It's insane! I'm shocked that guys are joining a reverse harem one... and it's all because Alice and Wonderland now has weapons in it XD;;

@Fox: Heart no Kuni no Alice is a Otome Game and a Manga, the OAV is delayed. My friend and I translate and scanalate the series. It's really amazing! It'll be licensed in February by tokyopop
@Whitebeast: Contacts are amazing. And I'm glad you're on the same page as me with those opinions. I'm playing with more make-up stuff for Vivaldi tonight. XD;; I kinda want to make my FB page it... to bad I don't have the purple contacts yet DX The ones I bought a month ago on Pretty & Cute were sold out and so they refunded me TwT But they were the perfect ones!!
@Yami: Go with Younger Simon... although I don't know what you look like. I would just go with the younger one XD;;

AND OMG MY COSTS...

For the Vivaldi Cosplay (because making it is far too difficult): $200 (this includes shipping and handling)
Drill curl Wig: $40+S&H from my friend in Japan
Contacts: (The ones I want) $25 +S&H
Fanime Pre-Reg: $50 or $55 depending if I buy it this week or not
... I'm going to have to save up my tip for the next 3 weeks to get around $240

mwahhaha 11-15-2009 07:14 AM

@YamiSora: a younger simon is cool, but you wouldn't get to wear those rad sunglasses. :/ oh, i'm forgetting his goggles. goggles pwn sunglasses, nevermind. :)
@KamiKira: yeah, I can see how a momo w/o sae would be a lil lonely. aw a reverse harem sounds like fun :3, but i'm not sure what anime you're talking about that's alice in wonderland w/ weapons. that sounds interesting.

whitebeast 11-15-2009 07:16 AM

The shop with beautiful tafetta cloth...ran out.

I have no idea what to use for my Mdm. Red cosplay. T_T

I don't like...satin. It's too shiny. Our event's outdoor and I don't exactly have plans to shine like a mirror under the sun.

._. I need to find something more matte!

HRE is in the works hopefully very soon. X3

mwahhaha 11-15-2009 07:49 AM

@whitebeast: :( that's too bad. Hmmm...it would be weird to have the satin inside out wouldn't it? what about regular cotton? not as cool as the tafetta (though I don't know what that is), but perhaps doable?

whitebeast 11-15-2009 08:07 AM

Cotton...is more expensive than tafetta here. T_T

I found some nice godly cotton but... SO EXPENSIVE.

D: I might ask my friends who'll be going downtown/less expensive places to look for me.

Then again THEY ARE MY GROUP MATES IN THIS.

I'm going for tafetta OR cotton. So I'll be a wee bit historically accurate.

T_T

@Fox

GO FOX! <3

-cheers on-

KamiKira 11-15-2009 08:36 AM

*stabs Mene* It's backing up ate my post. Then I went and played with make-up for my character XD I actually found the coloring I want to do, although I think I might use the burgandy red over the light pink XDDDD It actually looks cool! Or nice rather. I need powder though. But my face is different than my arms (which were always darker DX) I wonder if I should toss some make-up on them as well... probably not.

@white: DX Good luck! My friend didthe same when we had to make her outer kimono. She got very specific and we luckily found the color and the fabric cheap. It was pretty darn close to what she really needed.

whitebeast 11-15-2009 08:53 AM

Thing is... I won't be personally be there.

@[email protected] -is quite anal about those things-

D: I hope they...actually find it. Then again they KNOW what tafetta is anyway.

>.<;; On other things such as picking wigs and colors, I don't really trust them.

They trust me though.

-flails-

GAH. THIS IS MY COSPLAY OF THE YEAR. I WANT TO MAKE IT GOOD. DX

YamiSora 11-15-2009 10:06 AM

@mwahhaha: LMAO true, but I decided to go with Simon's last costume

This one

..............man, is THATS gonna take me awhile! >.< oh well, it'll be worth it! XDD
and I'll probably make a Boota too! TEE HEE!

whitebeast 11-15-2009 10:08 AM

Do you already have a budget to work with?

KamiKira 11-15-2009 11:21 AM

That'll look amazing, Yami! I totally want to see pictures when you've finished. My skills at sewing are pretty minimal, so I'm quite envious.

whitebeast 11-15-2009 11:24 AM

Same. xD Even if I wanted to learn, I can't since they have a thing against...needles here.

They think it's TOO dangerous since a bratty five year old likes to touch my things.

Oh the shiny I suppose. @[email protected]

KamiKira 11-15-2009 11:48 AM

LOL! Wow... My mom just refuses to teach me properly. She speaks in a mix of thai and english and thinks I should take it super slow. But whenever she tries to teach me, she only lets me observe. And it's just too annoying to deal with DX

I also have the habit of breaking the machine. I can do all of the pattern stuff, not the actual sewing... I'm bad luck.

whitebeast 11-15-2009 11:50 AM

I'd like to try at it since I sorta have experience with patterns with plushies but heck you and I both know that's a totally different monster. XD

Or buy patterns! O_O; I've tried hand sewing for dolls which...hasn't moved much.

So yeah. -_-

But at least you get taught...though not the way you'd like to.

Do you ask questions?

._. I can't sew. I can't even make props!

CHEMICALS. LITTLE KID.

Doooon't mix.

>_>

KamiKira 11-15-2009 12:00 PM

I have lots of troubles with sewing! I can hand sew...
White, I think you and I are very similar lol XD
Just in general. HAHAHA! Except I have no little kids to be wary of. Dx

And Being taught? She complains about me not helping her or me getting in her way. It's really difficult. That's why I can't ask her to make my Vivaldi Cosplay.

My friend makes props. He's sooo amazing. He designed a sword that he's going to make for our group. I'm like... WOW! He made my friend's Rin Kagamine Vocaloid headphones and actually made them into useable headphones. He's really handy.

whitebeast 11-15-2009 12:03 PM

; w ; I want to learn how to do this and that with my hands props wise! But I can't. I don't have the space for it either.

Since I can't, I have to keep commissioning my BF to do things for me.

._. In return, I feed him whenever I cook or bake something.

He's not complaining though. XD
